Now where are we Canadians supposed to drive to for timely health care? America was always a backup plan in case you ended up on a long waiting list (or were a Prime Minister who didn't want to queue up with his electorate).
... by educating people, improving their quality of life, allowing them self-determination and treating them fairly - that's how you stop terrorism, by taking away its recruits.
Isn't that what's being done right now in Afghanistan? Problem is there's a small minority of folks in that country (~4000) who aren't as enlightened as you are, and don't want, like, women to be educated and stuff. So since said folks don't favor education, but you do, shouldn't you be onside with getting rid of 'em?
Oh, sorry, you meant we should be go stomping into countries which might or might not even support them and blow up or shoot a lot of brown people.
Right, 'cause starving them to death was so much more humane! How come I've never heard a hundredth the complaints about the Iraq sanctions' concentration-camp routine as I now hear regarding the invasion of Iraq, despite the former having over 10 times the bodycount of the latter?
And how exactly is foiling a plot to kill thousands of people 'pussy-like reactive defence'? I'm sure information on such plots is not garnered without much risk to the personal safety of the security agents involved.
Think about it: I've been watching on average 8 movies a week on VHS/DVD since the early '80s. During my parents' time, folks might have seen 1 movie a week in the theatre/on TV. Yeah, the quality/originality of movies have gone down over the last 25 years. But the sheer volume of movies our generation has been exposed to must factor into the equation, either raising our expectations or dulling our senses.
Ummm.. aren't the corporate pigs at Apple the ones causing the hearing loss in the first place (ie marketing a dangerous device to teens)? Why would I trust them to build me a computer? For all I know the thing could make me sterile. Or gay!
Wow - I guess that settles it then. Have you been to Iraq too?
Firefly.. my God where do I find the words to write how bad that show was? For you Canadians out there who've never seen it, think Beachcombers minus the charm. When you're shows most ardent defenders are claiming it was cancelled because of 'executives with a grudge' - yeah, 'nuff said.
Actually, the Canadian Health Care system was declared unconstitutional just this year by our Supreme Court, so yes private health care is now legal in our nation: http://www.cbc.ca/story/canada/national/2005/06/09 /newscoc-health050609.html/. Not that this decision mattered much, as private health insurance has been available in Vancouver, Quebec, and Ontario for quite some time now (our Prime Minister's personal physician runs a private clinic).
Oh, and vision, dental, certain forms of chemo (that one was a shocker), perscription meds, and all sorts of other health care goodies aren't covered under the Canadian Health act either.
Hopefully the next generation of Canadian politicians can deal honestly with our Health Care woes, the current generation doesn't appear up to the task. Except that new coke-head from Quebec..
Not only that, but not even counting our ageing baby boomer canucks, it's estimated that by 2026 at our current rate of growth health care expenses will account for 100% of our provincial tax base...
Let's see... in Canada if my cat has a tumor I can pay a guy to remove it. If my son has a tumor, I can't. He has to sit on a waiting list to be sacrificed on the alter of private health care.
Unless of course you're a canadian politician http://www.haciendapub.com/caps3.html/
Ever heard of Bill 101? It's a Quebec signage law "restricting access to English schools and prohibiting the use of English on commercial signs predominate on all signage" It's been ruled by the Supreme court to be a direct violation of the Charter of Rights & Freedom but guess what? The law has stood for over 20 years, despite the Supreme Court of Canada declaring it to be in violation of the Charter (Source: http://www.law.ualberta.ca/ccskeywords/bill_101.ht ml)
But wait.. it gets worse in the sacred Canadian legislation department - the Canadian Health Act whose second tenant proudly claims "all medically necessary services provided by hospitals and doctors must be insured". Again, completely violated by private for-profit MRI clinics in Montreal. (Source: http://cnews.canoe.ca/CNEWS/Canada/2004/04/23/4339 05-cp.html)
If this comes off as Quebec bashing it wasn't intended as such. It was to point out that in Canada, the Charter can, is, and will be violated subject to the discretion of the ruling class.
The key word is 'reluctant'... Paul Martin (Current Canadian Caretaker Prime Minister) doesn't have the word 'no' in his vocabulary. He'll never say 'no' to missile defense. More likely he's hoping the US abandons the idea, or at least doesn't implement it until he or Bush is out of office.
Maybe if Hillary is elected & supports missile defense (like her husband did), Canadians will swallow the idea better.

Debate is very unpatriotic in the US!
Remember that
-Only simpletons like Martin Luther King Jr claim to talk to God
-Only the UN can save humanity, especially the Jews!
-Only Bush believed Iraq had WMDs, no one from the state of Massachusetts did
-1.5 million dead Iraqi children killed by 12 years of UN sanctions... is OK! [devil's advocate mode off]
Dear MP3...
Even though experts have decreed that you will soon be replaced by a new and better way of doing things, I wouldn't worry.

that this story was about Paul Reiser. I could only assume his victim was comedy.

If this prevents him from ever finding work again in straight porn, can I be sued?
