If you have a win32 server and want to put a WAMP (Windows/Apache/MySQL/PHP) stack for your website, Apache2 is the only choice. Apache 1 isn't recommended for win32 servers...
so far Apache2 is working perfectly. And I really like the new syntax for add-on modules.

*HOWEVER*, If we want to take things commercial grade, I'd gladly ask the Apache and PHP guys to fix their "nobody" user problem, and start PHP with separate accounts. It's hideous for security having a user with access to all the subdirectories. Our website in a shared host got defaced a month ago because of this "tiny detail"
>Oops, my network connection died. But still... that kind of unintelligible dialog doesn't do anything to make me trust the installer. Maybe this is a trojaned copy of Firefox after all?
This is a work of art. I'm sure these guys tampered the Firefox intall SO BAD (unplugging the network at critical moments, etc...) so that they achieved their desired results.
In other words, they're portraying the Firefox WORST CASE SCENARIO.
Now. Would you like us to portray the IE6 worst case scenario?

Come on guys, any pro-Microsoft people around so we can really have fun? I promise I won't bite O:)
If only they had spent some of that money on improving the security of their users by, say, purchasing a VeriSign code signing certificate.
So the MD5 and SHA1 hashes are just decorative or what?
Obviously this guy doesn't comprehend the concept of open source. He thinks we need to buy something for it to be good. Be it an Operating System, a web browser, or a digital certificate.
Just think what Ms. Ellsworth could have achieved with a proper education.
Maybe not as much... she might have ended up as the employee of some big computer company designing games or the like.
Maybe it was the *lack* of education that put her in the difficult situations that made her give the best from herself. It was her efforts to go against the tides that made her outstand from the average geeks like us. Maybe that was the pressure needed to turn her into a full-fledged diamond.
I wish i had her courage to go against the tides and established principles. *Sighs*
It was founded on the idea that one day video games could be considered an art form. Ironic. Electronic "Arts"... I still remember playing "Project Firestart" from EA. It was the coolest survival horror game that _EVER_ existed for the C64.
What happened to you, EA? How did you turn into one of those slimy monsters portrayed in your games?
Goodbye, EA. Sad to see an old friend die, but seeing him lose his heart to become an evil follower of some kind of demon ($$$), it's 1000 times worse. I'd like to cry for you, but you don't even deserve that.
OK who was the moron who modded this offtopic? It's a COMPLETELY valid point. Meaning that EA is like this hungry corporate monster who wants to swallow the small fish.
Remember the tragedy of Yahoo buying geocities now known as "geoshitties" by its former users?
UBIsoft is an excellent small software company. When I play Prince of Persia: Sands of Time, I remember good ol' times of Epyx. New, original games, maybe with some flaws.
And then comes the walmart-mindset megacompany and wants to ruin it.
How about this... integrate the bittorrent protocol into web browswers, so websites can distribute their content in p2p with just a tag. Like, heavy images for example.

Mod me troll if you want (uh but flamebait preferred:) ), but i'm getting tired of Linux-only releases in a cross-platform world.
And considering that the majority of music users use, well, WINDOWS... (my dad always bought windows music products. I think Rosengarden is missing a huge potential market: Windows users.
I tried freeware Windows MIDI sequencers a couple of years ago, all sucked. So I'd gladly appreciate if the Rosengarden devs made their software cross-platform, now that it's STILL IN EARLY development. This is when major structural changes can be done with nobody noticing.
And finally... for those of you who want to flame me with "this is NOT a Windows thread", I respond: If I don't come in the Linux zone and say that window users needs cross-platform versions of already existing linux apps, then who's going to tell them?
As sacreligious as it is, I think Firefox should have a plugin that allows Active X to run, but set-up so that only certain URLs as provided by the user allow this.
`` Being fair, they also present Microsoft's solution to security problems: 'Microsoft does have one suggestion for those who cannot use the latest patches in Service Pack 2: buy a new personal computer'" ''
That was being unfair. Being fair, according to TFA, Microsoft's solution to the security problems is to upgrade to the latest windows OS, i.e. XP. Not buy a new comp.
DOH! The point of upgrading to a new comp was to BE ABLE to run the latest version of XP.
Anyway, this is the problem of XP. It comes bundled with lots of useless software: Outlook express, IE6, Netmeeting (WTF? I tried to erase the netmeeting directory the other day, i had to reinstall windows or insert the CD in order to restore the system config - and if that doesn't come bundled with windows, maybe it was the MSN thingy, but why is it now part of the OS???), DirectX 8.0 or whatever, which clutters your C: drive. You can't even tell it where to put "Program Files" or the virtual memory files on installation. It always does on C: drive.
in other words, winxp is a complete load of "FAT"ware. I guess *THIS* is the reason why the user needs to upgrade his PC in order to run the latest version of XP with SP2 etc etc.
Unfortu[n]ately, you would still have to download the message in order to determine if it was an advertisement or not.
Not necessarily! The POP3 mail server can read the headers and use filtering, then reject the file if it looks like SPAM. Additionally, if the laws require that advertisement MUST HAVE these headers, under penalty of prison, the server could be programmed to store the message and record the mail transaction to be given to the corresponding authorities.
This is specially true if the spammer tries to do multiple (read: thousands) mail requests per day.
PHP spread FUD about Apache2 because that's what they *THINK* of it.
[F]ear - what if my PHP processes crash?
[U]ncertainty - has this thing been tested yet?
[D]oubt - Hmmm I'm not sure...
And as far as I know, no one has dared to make a COMPLETE TEST of PHP running with Apache2, explaining which PHP modules fail and why.
In other words, it's simply FEAR OF THE UNKNOWN what the php community has about Apache2.

:( I posted it to be FUNNY!
Of course, a recent gammaworld campaign has served to remind me that mutations are almost always beneficial, so there is nothign to fear.
Of course! How could I miss that! Blinky is the perfect example of this. Stupid me, doh!
Evolutionarily successful people are evolutionarily successful
Humanity IS evolved. Think of it as a whole. It's not the survival of the INDIVIDUAL, but the survival of the SPECIES.
From this point of view, mankind is the ultimate success. (We're here, aren't we?)
However... when we start competing against EACH OTHER, is when things start getting scary.

Serious. I read that in a computer magazine a few years ago.
1. Get the price of that thing with WinXP Pro SP2.
2. Replace WinXP with Linux, but don't change the price.
3. ???
4. PROFIT!

She was being given a C64 when child (like me ;-) ). She also happens to be a high-IQ person (i.e. geek).
The fact that it's a "she", is irrelevant. Might as well have been a boy and achieved the same goals.

Just a thought.
Sorry, but I don't believe a word of it. NOBODY listens to embedded midi's.
Not unless you're making your own anime fanfiction webpage with midis included for the dramatic scenes.
Well, as a non-native speaker, I never knew the word "gimp" had a meaning in the English language. Just looked up m-w.com... gimp means cripple
:)
So in terms of user interface, the GIMP lives up to its name, right?
So anyway, GIMP works fine for me. I have no idea about PS and suspect I never will.
Funny. A photoshop user said exactly the same thing. Perhaps if the GIMP had user-interface compatibility with Photoshop... maybe... who knows.
"Chii????"
OK, bad example.

It has.

In fact, I'm using it in my firefox right now, listening to embedded midi's
And yes, it ONLY enables windows media player. All other activex plugins have to be inserted by hand.

Everyone knows the only reason to learn any language is to make money.
Actually, there are other (and pretty stupid) reasons to learn japanese.
