Interestingly enough, this news has tanked the stock of V for Vendetta on the popular movie stock exchange, HSX
In the last two days, the stock has dropped from 70 to 50, with no bottom in sight. Sadly, I'm invested 50,000 shares in it, so it's hurt me/the market quite a bit.
For those of you who wonder why it hurts the stock, V for Vendetta first was scheduled for November, which is a good month for movies. March is typically much weaker. Secondly, people don't want to hold onto it for 7 months as opposed to 3.
does anyone think M$ will get their money from this guy?
My bet is that this guy is broke/will be broke from many other companies/people/governments suing him and will certainly never have the money to pay. So though this may look huge, I'm not sure it will actually happen.
One of the reasons I have not wanted to switch to VoIP (other than the 911 deal) is because if the power goes out, so does your VoIP phone. Landline phones keep on working during power outages because of the nature of their setup.
Combining the two, what if you had an assailant break into your house during a power outage?
Microsoft accused Lee of breaking his 2000 employment contract, in part by taking a job with a direct competitor within a year of leaving the company.
Sounds like a load of crap to me. First of all, M$ is pretending to be a direct competitor to Google. In reality, they're not really. I've heard of some weird people using Yahoo for search, but MSN?
Secondly, why would Microsoft prevent an employee from taking a job at a rival as opposed to, oh say, signing a Trade Secrets Confidentiality agreement? Wouldn't that have made more sense?
Maybe it would have. I don't know what's going through Ballmer's head.

No, we aren't going to abort 100' off the launch pad.
This is to prevent a Columbia-esque thing from happening again. You'll remember the Columbia didn't blow up on launch, but on re-entry. Had we had 107 cameras to decide it's hull was compromised, we might not have sent them down in the Columbia without having repaired it or something.
I daresay we'd probably allow fundraising for al Qaeda here.
I doubt it. I'm sure the IRA would be reviled universally if they had killed 3,000 citizens, destroyed billions of dollars of property, and changed a way of life.
It's not so much an absolute as much as it depends on the numbers, as sick as that may be.

Looks kinda like my younger sisters Geocities site.
Only on /. would that get modded "insightful."

They just "borrow" from the competitor.

Intentionally assisting him? As in, giving him a job?

This is your boss. This is even more ironic than you thought, because, all us at management are watching this story.
You're fired.

Except rather than the NYT, we have Slate (an article written by PhD economist Steven Landsberg) writing this same article several months ago. My comment about the logic of executing worm writers...

We don't watch it launch.

Nah. Just DRM the hell out of it. It's what we've done with everything else!

Maybe he shouldn't get let off so easily. Here Steven Landsburg, a PhD in Economics, explains the economic logic behind executing worm-creators
does SCO actually legitimately create anything, anymore?
I disagree. I think regardless of who Bush chooses, the Democrats will fight, moderate or conservative.
I doubt anyone will sue them for trying to sell the PS3 for cheap, but I'm surprised this hasn't raised a few eyebrows among economists/the DOJ.
Let's hope not in our lifetime.
