Excuse me, but the arrogant one is you. This man saw a future he did not want to live in, did something about it, in the process helped millions of other people, while at the same time he is awarded enough money for his accomplishments to live off of (RMS). He continues to selflessly help people by making it impossible for the "big guys" to take over what could possibly be your life's work and accomplishments. And you... you ramble about what he looks like? Do you honestly believe that you have any point what-so-ever?
As far as I can tell, an idiot in a suit, with a haircut, and even if he is clean shaven, is still an idiot.
The worst part about this is that RMS is actually one of the most qualified people to discuss the topic, and it is very stupid to simply ignore him. They could have been polite and said something to the tune of "we are busy right now, how about next month?".
And don't get me started about how many times peoples' doors have been kicked open by others that thought they had the right to do just that. You live in the real world son, not some fairy tale. Just hope you'll never go through it yourself.
Unfortunately it seems that everyone has missed the point that I was trying to make, so I will reply to myself rather than anyone specific.
Why call someone intelligent if they continually do stupid things? Mind you, I'm not talking about mistakes. Intelligent people make mistakes all the time, and recognize them as such. The people that do stupid things regularly aren't learning anything, so where does intelligence play its role?
Are you all absolutely positive that we are all talking about the same type of people? It doesn't seem like that to me at all. Seems more likely that either my interpertation, or yours, of what constitutes an intelligent person is severely warped.
Ok, well, in this case, the subject matter is entierly different. I really haven't met people that are intelligent but not wise. I guess I just don't call them intelligent.
I, for one, find this insane. For anyone thinking that this will actually give you a good idea of what that person is about in their personal lives, snap out of it. There are so many variables to concider. Don't you realize that a person can type just about anything at all on a blog?
Here's a scenario: Someone who isn't very secure in life, and is picked on a lot, comes up with an online persona that of a bully. He tells stories about how he harrasses people, mean while it is he who's being harrased.
Pictures? Ha! Have none... NONE??? of you heard of posing?
Nudity? GROW UP, PEOPLE GET NAKED. I know that generally you can't help but associate nudity with sex. That is what the american culture is about it seems. Sad really, that one cannot feel simply comfortable in their own skin without being objectified one way or another by an idiot who doesn't know better.
See, there you go just running off with your mouth. How can one be both a chatty FOOL and INTELLIGENT? You are contradicting yourself completely. Look, if the person is indeed smart, he or she will KNOW when to shut up. However, when they do talk about something personal, it would be foolish of you not to listen. Cheers.
Most people that show up to these things have the spare time, this goes hand in hand. For those of us that are busy (read: normal), whenever we do setup a LAN party, it's friends, and we are all very social. And usually very drunk:).
but real-world PHP-programmers don't even use joins or subselects."
Real world PROGRAMMERS, even PHP programmers, use libraries to abstract DB access out as much as possible. Otherwise, these aren't programmers. Hackers, maybe, but not programmers. For PHP, Creole with either Jargon or Propel seem to work very well.
In any case, if your query needs more than one line to be expressed, you should move it into the DB, and create a stored procedure.
I completely agree, but this isn't what I meant. Here, it's not you who I end up paying, it's man in the middle. I can't quite comprehend what possible claim this particular middle-man has to either what you did for me, or vice-versa.
Granted the use of the word "evil" might be just a little out of context in a debate about morals. However, under what cicumstance, do you figure, that DRM, and the various incarnations thereof, is of any benefit to society? I realise that there is an immidiate short term gain for a few key people on this planet. I do not know these people, and they live in a different country, and all they seem to do is yell "gimme gimme GIMME!". So, just how much am I supposed to give a stranger? When does it stop?
Things like genes for tails, extra eyes, exoskeletons, fins, etc...
I don't think it works quite like that. Tail = spine + length, thus can be in any species that includes genes for spine building. Extra Eyes = Eye gene + "Number of eyes" gene, thus this gene combo can exist in any species that has eyes. Exoskeleton = Hard Material building genes + some schema genes to produce an internal/external structure, it's probably concievable that some of this code is shared with plants (cell walls maybe?), tho I wouldn't know, and this is just my own speculations.
