No one, can retire Gojira. No one! Anyway: Godzilla is believed to have originally been intended by Toho (productions company) to represent the United States of America (being superior in its destructive capability)The name "Gojira" is a combination of "gorilla" and kujira, which means "whale" in Japanese." -wikipedia
The article is slashdotted already, but perhaps Toho has gotten over its fear of destruction of America? Or conversly, perhaps they are more scared of America and removed the "Gorilla" as not to offend a certain American who looks somewhat like a.... oh nevermind.
I have no scientific evidence for this, its just something I have noticed. The noise to signal ratio on previously popular file sharing programs like kazaa has increased exponentially. Someone, probably the RIAA is putting bogus files that only play 10 seconds then are ear piercing noise. Other companies offer you to buy a license when you download music from kazaa and you can't play the track till you do. This has frustrated the casual user, the majority of non techs among us.
Piracy is shifting towards new p2p networks like bittorent, and soulseek. I suppose as the article says digital music is maturing, as is digital piracy. I have noticed a greater diversity of file types on torrent sites. They offer flac for popular albums, and many are.aac (and yes vorbis). Also they offer full albums. Sure mp3 is still the most popular, but it is no longer ubiqitous. Also soulseek, which seems to draw a more mature music sharing crowd, offers a lot more.aac files.
Perhaps because pirating is becoming less intuative, and the pirate base matures. Then they are more informed to make choices about file formats.
Somehow I don't buy the argument of the article, that they are using mp3's to sample and then delete what they don't like. The common computer user has bought a box with way more hardrive space than they could possibly fill. People don't delete stuff unless their drives are full. Of course if you download an album and like it enough to buy the cd, then rip that cd again, the mp3 files would be deleted and replaced with the standard format of the music player you use. But the RIAA doesn't wish to concieve of online piracy causing a portion of sales.
Hell, "I Might Be Wrong". Perhaps there are just a crapload of iPods, the lawsuits are working and people now think unethical to pirate. But as Radiohead say, "I Doubt It".
The relationship between a political party and its supporters is at time a troublesome one. I firmly believe that you should support a party only so long as you share idealogies with them. However some people support parties so wildly, and believe so strongly that the political party starts becoming part of their identity. As such an attack on that party, is viewed as a personal attack. We see this in soccer hooliganism in europe. Think about yourself, do you think of yourself as a "republican" or a "democrate" or do you merely support certain ideas of the that party. Of course, political parties encourage this sort of behaviour. It allows them to change their views and still remain supported.
Also in this election has been billed as of the highest importance. The very course of human existence depends on the result in November. I am very concerned about the election result this year, but not at the extent of destroying private property, or otherwise resorting to violence. I may be underestimating the importance of this election, but if Bush wins, its only for four years.... This is a truism, regardless of whether you are the furtherest right conservative or the left enough to make Ghandi blush.

The logic of "Think of the Children Types":
GTA teaches our kids to steal, so our kids steal GTA, which teaches our kids to steal, so our kids steal GTA, which teaches our kids to steal... etc
Quite obviously, this vicious cycle is Rockstar's fault.
When you talk to the average person about Robots, they think of that terrible Robin Williams movie, or more recently I,Robot (the movie, not the terrific book). The point is, the term "robot" conjures up thoughts of artifical humans. However the strick definition of a robot is a machine automated to perform tasks in the place of humans. This is why I get disappointed reading articles like this, I go in with the anticipation of every geek. "Sex robots by 2007!" Ok maybe female geeks want cuddle robots... Anyway instead we get stuck with.... lawn mowers, and pretend dogs?
In the defense of the unwashed masses, I Love Bee can only work if its true meaning is obscured. The entire reward system is based on slowly getting new information. If everyone knew everything about it at the start it just wouldn't be fun. As I see it this is a big issue for these kind of reality games. Without Bungie using the format as a marketing tool, it would be even more obscure and less popular than now.
Oh my. Did I just defend ignorance on slashdot?
It would appear, to my much surprise, that none of you have read the wired article. Basically I Love Bee is a game. But a game played out in real life. They provide clues, and you run around working the clues out for more clues. This happens in the real world, using phones and websites. This game was used by Bungie to promote their own game, which happens on your XBOX. Very simple concept, terribly obscured.
Anyway these links provide more information, and a community you play the game.

