You are assuming the rack of glow lights has the ability to identify itself to the smart meter. Legacy devices will never register. Their usage can be metered, but the sum aggregate of the legacy devices will be indistinguishable from 1 big device or one hundred small ones.
Push comes to shove I have enough electrical know how to open simple devices and cut out the 'smart' circuit. Things like TV's might be able to require a signal from the smart device to operate but who cares how long the tv is on for?
Any device pulling power for an activity criminal in nature can be easily bypassed, and you can't make the legacy devices illegal to prevent them from getting on the 'smart grid'.
Let's hope that JAXA is not put off trying other missions of this type...they deserve our support.
Why? If it was one or two component failures or a bad situation, that would be one thing- but virtually every system malfunctioned or never worked in the first place.
There is little to account for that except gross incompetence, and people who are grossly incompetent deserve to be fired, not "supported"- or at the very least, not given the same job again.
Further Above:
The collection of samples was a bonus. The actual purpose of the mission was to test the ion-drive, which was fully successful as they ran for more than 1000 hours.
See here for the mission milestones -- note that all the things above 100 points are a bonus.
I would call the probe a raging success.
Getting there was much more of a feat than what was planned to happen once it arrived. The EVA thing has been done before.
Ok that's it. Starting now, anyone else who posts a "Just don't... that way" gets modded redundant. Seriously. It's over. And not just in this thread. Forever. Obviously, since I've already posted, someone else will have to do my dirty work this time...
Of course the solution is to take more pictures of trains so that feeling goes away. But that just increases the odds I'll get some attention from the police over it.
Everyone needs to do just this. Not just for rail but every stinking thing until people get used to it again.
It stuck in my head that we need to have hundreds of airliners orbit New York at low altitude the first time everyone ran from Air Force One like frightened mindless children. I was ashamed to be an American that day. Truly shamed and embarrassed.
The levels of paranoia are getting truly absurd. There was Terrorism in the 70's, the 80's, and the 90's but here comes the new millennia and everyone just turns their brains off and those that don't get punished for it.
Christianity is grossly misrepresented by the majority of the bible thumpers that have made themselves more visible by their extremism. Hate in any fashion was never preached by Jesus.
Those that vilify buggery and discriminate against those unaligned with their gender are not to be considered Christian.
Or, the polling could be dead accurate, and the election results that are not correct.
Given todays political climate, it wouldn't be too big a stretch to see our 'politicians' rigging results. How many people have been asked outside the polling offices, who they voted for? How was that tracked? It would be interesting to know.
Then Management can *Gasp* Do it's *JOB*! Can you Imagine that?
Management actually Managing? Seriously, We had HR here and now it's gone. That chunk of money went to hiring an employee contributing to the bottom line, and we haven't looked back.
If we have questions about Legality the Lawyers take care of that.
You saying an HR person is an educated Lawyer? Check again.
My Wet dream is to become CEO of a large corporation and immediately give all of HR the pink slip.
Seriously, I fantasize about this. For most companies this would be an immediate jump to the black.
My biggest beef with HR? Refusing to consider anyone that doesn't posses a degree that basically proves they acquired a certain level of book knowledge while marinating their brain in the toxic waste of micro-organisms ( yeast ) . They have No real operative knowledge on what the position requires hiring by alphabet soup and degree instead. They are lazy lazy people contributing jack squat to the bottom line.
I plan on keeping an XP kit handy with all the best versions of software I like to use with a personal firewall that prevents software from calling home. I will stop using XP when it becomes more expensive to fix the hardware XP likes to run on.
I refuse to pay for new hardware when what I have runs perfectly fine.
By not having a phone, or a TV. Instant messages can be ignored. If it's a bill it can come via Snail Mail, and email is checked once when I get home, and then again right before I go to bed.
The problem is, as previously stated, our reaction to the interception. We do have a cell phone, but I can count the number of people that have the number on one hand. Even then, it's for emergencies and checking on children.
And seriously, there's no point in risking your life, or anyone elses for that matter, trying to call your Boss on the cell while driving to tell them you're going to be 5 minutes late. We dealt with no cell phones or instant contact before cell phones. Try to remember what that was like, and lets get back there again. Buggers can wait!

Good luck with this one.

It's more likely that our ability to measure has improved.
You're conclusions are only going to be as accurate as your ability to weigh, or measure.

Bottled Water anyone?
How much water is used to make soda ? beer ? Juice ?
Will water move through beef or other imported vegetables and be tested in our urine?
There are too many disparate sources for water or "Second Hand Water" for this to ever hold up in court. I hope.
