i just would think they would make it in a way that is anti-competitive
would they ever digitally sign or whitelist, say open office? I am very confident the answer is NO. If they make such a list and add open office to the list, enterprise might start switching to open office. If they refuses, it makes them anti-competitive and totally make the list useless.
i dont mean popup is useful at all but as long as someone pays them for it, it is indirectly benefiting us. What I meant is to have such adblock feature as and extension (I am using adblock myself too) rather than built in. If it is so easy to add sites to allowed sites, it shouldn't be hard to install an extra extension either. another benefit of having it as extension is when the user don't want it, s/he doesn't need to install the extension. This also keep firefox light weight (bloat software are ones that have loads of useless functions. being able to remove unwanted functions is a plus)
I do like this idea but also start to worry that it might kill off some of the service we get. If one doesn't like to have pop up, one can install extensions for it but having this built-in would render some of the websites "criminal like". I do like this as an extension but not quite being built-in
one possibility is that he does not know how to use a Mac or Linux thus won't be able to setup/install the program as well as teach his mom to use the program
I tried it a while ago but I find it a hassel to find an FTP for some reason when I hope not to share my bookmark. Even though, online bookmark are more interesting to me in the sense that when I went to my friend's house, I don't need to install firefox, install bookmark sync to access my bookmark. I prefer to just type it into the browser and bring me there.
just wanted to point out that it is a crime in the us doesn't mean it also is a crime elsewhere. Don't just think everything in the law is right either since some of them are pushed by parties and are not necessary
Yes, Firefox and all other Mozilla-based products are more secure. Why? Here is a list of the most important reasons:
* It is not integrated with Windows, which helps prevent viruses and hackers from causing damage if they somehow manage to compromise Firefox.
* There is no support for VBScript and ActiveX, two technologies which are the reasons for many IE security holes.
* No spyware/adware software can automatically install in Firefox just by visiting a web site.
* Firefox doesn't use Microsoft's Java VM, which has a history of more flaws than other Java VMs.
* You have complete control over cookies.
linux have too many variant (spelling?) and one can't scale it up correctly with such a lot of different distro doing different things. That is why you should stick to ONE distro. Linux do have scalability problem but say, redhat, shouldn't if all the computers/servers are in the same distro. I do think there will be the same issue if there are both solaris 10 and windows in the same system?
I would say, its free from a company with such a bad record at treating their customers and or their decision making criteria only have profit, profit and 5) PROFIT, would make this news into OldNewsIsSoExciting.jpg
I don't see the monitor flicks or what but I can hear whether monitor is switched on or not (and the same applies to tv). The annoys me most when I start to use ADSL (few years back) and chatting on the same line through the phone since the filter doesn't take out the whole spectrum of mine. My flatmates doesn't have any problem with it though so i think it is just me.
Essentially I think noticing the monitor flickers and hearing the noise from tv is more or less from the same reason, human are different from each other. I would guess this is something born to be but not too sure if it is trainable. I think you just happen to take light at some specific frequencies which makes you able to notice the flicks.
there actually was a post in/. a while ago saying ??AA asking itune to increase their price since they "think" it is too low so yes, I think they want the download price to be the same as the cd price.
well, i actually think first to file is a better system.
imagina Joe got an invention a week before microsoft. however, microsoft went to patent it and saw joe's patent. Law suit begins and i think it would be very likely a game of deeper pocket wins.
as some of your replies pointed out, money is not a concern for MS but it is for SMB. I wonder what it would be like if you can patent for something for free or for a fee. The length of the patent to become valid depend on the fee you pay, which is from 10 years (free) to 20 years maximum
I think someone pointed out in previous articles that all they need is to send a letter to the company saying they infringe on one of their patent if it were SMB. Since no SMB could fight against their lawyer army without going off business
in that case, alot of the research would come to a halt
i don't mind having patents but patenting software (which essentially is mathematics) just doesn't make sense. if it were patenting say, drugs, on portions of chemical, it would have been better
