Give the 2 year old a fish & you have fed him for today. Teach him how to fish & you have fed him for life.
Why buy him a computer. Take him to Frys or something. Let him pick out the parts & make his own computer. Once he is done, point him to one of the Linux sources - he can build his binaries & install it.
Are you sure about this? I saw quite a few movies where people get into to Military computers typing "Connect to Military Computer" & then guessing the right password. These were very smart people, but they did get into those databases and all.
Nobody lined Obama's pockets except me and thirty million of my fellow Americans, 25 bucks at a time.
That's rubbish. Obama's campaign always said 90% of Obama's donors are small donors. They never said 90% of Obama's money came from small donors. There is a subtle distinction. Check the actual figures - around 50% of Obama's money came from big donors just like every other politician.
Am I misunderstanding something? Does Apple pays the content owners just 9 cents out of the 99 cents it charges for a song? i.e. Does Apple get to keep 90% of the selling price?
Do brick & mortar stores also operate on a similiar basis. i.e. if I pay 15$ for a CD, does the shop just give $1.50 to the content owners?
If you are going to print 4 by 6, I doubt if you could see the difference between a 2 MP & a 10 MP camera. If you are going to print 5 by 7, there would be little diff between a 3 or 4 MP & a 10 MP camera.
So what size are you printing that you need a 10 MP camera?
Are you printing something to cover the side of your house?
Samba isn't an Active Directory alternative.
Use front slashes in C/C++ programs. They work fine.
For eg.
FILE * fp = fopen("c:/mydir/a.txt","r");
will work fine on windows if you have c:\mydir\a.txt
I haven't used Subversion.
I have used Perforce & CVS.
Perforce beats the pants off CVS - no competition at all.
What are these Federal Reserve Notes you are talking about?
Where do I get them & can I pay for these Federal Reserve Notes
using my Credit Card?
CAN-SPAM Act Turns 5 Today -- What Went Wrong?
Maybe if they had named it CAN'T SPAM, it may have turned out better.

But the gaming jock is never going to sleep with the prom queen.
The difference between closed source & open source in this case is that if it were a closed
source app, the Entry Barrier would be higher.
This in my opinion is one of the most important things to think about when deciding
to go open source on something you expect to make money on.

Maybe we should have a new section for "Useful Stupid Tricks" on Slashdot.

I flew Continental recently & they also had Linux in their inflight entertainment system.
What exactly was underhanded here?
How do these people get funding?
Are you making up the 1% & 4% numbers?
The average rate of returns for consumer electronics in the USA is 15-20%.
Then assuming 20% return rates for Windows netbooks, it will translate
to 80% return rate for Linux netbooks.
