the only thing i have against b-rod is that he's a friggin' cubs fan. and though he's not the best governor (we only get "least corrupt"), he's going to hand that nutjob topinka her ass on a silver platter come november. after the other ryan fiasco -- which wasn't fair, jack should have been allowed to run and have obama wipe the floor with him for a myriad of other reasons -- i guess the illinois RNC had nobody better to trot out there (no milkman?).

yeah, we greedy americans are such assholes trying to get as much of a wage as possible in the face of astronomical (and rising) living costs and paying down the massive debt we got ourselves into getting the education needed for the job in the first place (and that's assuming we're in perfect health, which isn't a given). all the while companies are getting away with driving down wages in a non-union industry with practices like this. our government sure isn't doing anything to protect us, even taking away protections in place if we are down on our luck and can't make every payment, every month. but we're just fattened up pigs trying to get more from the trough, right?

if you expect me to be a programmer just for the 'passion' and not compensate me enough to actually have a decent life, i would never want to work for you anyway.

sorry, your analogy is close, but a bit off.

you can still put generic white, wheat, or rye in the 'toaster king'. it doesn't happen to take raisin, but raisin is only eaten by a few raisin-lovers anyway, in comparison to the white-wheat-rye-loving masses.

however, the toaster king company, inc. also bakes its own rye. you can buy this rye, but it will only toast in your 'toaster king'. it is possible to toast this rye in other toasters, but you'd have to tear off the crust in order to get it to toast in another toaster.

wow, completely missed the point of your parent's post.

we're geeks here. one might even say we're generally good with computers. and geeks with computers love to automate the fuck out of every tedious thing in their lives (at least i do). i, too, have a similar setup where azureus gets mininova's rss feed and auto-downloads the show into a special spot that's shared over the network so xbmc can open, making sure the filename conforms to a convention i like, then converting said show to mp4 and tagging it correctly so it shows up nice on my ipod, all automagically. really convenient. however, i'm a geek, i'm into that shit.

you, sir, still had to find the rss feed, set up your bt-program to parse and download (hoping that the filenames always conform to some regex), hope that the a/v is synced right (most are, but occasionally they aren't), and still had to set up a share to the tv. iTMS will save your CC data, so it's one-click subscription, iTunes has a one-click share. how's *that* for convenience? (for the non-geek)

i can't count how many times i've had to explain to family members and non-geek friends what this 'bit torrent' thing was, what an rss feed even is, and why only some things are viewable on an ipod, let alone why you couldn't tag something as 'tv show' in itunes even though that's how iTMS shows are tagged. hence, apple handling everything for a fee so that comedy central still gets paid for its content and the downloads are a guaranteed decent speed (DS and CR download speeds drop off dramatically after the first few days that the seed is posted) is good. jon stewart and steven colbert aren't ripped off, the convenience factor is still there, and it all works in a way joe-sumer will get. without needing their resident geek to set it up / explain it to them.
