I recently found a copy of this MicroProse classic at a thrift, and it is now prominently displayed in my office. This game was very far ahead of its time (although almost impossible without a guide), and stands in my mind as one of the best PC games ever made, along with Willy Beamish, Loom, and Alone in the Dark.

Instead of doing remakes, such as The Day The Earth Stood Still, how about we take older properties, such as, I don't know, Neuromancer? Or maybe something newer like Cryptonomicon? And while you're at it, could you remotely stick to the source material, unlike that abomination you called I Am Legend? I think the only thing that the movie had in common with the book was the fact he was alone in the city.

You should tell that to the thousands of NIPRNet NT boxes that are still out there despite the product being sunset 5+ years ago.

Just because the EAL rating was based on it not being connected, doesn't mean that the DoD didn't allow it to be connected. For god's sake I think the NT STIG is still available.

  7. Re:You shouldn't have military plans on the Net on Inside the Secret War Against Internet Spies · · Score: 2, Interesting

I'm a little fuzzy about this. I assume your comments are referring to Boeing policy.

Windows boxes have been allowed on the SIPRNet and JWICS since before I started my IT career. NT 4.0 was NIAP approved ages ago to do so. While those systems (arguable) aren't connected directly to the net, their boundaries have greatly expanded over the last 5 years to areas outside of military control.

The only drives that are locked up at night (in my environment) are ones that are used for desktops in non open-storage areas.

Now if you want to talk about problems, let's discuss why firms like SAIC, Boeing, etc. really need SIPRNet drops to their contracting facilities rather than bring the contractors on site...

On the flipside of that coin, I doubt that grandma and grandpa will adopt -ANY- HD technology within a period of time relevant to the outcome of this 'battle'.

Blockbuster, Hollywood, et al were the only option back then. Removing B&M stores from the equasion really does change the game.

It's okay not to like something, but it's moronic to say it's crap, especially when the evidence points otherwise:

and just to get my bitch in, i hate D&B here because all they have for fighting is a 35+ mame cabinet that has SF2 (not WW/CE/etc). jesus, shell out for a 3s machine to appease people. it'd probably make more money than the 3 broken pinball tables you have. (and i love pinball!)

  25. Re:A non-bought comparison on Comparing Xbox Launches · · Score: 1

oh, so close. i agree with you 110%, right until you mention PC gaming. i agree, the PC can be a great platform, but the whole point of the console is you have a set criteria of hardware to deal with. that is why i like consoles. the PC hosts my favorite game of all time (urban terror, no link, look it up yourself) but when it comes to new games, i don't feel like upgrading anymore. i tried HL2 on my ATI 8500 (i think) and it looked... okay. i bought it used for the XB for 20$ and it looked better on a system i paid 150$ for years ago. I enjoyed it probably as much as the PC people, for less, and didn't need to worry about graphic card drivers. the PC definatly owns the niche market, but in a family like mine (26+, 150k+ a year salary) i just don't want to deal with the PC anymore. I can't justify the bi-monthly upgrades.
