This article by a geologist which suggests that the Earth is in serious, imminent, unavoidable danger.
Global warming will cause the earth to explode? Oh wait, you mean people (and possibly much of the life on earth) could be in danger. I doubt global warming will make much of a difference to the planet itself, except possibly to allow it to make more room for heat resistant lifeforms:-)
You won't get an spam ever again! Then again, you probably won't be able to find a single real message that could wend its way through them all either.

Japan spends $42 billion (1% of their GDP) on their military, while we spend $370 billion (3.3% of our GDP). Just imagine all the cool stuff we could make with over 200 billion dollars per year.
unmarried teenagers who,in this goofy scenario, can remain fertile until they are, lets say 400 years old
Not to pick on you or anything, but women become infertile because they run out of eggs (being born with all they will ever have already inside their body) so extending their lives won't do much for extending how long they can have children. Men on the other hand can feel free to procreate until they die.
Sweet, are there any good providers of email services located in Ohio? I smell a home business here: I get spam mail, track people down here in the US, and extort money from them so I don't turn them in for spamming me.....
It looks like people like Christopher Reeve are walking again
Wow, not only fixing paralysis but raising the dead too? Will the wonders of modern science never cease! Then again, I have seen enough zombie movies to know this can't turn out good in the end...
Maybe some people read the article before posting?
Like most other geeks here, I only read Slashdot for the pictures.

Do you have recommendations for software to do this? I feel safe with the video games (I usually put the CD in myself) but I do worry about DVDs (for some reason, my daughter wants to be the one to put those in, and it is easy to scratch them).
The Long Branch project could cost as little as $10 million for each mile
I wonder how many rickshaw drivers+cabs you could import for that much money?
New Jersey lawmakers are debating whether to spend $75,000 to study the Long Branch project.
That seems like a piddly amount to invest in what could be a groundbreaking public transit system. Frankly I am amazed at how little this amount is, considering we are looking at tens of millions of dollars that would be spent on said public transport system in a state that spends billions per year on transportation in general.
Never fear, there is always time to post when a new article pops up! So just plan on refreshing the front page every second for the next few hours and you should get a head start over everyone else except the few hundred people doing the same thing.
Do you have any our sources of info like the url you linked? I recall an article about this somewhere, but I can't find it. I am sure that is why the successful CG so far (shrek, incredibles, monsters) have characters that are obviously "cartoonish", otherwise they would enter the creepy zone.
Err, how about Dinosaur? The effects were done by Disney, totally CG (friend of a friend worked on it). Story was so-so but I thought the CG was good (ok lemurs and dinosaurs co-existing was stupid but eh). That said, Pixar is being sucked dry by Disney, and I am sadsadsad that Disney will probably be involved in any additional Incredibles sequel.
I wonder how many people they have running around replacing failed disks in the arrays. It would have to be at least several full-time jobs worth of people, not to mention they must have a gigantic pile of disks waiting on-site.
Imagine what evil could be done with this data: how about a service where you can track your spouse's/SO's buying habits? See if they buy condoms and flowers every night they work late for example. Imagine what would happen if they started keeping track of fingerprint data off of cash/checks that people use in stores too. Well I am off to go buy some tin foil now (with cash, wearing gloves):-)
With the old orig. rubiks cubes you could pop off the white center cube's face to find a screw behind it. This made taking it apart/putting it back together much easier. Sadly the new ones don't seem to have this feature:-(

Or is this just Apple's way of taking over everything that start with the letter I? Ipod, Imac, IBM.....

I picture the camera rotating so fast it turns to butter as all the idiots fire their guns up in the air on new years eve.

Now all we have to do is get all the spammers to move to Ohio and we are set.
Do you use pepper spray, tear gas, or mace on people you meet on the street who call you Wesley Crusher?

I thought Intel changed the name to Itankium after the last sales figures were announced?

Turning a bolt for 17 years? How big is this bolt anyway? And wouldn't that tend to slow down the rest of the assembly line?

Err, sorry to reply to my own post, but the critters were totally CG, while the backgrounds were real. Doh.

Heck just the duplicates of porn alone seems like it would be way beyond 600 terabytes.