They probably aren't ready for a slashdoting.
Red and Blue is funny, in part, because of the low key animation, and camera work. Its really just back and forth banter. Very little physical humour, really poor shots. You can't take it seriously, and that makes it funny.
But this... The Sims 2 engine is way too advanced for what they need. They are doing pans and zooms, the characters themselves are acting physically. You start to take it seriously. Who else was watching the opening facial animations and waiting for visual cues from the sims as to when to laugh? Comedy is about timing and Strangerhood looks too good not to take serious, but it isn't good enough to be able to nail down timing.
In the original release of the movie, when Luke threw himself to his apparent doom after his duel with Darth Vader, he did so silently and with dignity. You can listen to this scene by clicking here. For the Special Edition release of the film, a scream was added as Luke fell. You can hear the new sound effect by clicking here....I'm of the opinion that it sounds terrible. Thankfully the scream was removed for the 2004 DVD release.
Interesting information and well researched, but the writing is a tad amateur. Above is one humourous example.
Well this story happened to appear in the second of my monitors. For the mathematically astute among you, this implies that, yes indeed, I am a dual monitor user.
Am I more productive at this moment? Most definately not as I am reading slashdot rather that 40% essay due tommorrow. Infact I dare say no dual monitor users could reply to this thread and say they are increasing there productivity at that instant. Anyway...
Can dual monitors increase productivity? Why yes, I often take political science electives and find it a blessing to have a journal on one monitor and take notes on another. Or an spreadsheet and a end of month report in another. That is exactally the split focus task better suited to dual monitors rather than one huge monitor.
I also use it extensively for monitor based programs. Things like your mail client, media player, or p2p software. Applications you wish to check the progress of freguently, but which don't need to hold your focus. Its great having iTunes sitting there and be able to check which song is next or change the playlist.
Other distractions are certainly DVD's, but try as I might to train my eyes to focus seperately, alas I cannot watch two things at once. So dvd's are usually set to the directors commentry.
Or if I am playing some online game like Day of Defeat that has down time, I run a movie in the second monitor and watch it inbetween rounds.
However the most useless and least productive occupations I do is load up auto refresh sites. This one takes the latest pictures from live journal users and refereshes every 30 seconds or so. http://media.admirald.net/ljimages/?n=30&r=15+Seco nds
Terrible waste of time, but you do get eccentric and sometimes pornographic pictures.
Back towards the practical sense of things, I find an application called Ultra Mon useful.
http://www.realtimesoft.com/ultramon/ Is a program I use to have a seperate task bar for each screen, and be able to set independant sizes, refresh rates and wallpapers. No, I am not part of them, just found the program helpful. And I apologise for being a Windows user.
Just for your information, the two disc set info has been released. There is also going to be an 8 disc boxset with bonus DVD info.

Radiohead's "Creep" is going to be in GTA San Andres and refered to as a "one hit wonder".
Also rumoured is The Stone Roses "Fools Gold".
Looks to be a great soundtrack.
There is a significant part of the film community that doesn't see a causal link between technical and artist achievement. Many actually see the relative surge in the use of SFX as determintal to cinema. After all blue screen, CGI and digital worlds are just tools. Tools that can be used to create a masterpiece (Citizen Kane has a similar amount of effect shots as Star Wars, yet you wouldn't know) or create a Michael Bay film. I would also like you to consider a timeline of special effects, in many cases Lucas wasn't the conceiver, but the populariser.
I respect and appreciate the technical strides that Lucas took. Hell, I am enough of a geek to be here. However the AFI doesn't give technical awards, but artist awards. Cultural impact aside, I firmly believe Lucas isn't worthy of such an award.
Just an opinion of a film nerd. I am the guy who writes essays on the link between R2D2 and characters in Akira Kurosawa films. Disagree if you must, and many will.
I would say close to 85% of my music is pirated. I have 10,000 songs and perhaps 50 bought albums. I neither have an excuse or feel morally wrong for that fact.
Regardless. Because of the huge increase in total volume, that 15% represents more music than I have ever bought in my entire life. Since pirating, I have had a exposure to wider influences and found more music that appeals to me. I bought more albums this years than last, and more last year than the year before.
Also that ratio of 85% pirated to 15% legit is being pushed towards the legitimate. I have 1000 songs that came out in 2004 and nearly 30% of them I was so happy with I bought the album.
The local music store wasn't going to import the new Modest Mouse album till I kept haggling for it. It turned out to be a best seller for weeks.
So, I buy more music, I buy better music, and I get to listen to as much as I can hear. I can't seem to find the "loser" in this picture.
I am thinking we define Parody differently. Parody is for comic effect. Laughing is the last thing on my mind when I see naked women, though it appears to be the first thing on their mind when they see naked me.

Brian Singer has said all along he wanted an "unknown" to play Superman. Rumor is Kevin Spacey will be the bad guy.