I guess it would make more sence if you have done any sort of object oriented programming. Not that I'm trying to use programming as an analogy, at any rate, the "code" isn't liniar, and is based on interactions of atoms. I wouldn't be surprised if it's even more complex then any one person can concieve.
So, basically, you just said the same thing he did. You're making the comparison between now and later, but see, when later becomes now the outcompeting species is still just "good enough" rather than "best". They just happened to be better than the others.
though I must say I don't understand why everyone here prefers to look at gray on gray all day. Yes, XP on default is Fischer Price, but that's a hell of a lot better on the eyes than gray on gray
There's this whole science devoted to understanding what is the optimal combination of colours that would least stress the eyes. It is important for people who stare at the screen for the better part of the day not to screw up their vision. Gray is one of those easy to look at colours.
Today's Operating Systems do not come bundled with a programming language. They seek to remove us further from the inner workings of the computer.
There is only one operating system I'm aware of that does not come with programming tools. Maybe two, but I'll forgive the second one.
Every other OS I've ever used had programming tools out of the box, and I've only started using OS's in the last 4 years. Don't tell me you haven't, at least, heard of Linux, or *BSD.
If your 2 yr old is writing letters, emailing, printing, transferring pictures from their camera, burning music CDs, balancing their bank account, tracking their stocks, etc. then I will be impressed by your superior genes. However, many people have no problems doing the simple things like finding a game and playing it. Yet with complexity comes difficulty.
Why can you not simply point and click on the icon? Are you having trouble finding it?
If someone has learned a particular way of doing things, they have a tough time switching gears into a new paradigm/UI/menu structure. Your kid benefits from having a clean slate and will probably be hesitant to switch to anything else later on.
Here you are claiming that pointing and clicking is different (and thus more difficult) than pointing and clicking. Why?
The older you get, the more inflexible you brain seems to get. You want things *your* way... just like the good ol' days! Some people manage to keep a nimble brain as they age but it takes mental exercise to do so and the vast majority of people let their brain get flabby. I don't blame them as the work environment is structured to flabbify your brain as you advance through it. Less precarious due to more power, less challenging, more specialization and leaning on previous experience, etc. Your kids' brain is still a knowledge sponge.
No, first, that's only what people think. A human is a human. A human can adapt, and will once feels that it is required of him/her. Second, the good old days rhetoric is nothing more than a cliche spoken by middle aged idiots. There are no 'good old days'. Besides getting into the physics of the 'existence of the past', it's not hard to see that any day is just like any other day. The old days were just as shitty, and if someone can't see that, then I don't really know why anyone actually bothers listening to them, as they don't actually provide insight, they provide delusions.
You do not have to let your brain get flabby. All you need to do for that is just be lazy. The only problem I can see with your logic, really, is this creepy consensus that it's okay for some people to walk right over others. Don't you realize what you have just said? This enviornment you just mentioned? It's the only reason that you can get this lazy. If anything, it's a negative feedback loop. I don't understand how anyone, giving this any serious thought, could miss that.
But the meat of it all, is that you don't blame them. Why not? Is it because they are blind? Are you sure that the kids won't pick up on this same selective blindness as a result?
A standard, and the implementation thereof, are not the same thing. The sad truth is that the functionality has been left intact in many compilers in order not to break legacy software, but it is not, by any means, standard. So, again, this is not valid C/C++, but, really just a compiler bug.
That is exactly what I'm refraining from calling intellingent.

This so deserves more funny points... it's priceless.

I don't think he tried. But thank you very much for pointing that, non obvious, detail out.
Cheers
Very OT, but... Jimmy M. Lives! :)
As a former Wendy's employee, you have my sentiments.
There's this whole science devoted to understanding what is the optimal combination of colours that would least stress the eyes. It is important for people who stare at the screen for the better part of the day not to screw up their vision. Gray is one of those easy to look at colours.
Dude, you're using Windows. You admitted it. You have no ammo. :)

Dear AC, all you need is computer, electricity, and a brain.
Socialist = government
Capitalist = economy
Further more, where, on this planet, have you found a purly Capitalist society?

It didn't compile for other reasons, syntax isn't one of them.
