  1. It'll happen, if it isn't happening already on DNA Testing For Jobs May Be On Its Way, Warns Gartner (computerworld.com) · · Score: 1

People already submit to letting their employers test their blood and pee for whatever substances the employer chooses. They also let their employers check their credit. Most people don't give a shit about any sort of privacy. They just want what they want, and they want it NOW. Heck, I'm surprised that DNA testing of employees isn't happening already.

  2. We use Chinese made hardware because it works better than US made stuff (Cisco). If the Chinese gov't wants to spy on our business, they can have at it. It's worth it to us to have reliable equipment.

The terminals support several payment schemes.

So what? Terminals can be bulletproof, but you still need software to talk to those terminals, and that's where the problem usually lies. ApplePay wouldn't prevent any of those security problems at all.

So, all you have to do is to give all of your banking info to Apple. Yeah, that's totally secure! They're known for being a really great bank.

"News for Nerds". There are lots of nerds that don't have anything to do with science or technology. There are even economics nerds. So, stuff it.

It depends on what you're buying, of course. I have managed to get through my entire life, so far, having bought *nothing* from Amazon. I know it may ruffle your butt cheeks, but it's not only possible, but it's not difficult, either.

  12. And people will still spend money there... on Amazon To Hire 20% More Holiday Workers To Meet Growing Demand (bloomberg.com) · · Score: 0

And the unsurprising aspect is that people will continue to spend money with them, hand over fist. Everybody who spends money with them are just as guilty of this as the company, themselves. People know that Amazon treats its employees like shit, but nobody cares when it comes down to their own wallet.

  18. "Fitness bands" are a fad on The Microsoft Band Is Dead (zdnet.com) · · Score: 3, Insightful

"Fitness bands" are a fad, anyway. MS is smart to get out of them sooner rather than later. "Fitness bands" are something that out of shape people use for a week, then toss in a drawer, somewhere, never to be seen again. People who exercise on a regular basis don't need to know heart rate and all of that other silly stuff, unless they're seriously competitive athletes, which is, of course, a tiny market.
