Ok, well obviously this 24-year old is an idiot. I'm only 22, and I'm fully aware of DEC. We used to run VAXes, and then AlphaServers, at my high school.
God I hate the quantization of internet culture. There's nothing more lame than some academic know it all spewing junk about how web facilities are creating fun new words.
If we were to use these millions of particularly unspecialized (in terms of computational ability) home PCs, wouldn't the cost be in pollution? You're consuming lots energy to crunch some numbers... you'd be plenty more efficient if you used some supercomputers. I think it's a good idea, but I wonder if this wouldn't cause more problems.
I hate to put up flamebait how such and such just plain sucks, but this is an exception. Verizon sucks. It's too bad they're pretty much the cheapest around here and the only broadband provider where I live. I'm using a subsidiary of Verizon called VerizonAvenue, which is focused on apartment communities. We have a DSLAM on site and connect directly to it. Nice that we don't need a land line, however the service is just plain awful. This might be a faster service but don't count on it making you much happier, the company behind it is terrible. The horror stories are out there to prove it.
If it's 100 pounds, it's not really a laptop. Where I used to work there was a 75 pound tower with a handle on top, maybe that's what they're getting at...
I disagree with #1. Granted girls are probably more likely to fool around in college but this is exaggerated here. It depends a lot on who you are and where you go to school. Girls still like to pick those guys you didn't like in high school. The aggressive types who will seal the deal before you figure out what to say. At a lot of more expensive schools, those concerned with their image, will have rather conceited girls. It's good to be in an area where there are many schools (e.g. Boston) where you end up meeting people from all around.
Generally I think the subject is overplayed in movies and in the minds of high school seniors. I think you'll definitely have more luck than in high school, but seeing as you're here you probably won't need the "big box".:)
Yes, that's because over time, photons get trapped underneath the mouse when you are outdoors. Every few seconds you must pull the mouse away from the surface to allow for photon release.
Ok ok, actually the plastic on the mouse is probably not opaque enough. Paint the inside of the mouse's top panel black or something.
If it's anything like Bose's audio products, they will never release any measurements on the suspension, but it will be obviously 10x better than current models.
Good to hear the Linux filesystem envelope is being pushed further. The illustrations make me wonder if LSD had anything to do with Reiser4, but... whatever helps, I suppose.
How do you prounce it? Yah-Queue? Why-Queue? Yahoo! Query? Maybe Eee-Queue?
Where's befunge? Best. Language. Evar.
oh wait, they already did it.
By the way, RS-232 isn't the hardware port, it's a signaling protocol. The connector on those machines is probably a DE-9.

Well, this would use idle CPU cycles. That means it'd keep the processor 100% busy all the time. That uses more energy.

...is reporting that Toshiba is recalling notebook RAM blaiming third-party DIMMs... Don't blame it on the editors, it was a bit error in memory.
I have also used both RCN and Comcast cable with great success.

yes, Nyquist theory says that you must sample a signal at twice its frequency to accuractely reproduce it.
A recent study shows that 3 out of 4 people make up 75% of the population!
Every time I hear this advertised I picture the cryogenic technician in the first Futurama episode, saying "Welcome to the WOOORRLD of Tomorrow!"

They block 'unixbox'? Why in the world would they want to block that?

Haven't you noticed that it always costs more for specially-engineered hardware systems? Not to mention all those gigabit interconnects.
The only thing the mice in my old apartment introduced was poop. Into that bag of doritos I mistakenly ate.
