This is fairly interesting because my School District announced they wouldn't provide student-information to the Pentagon by default. Oh yeah, we're the only district in the nation to do this. Normally, it's opt-out, not opt-in. Needless to say, everything else school related is opt-out. And I haven't received any notice to opt-in.
Because our school is full of defiant jerks (read: they once refused to pass a budget as required by law) we stand to lose Federal Funding.
I can't say I'm terribly surprised. I know I personally changed my homepage to FoxNews from CNN because they both had interesting videos, but I couldn't watch CNN's. (Oh yeah, and I moved cause I didn't feel like downloading realplayer for CNN)
Honestly, "exercise what little freedom we have left."
You make it sound like we live in Soviet Russia. There are so many freedoms in the United States, which, apparently we all take for granted. I don't hear about anyone thanking the US for creating a stable economy where we can get jobs. I'm not trolling here, but people need to keep it in perspective.
No it doesn't. Ignoring the sarcasm, there is a real reason why there isn't a federal government. It's something all you small-gov't states-righters Libertarians should be citing right now. It's the US Constitution.
Among education and other things, running elections is delegated to the states. It would be a GROSS violation of Federalism to create a Federal Agency.
I think Evangelical supporters are bad for anything IMO, Especially political parties.
As a Republican, for example, I don't like how the Evangelical wing has taken over the Republicans from Fiscally Conservatives/States-righters to Who-The-Hell-Cares-As-Long-It-Appeals-To-"The"-Bas e.
There was a really interesting article in BusinessWeek a while back I read, about foreigners who were settling in India. It talked about how they lived in a lot of comfort, a very high standard of living, because, though they were paid $4,000peryear or so, everything costed dramatically less in India.
Speaking from personal experience, I knew a middle-class guy who moved to Brazil. He lived like a king in Brazil, big house, maids, etc. etc. etc. So there may be some advantages to outsourcing yourself.
Interesting thing however, I had a French Exchange Student, and we were talking about file sharing. He said in France, a person he knew was actually JAILED for 3 months for file sharing, and he knew of people that got 6-12 months.
He was pretty surprised that I told him almost everyone settled with the Recording Company and only really received a slap on the wrist.
oh grow up. using your logic, i suggest you apologize to the families of the millions and millions of people who died at the hands of the Soviet Union. Moreso than in the holocaust, I might add.
Let me just make one thing clear, and I'm not trying to flame/troll at all. In fact I agree with 99% of/.ers that the DMCA sucks.
Governments exist to serve the people that it represents. Of course the US is going to try to get its way, it's what it wants. Every other government does it too.
If all governments acted in the best interests of everyone, not just their people, we'd have global peace. As you can see from conflicts in Israel, Iraq, Taiwan, etc. etc. etc, this is not the case.
If you think about it, it's pretty incredible that it was started in a couple guy's appartment, just like Microsoft was started by a bunch of weird looking college students (some dropouts) at home, everyone's seen the pictures. Both are now worldwide leaders.
I'd have mentioned Apple but I don't know how Apple started.
French location chosen for fusion reactor.
does anyone know if Slashdot is accessible in China or Iran?

I don't have a problem with opt-out, does anyone?

I'm still in high school you insensitive clod!

Because you said "it"! No I said "it!" AHH WE ALL SAID "IT!"
C'mon slashdot, this has gone way too far.
Apple switches to Intel.
Sarge finally comes out.
Honestly, April Fools was like 2 months ago. Enough already!
HAHA THEY ACTUALLY DID. http://linux.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=05/06/06/ 2132219&tid=90&tid=117&tid=106
2 hours after you said that, eh.

Consider the differences of the enforcement...
Does this remind anyone else of that crappy Schwarzennegar movie, The Sixth Day? It's almost the exact same.
Anyways, I think, eventually, I'll be tired of living and want to rest in peace...
oh grow up. using your logic, i suggest you apologize to the families of the millions and millions of people who died at the hands of the Soviet Union. Moreso than in the holocaust, I might add.
Haha does it matter about us giving military equipment to Saddam? We rolled over him anyways!
Or a $200 dollar plane ticket to a 3rd world country, and all the hookers you'd ever want for a few dollars!
You'd still have money left for a nice T-shirt for the family.
Or the weightlifting equipment I was forced to use during Phys Ed today- "Warning: Placement of hand between weights may cause damage to hand."
Welcome our Google-slaying overlords.
Funny enough, you blogged a speech by Larry Page it on Blogspot. Of all the blogsites....

He should do it. The less he can screw around with the GPL (making corporations pay, licensing documents that use GPL fonts) the better GNU/GPL is. ;D

Yes! Now I can run 64bit on an OS I never wanted to use in the first place!
Has anyone actually RTFA?
The guy has twisted and distorted Microsoft's position into his opinion that Microsoft hates gays.
He is very biased, unfactual, and a blogger. I don't think you'd hear this kind of ranting from CNN or CBS.
And slashdot accepts him and his opinion as credible news?
