    Aye, but we're using "!=" as "is not equal to", which is a C/C++/Java/C# idiom. The languages that use "=" as both assignment and the equality test generally use "<>" as the "is not equal to" operator.

    "=" is an assignment; "==" is pronounced "is equal to". Say it! Say it and mean it!

    The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.
    But your physical location, your comings and goings, that's not a "person" or a "thing" to be "seized", so no worries, right? And the fact that the government asked for this information, and whether it was granted or denied, well, you don't really need to know that, do you?

    • Young, altruistic, energetic, and so inexperienced and incompetent they don't know how to file a motion, let alone properly get evidence examined.
    • Older guys, there for a paycheck, who do as little as possible, even choosing unnecessary plea bargains just so they have less paperwork to do.
    Sounds like a lot of programmers (and project managers) I know, too.

    I liked the book better. I'm still curious if the choice of the name "Colossus" was a coincedence, or a nod to the truth. Bletchley Park was only revealed in the 70's, but the book was published in 1966. But the author, D.F. Jones, was a WWII naval commander...
