In Hindi the alphabets you read is what it sounds like, if you have something new that you think can't be spoken in hindi, you can join words together. :)

Its interesting to see the the insance amount of MS bashing that goes on her everytime a MS related article is posted.

Just to clear the air b4 someone calls me a MS agent, I'm a HW/SW developer that works for a bioTech comany and I do all my development work on *nix.
And no I'm not trolling, I'm just trying to state some facts.

I hear a lot of crying about IE being sucky etc etc. Fine, there are a lot of holes in it that are discovered routinely. But have you guys stopped to think that most of these holes are discovered because the browser is very popular. FireFox is becoming popular and it is starting to get attacked too (I've started to get pop ups in FireFox). But this concept applies to anything, if you live in a house facing a busy street, i.e. main road, your house will be more susceptible to crime, but when you move the same house to a quiet street, the house becomes less susceptible to crime.

About the whining that it comes packaged with windows, I say why not, when you buy a car, wouldn't you like it to come with free goodies instead of you having to pay extra for everything from floor mats to a CD player?
MS Windows also comes packaged with MS Media player, but why are there still so many users of WinAmp? I've been using Winamp for the past 7 yrs. The same thing applies to other pieces of software that come prePackaged with windows and yet has ppl using other solutions. The fact of the matter is if someone doesn't like a product and finds a better one they will go and get it. This even applies to cars, if ppl don't like what they have they buy stuff like CD decks, speakers etc.. The same applies to IE.

Actually there are a couple of uses. When I was in class in school, taking notes after notes, it would be nice to be able to take these notes down in digital format and not having to carry a big heavy binder. But wait, I can also search through my notes for stuff now. I don't have to worry about pages falling apart or carrying a binder for each class. Suppose im on the skyTrain or bus or sitting on my bead studying, I can go through my notes with relative ease... actually search through the stuff etc.. Thats just one instance. There are so many more... Now I just wish I had a tablet PC when I was in uni... btw,I use handwriting recognition software on my PocketPC and it works just great.

2.Suppose I'd like to take the program I wrote in .NET and sell it commercially, do I have to pay any royalty fee?

    3. What if the above 2 questions are applied to Java?

I'm not sure if this might be because of the Patriot Act, but I do know that this is profiling because of 9/11. I used to buy stuff from the states because its cheaper than Canada. When I go to the states, to pick up electronic gadgets (e.g. mp3 player) I get harassed by the US border customs every time I enter. They ask me the same questions over and over again, what is your reason for coming (normal question), where do you work, what is your occupation, when did you buy this car, do you own this car, how long have you owned this car, have you ever been denied entry into the US. Can you turn your car off, give me the keys and open your trunk. This might sound something routine, but my caucasian co-workers don't get bothered at all. The serbian girl who works with me told me that she this has never happened to her, and she has a serbain accent and all. My other colored friends have all told me that they get harassed as well. Well guess what, now I don't buy stuff from the States anymore. A number of us avoid a stop over at the States while travelling by plane. This dumb attitude by the US, doesn't help their already crappy image in Canada.

Here in BC, Canada we pay

    16-29% Federal Tax

    6-14% Provincial Tax

    14% Sales Tax

    For gas,

a portion of the price includes various taxes, including road improvement+ public transit support tax.. and then on top of that u pay your sales tax on the gas.

To make matters worse, previously barely any of the tax money collected from gas was returned to the provincial gov for use on transit or roads.

Then you have your property tax (which is riddled with taxes for various services, some who don't even get the money that they are supposed to get) +utility tax etc..

Add a 14% sales tax to everything you buy and u start to realize that crap is really expensive..

Keep in mind the Provincial and Federal Gov have been reporting a lot of surplus. But still no real tax reduction.

Where does all this money go? Most of it goes to Quebec, our French Speaking province so that they will stay with Canada. Then Ontario and all the other eastern provinces. And a huge amount gets involved in government scandals.

The only good thing from all of this is that we have medicare in Canada and our gov said no to the Iraq war and US Missile Prgm.

Call it what you want, the TDA is just another PDA. The marketing ppl just pulled got carried away as usual. This TDA as some nice features and good design. From checking out their website, there are a couple of things I like about it. Good form factor good battery life good hardware architecture customizable shells (can anyone say HandSpring Treo?) However, things I use on my PDA a lot is taking notes a obsecure places. Its faster for me to write stuff down, than it is to touch type on the screen, it would be nice if they supported it. Also, I would like to see more RAM on a product like that. And something I definetly use all the time is blueTooth. I think this product has potential, but they need to get a competitive price and better features. My Dell Axim x50v has a lot more features, and is a lot cheaper. The next PDA I would buy would be something that is as big as my Dell Axix, has a Phone, camera, MP3 player, and at least a 20 or 30 Gig HDD..

I think what seperated the iPOD from most competitors is that they had superior marketing and good form factor for their product.

Sony might be expensive, but the iPOD's are't that cheap either. The main reason I don't buy sony products is mainly because its over priced and they force you to use their expensive memory sticks..

I recently bought a Neuros, it has a lot more functionality that an iPOD and is way cheaper..

I think I paid about $229 for mine and it came with a:

    30 Gig HD

    FM Radio

    FM Transmitter

    long lasting rechargeable battery

    and a car charger,

and the best thing is that the firmWare is open source.

The form factor sucks cause it looks like a tank compared to the slick iPOD.

the current market is not what is better, its all about what is marketed better... Its pretty interesting that HD MP3 players have existed for some time now, but with Apples marketing, it seems like the newest thing since sliced bread.. :p

I'm from Vancouver, Canada and I find it hard to understand ppl from the South US, australia, and the UK. Here in Canada, when I call up a gov agency, I get some french person speaking english and its pretty hard to understand them too. Not because they don't know english, its because their accent. What I'm even more suprised about is /.'ers who need to call tech support. Can't fix ur own comp eh?

Been out of HS for about 6 yrs now but here are some thoughts... who is your target audience? If its the usual geeks, then sponsoring a robotics competition would be nice. However, most HS students don't know much about programming embedded systems, motor controls etc. The best thing I can think of is maybe look at what they are actually learning and see how we can use that to make cool stuff that they can replicate easily. This would work well for physics and chemistry projects. Most physics and chemistry labs are just plain boring.. This could favour the geeks and the hardCore wannaBe's too. Having a contest to win a prize just encourages the smart ppl and the rest won't try cause they know they won't stand a chance. Having a system where everyone gets something for producing a finished product works much better. Kind of like IT conferences where a lot of ppl attend when they know they'll get free stuff. Also, having a system that encourages students to think and come up with ideas or new ways of doing things would be good. Maybe try to take an old technology/concept and improve on it? Good luck :)
