While it may be feasible to create the network of cameras described in (a), it is substantially difficult with current technology to implement the optical character recognition required to implement part (b).

bullshit. i have a fastrak transponder here in california for going through tolls. i ride a motorcycle, so i have to keep the transponder on my person instead of a dashboard. if the transponder fails to be detected for a toll, my plates are OCRd and matched against what's registered in my account. recently, i got vanity plates for my bike and forgot to update my fastrak account with the new details. without fail, i received a bill from the state assuming i was a scofflaw. if the OCR can pick up tiny ass motorcycle plates going 80 (sometimes at night), they can pick up car plates going 30 in the daytime.

the only thing i find lacking in the iPhone is the lack of enabled bluetooth profiles. lack of a2dp on a music device just seems strange, i can somewhat understand not enabling the DUN profile (though i don't really see it adding that much more to their network throughput), and, most importantly, not having the serial port profile enabled just seems ridiculous on a device that's supposed to be a hub for other, separate devices.

as a fellow 12" G4 PB user, i have no idea where you're getting some of this stuff from.

In my experience the Mac crashes more often than my XP machine.
in my experience, i've only KP'd when I was futzing with the internals of the OS or installing things that did the same. most users only install things via drag-to-applications or opening a package, not even knowing the terminal even exists.

The Dock irritates me no end on this small 12" screen.
i'm going to dispute your "arguably am more knowledgeable than most users" statement as you either a) haven't located the dock preferences in system preferences or b) did not bother to read/comprehend the specs of 1024x768 on a 12" screen when you were making your purchase.

I'll take the Windows task bar any day. Simpler is better.
purely subjective statement. i myself find it easier to keep the apps i use 90% of the time in the dock rather than have to click through the start menu, etc. to find my apps and having an indicator underneath to let me know that the app is running. combines the quick launch toolbar and the taskbar. but that's just me. other folks don't mind a little more complication.

It also drives me crazy that the Mac defaults to leaving all apps running forever instead of shutting them down when you click the "close" button.
bullshit. some apps stay running after you close their window and some apps shut down immediately. it's the same on windows when some apps shut down completely upon closing the main window and some apps stay open in the systray. it depends on how your particular application was coded and that is true no matter what OS you run.

not quite. i don't know if you follow sports or not, but this is the nfl we're talking about here, not mlb. and above that, we're talking about the new england patriots, not the arizona cardinals. there's not a snowball's chance in hell that the pats won't pack the house every game. the green bay packers don't even sell single-game tickets. every seat in lambeau is a season-ticket, and the waiting list is 37 years on average. in a town of about 100k residents!

i agree with you that the team is a business and has to hit the top of the curve where they're maximizing profits. but more than ticket sales are merchandise sales. price your fan base out of the market and they'll stop buying your jerseys, cancel their sunday ticket plan with directv, etc. etc.

of course, this whole discussion could be just navel-gazing as MA has anti-scalping laws and the nfl has revenue-sharing. i'm just pissed at brokers using bots to buy tickets and then gouging fans for them. that is, no matter how it's spun, unfair. especially in a league of only 16 game seasons, thus 8 home games per year.

so by your argument, only the wealthiest fans should be able to attend games because middlemen sprung up to grab the fans by the short hairs. why are tickets priced at the level they are? so that all members of the community at least have a shot at enjoying the game. if they feel they can't go, what's the point of supporting the team? (and buying the merchandise, following the games on tv and subsequent advertising, etc.)

i guess we're not going to see eye-to-eye, as i believe that just because you can do something, it doesn't mean you should. brokers are using bots to squeeze out folks that want to see a game and aren't interested in making a profit. using an unfair advantage to gouge people isn't taking advantage of market forces, it's acting like a complete douchebag.
