But you pay more for it. I have flown to Japan from the US twice and from Europe twice and every time ANA or JAL was significantly more expensive than their European or American competitors(for the record I've flown United, Continental, Finnair and British Airways). While none of the flights were the seat of luxury, they were certainly bearable. I almost considered ANA last time because it was only $250 more than BA, but I still couldn't rationalize spending that much money for essentially the same service.

For the record, I am 6'2(185 centimeters) and I certainly don't like getting crammed into a seat, but if you stay up all night before you can just spend the entire flight sleeping anyway.

Because your leader doesn't solely belong to you. One of the central tenets of liberty is that the rights of the minority are protected against the tyranny of the majority. Of course thats a bit abstract and in practice a balancing act, but someone who says that nobody should be allowed to eat pork or drink beer is obviously violating the rights of us beer swilling bacon eaters. And of course the opposite is true, anyone who forces someone to eat pork and/or drink beer(outside of Germany of course :P) is a tyrant and should be deposed.

Plus, in my opinion the depth of your faith is inversely proportional to how much you try to push it on others. If you are really confident that your faith is the true faith, why would you need to force others to follow you? Shouldn't the fact that you can live a peaceful productive life with your faith be enough to convince others that it is the right faith? After all, if your God(s) truly are blessing the pious, then you will be rewarded in spades.
On the other hand, if you are forcing others to adopt your faith, you obviously don't believe that is the right faith but instead just want others to suffer with you.

I think their main folly is that they don't distinguish between the power necessary to service requests vs. the total power used(which includes all the power it takes to index sites and store the results so they can be fetched quickly etc.) There is a big difference as the power required to index is relatively static and thus doesn't depend on the number of searches. In fact, the power per search using their methodology may actually drop the more searches that are performed because each search's share of the power required for indexing drops.

large groups to do science is simply the cost and complexity of experiments. Nowadays very few groundbreaking experiments can be done in your garage, you need access to expensive machines(and often lots of energy) in order to conduct your research. And since they probably won't hand the keys to the LHC(once its repaired) to some upstart grad student with a new theory, it becomes necessary to spend vast amounts of time "proving" yourself while building the necessary connections to see your experiment come to fruition.

I think this study is partially flawed because they only look at Nobel prize winners, which exclude fields like Mathematics(where no labs are necessary in many cases). If mathematicians are getting older then I would be more inclined to believe their conclusion.
