Well in my anecdotal experience in addition to be louder, people tend to be more candid on cell phones than when talking to another person in a public area. When I was in college I always found it fascinating to listen to the snippets of conversations that I could hear from people on cell phones while on my way to class. One girl was yapping about the venerial disease she apparently contracted recently. I doubt she would have talked about such a subject that loudly if the conversation partner was next to her. Certainly not something I would want to hear from someone sitting next to me on a trans-ocean flight.
Did they actually stock cds that weren't mainstream? Did they try to make that the thrust of their business? Myabe it's just me, but most record stores try to make the process of buying music(or hell, discovering new music) as bland as expensive as possible. If I want a bland environment with tons of mainstream music I can go to Best Buy and get better prices. If record store owners want to survive, they are going to have to move to where iTunes/Best Buy/WalMart doesn't tread because there is no WAY they can compete with them on price. They need to actively encourage local bands and make sure they have plenty of indie artists and staff who actually listen to the music and can talk enthusiastically about them. Otherwise, what is the point of paying the premium for the record store?
or is it just part of being human, and more importantly, a part of who you are as a person? I exhibit all the signs of adult ADD(lets not go into the debate of whether it is really a disease or not) but I refuse to take personality altering drugs. I may wind up more successful etc. but I lose a fundamental part of who I am. I won't take anti-depressents for the same reason. So I personally fail to see how absent mindedness is something different. Its part of who you are, embrace it!
They released the original arcade game on the XBox 360 and you can play it over the internet via live. I'm not sure exactly what the rules are, since there are no "quarters" to insert per se, from what I understand you get so many lives to beat the game.
I concur! Seriously, outside of brain age all the sudoku ds games suck. Actually it was brain age that got me hooked on that game, but I refuse to play it on paper because I think the brain age implementation was perfect. I am taking my chances and pre-ordered sudokuro(should be out on the 12th), but I guess I will have to wait and see if I will end up regretting that.
I thought Magic would be neat too, but I'm not sure there is enough screen real estate to really be able to play the game. I mean one screen could be your hand, the other the field(or at least one half of the field), but ultimately you are trying to squeeze too much into a small space. Plus those bastards at wizards have never released a good implementation of the game which allows you to use all the cards without paying through the nose(I played the free beta of magic online which was pretty good, but they want you to buy all the cards instead of just paying a flat fee)
now maybe you will announce an update to oh I don't know, the computers you sell? Seriously, it has been 5 months since Apple released anything new on the computer end. I could live without AppleTV, iPhone and iTunes, but I really want a new mac!
Off topic kvetch I know, mod me accordingly. And my captcha is "nothing" which is what has come out of Apples computers....
It's actually not really "manufactured" there either. For example, the packaging of a lot of CPUs(which tends to be the most labor intensive) is done in Malaysia and by US rules it is therefore "made in Malaysia" even though the chip itself may have been made in a fab in the US. IIRC, something has to be more than 70% of its value created in the US for it to legally carry the "Made in the USA" tag.
I agree, the article seems to be nothing but a collection of vapid buzzwords "network readiness" "innovation" etc. First and foremost it's an incredibly sensationalist headline based on a survey...a SURVEY! Of economists! Furthermore, "technology" is not a monolith that can be assigned a number very easily. What "technology" are we talking about here? Space? Biotech? Computer chips? Anything you can think of will be pretty arbitrary. For example, if we base rankings on the number of deep space robots, the US would win hands down. The US is the only country currently with a land rover on another planet(well, functioning one anyway). Does that mean the US "leads" in technology? It doesn't preclude it, but not much else. What is this obsession with ranknings anyway?
Thats not to say nothing needs to be done in the US, quite the contrary. They can start off by making college remotely affordable for people who want to go into science/engineering but aren't minorities and don't have rich parents etc.
Well before the launch they were talking about how they produced so many units you should just be able to walk into your local retailer and walk out with one(sans waiting in line in cold weather for hours) on launch day. A huge nintendo fanboy friend of mine bought that line and ended up having to wait until well after Christmas to get one. He's not really bitter about it, but.....
but wasn't one of Diebold's main selling points on using computerized voting over paper ballots that computerized voting systems help disabled people vote?(I do believe at some point they invoked the Americans with Disabilities act as a rationale for deploying these systems). So now disabled people actually help pick out a system and Diebold sues? (I guess according to Diebold disabled people aren't able enough to choose a system wisely:P)
is whether not Apple will introduce iPods(hd or not hd based, possibly depends on the size/cost of flash) that have a subset of the iPhone features and a similar screen. If they do would that end up cannibalizing the iPhone market?
This is just my personal preference, and anything in it that applies to anyone else or the market as a whole is probably a coincidence, but I LIKE having my iPod and phone seperate. That way I can enter into situations in which my phone could be stolen(in tourist areas when travelling, at parties, anywhere were copious amounts of alcohol are consumed really) without having to worry about my phone getting stolen(it's worth maybe $20 at most) and since I have a phone i can call help/call people to meet up with etc. Not to mention a cheap phone tends to have longer battery life than most smart phones and can be abused without much repricussion. I won't get an iPhone, but an iPod with similar capabilities would rock!
That isn't what the poster is talking about. The poster is talking about the fact that in the US, even within a state different areas can add their own sales taxes on top of the state mandated one. For example in PA the tax rate in Allegheny county(which Pittsburgh is in) was 1% more than the state sales tax. I lived on the edge of Allegheny and Butler counties, and a lot of people who lived on the other side came over to make major purchases(thus saving the 1% tax)
They were trying to optimize the summary's performance by using both cores, but ended up with a race condition where both wrote. But it is finally a chance to break out the "selfcontaineddupe" tag!
Mitigating circumstance to mentioned on judgement day: he never asked to be born in the first place.
RIP

I think you mean ^advantage^disadvantage

Yeah, but you could just download your gmail to mail.app using POP3 and get the same result.
So I don't have to sit in a confied space and hear people yapping about the various venerial diseases they picked up on spring break.

TMNT is 100 more points than most NES games? Regardless, I need to get a wii but can't find one :P

it pops up all sorts of porn pages I never even asked for!
And since they'd need to know what Natalie Portman (*cough*) tastes like, I'm willing to volunteer my services.
Grits dude! I thought everyone knew that

Dude, just stick your head out and look! It's not that hard.

people in West Virginia have been making these for YEARS!
'ordinary' hero, and the extremely large time investment required to 'get anywhere'.
If you had an extraordinary hero who could do everything right off the bat, what would make him/her extraordinary then?

I dunno, they could always start masturbating and crying. That would pretty much make you want to go away.....

520 have died in a single plane accident already(you can hear the final moments of this planes flight on the Rammstein CD Reise Reise if you so desire), so it's not exactly unprecedented.
