Funny you should mention this; I discovered not too long ago that the gnome file browser lets me browse directories with TrueType font files in them (shows a preview of the font, and I can double click to see more). Once I find the TrueType font file I want, I stick it in ~/.fonts (create directory if needed) and run "fc-cache" and bing, all the programs I care about(gimp, openoffice, etc) can now see my new font. Not great, but not as horrible as it used to be either.
Just for once I wish Microsoft would "embrace" face to face and not sneak up from behind. Can we at least get some lube for the "extend" part this time?
The best part about the blogger is no matter how ugly/naked he is, I don't have to actually look at him.

Gmail vs Pine

Why LaTex is better than OpenOffice. Does anyone else find this article kind of odd? While I can see my mom using gmail, I don't think I could convince her to use pine. Granted pine might be more powerful, and the additional features he listed are probably worth adding, but pine is sorta.... vt100-ish.
If you can't afford your own salt lick, you can probably find one just lying around on the ground at a cattle farm. As an added bonus it is probably chock full of growth hormones and random cow medicines, so enjoy eating it!
Just out of curiosity, what functionality does Gnome lack that KDE has that one would need? I have been using X for over 12 years now, and seriously I couldn't give a flyingbuttmonkey if I used either Gnome or KDE; as long as it can pop open windows and is reasonably easy to configure however I want it to look; what else do I need?
Ahh, but everyone complained about the AT&T deathstar too. I was a contractor at Lucent when they split into bits, and I vividly remember the complaints about the new "red sphincter" logo:-)
... this is something that would work best as an implant.
Make it give electric shocks and mandatory implantation for everyone and you have my full support. 90% of the people who bug me every day bore the hell out of me and would be screaming in no time, and since I never talk to anyone I would be safe, unless it detects me talking to myself when I am bored and starts shocking me?
Read the first few lines describing the assignment. Wait until two days before the assignment is due, and then he can get the donuts and coffee while you pull a few all nighters to finish the project. Get a friend to pretend to be your boss. Your friend should stand over your shoulder, asking if you are done yet, and read the rest of the assignment to you as you program, adding and subtracting requirements at random.
I need a button on my phone to send a goatse picture to the last caller when someone misdials me at 1am and then hits redial and calls me right back after I tell them they have the wrong number.
The good news: your new computer is 3 centimeters thick. The bad news: it is 40 meters long, and even though it looks pretty (ooohhh blinky lights) you dare not touch it for it will burn your hands.
How about "rise from the dead" and "causes wars in his name for thousands of years?" Wait a minute....

Gnome 2.14 Review

Well, in this case the application I am firing up is VMware, and lemme tell you it takes some time to start. Also if you keep clickityclicking, you can screw up your installation by running it more than once, which isn't good. I will look at what you mentioned, but I did find an application called busycursor that seems to do what I want (it can launch any app and display an hourglass while it starts). Still, it would be nice to have Gnome do this for me, so thanks for the info.
And please warn everyone before you start making them come standard with built in weapons.

Maybe it is lossy compression, which would be really nice when compressing executables and old spreadsheets.

Of course several dorm-sized fridges placed around the house full of beer would probably work better than the robot.

Bank account numbers and cleartext passwords. Sadly I am often disappointed, so maybe you could include more of those?
Plus if you cover your computer with tinfoil it keeps out the Bad Computer Control Rays. I wonder if it is safe to poke holes for the air vents?

Wow, and I thought I was jaded when it came to programming... :-)

Interesting, can I ask which VOIP company you use?

So you are saying I probably shouldn't bother installing quicktime so I can see the clip? Linux saves the day again!
#7 is the cellphone number of a linux nerd (I almost wrote "with no life who can help you at any hour" but that would have been redundant :-) )
My first thought when reading your response was, "wait, they failed to crash their jet into the ground?"
