At least with iTunes once you've bought a track, you've paid for it. Who really cares what you do with it after. Everyone is getting their slice of the action.
The subscription model, once "cracked" means you can download as much as you want, remove the DRM and then download some more. All for $15/month (or whatever they're charging). The RIAA misses out on their cut... no doubt making their blood boil
As soon as iTunes for Windows came out, i thought, Apple has almost got me. PearPC, no matter how slow, still let me have a bit of a play. And i liked it.
Then they brought out their iMac. Dear lord. I visit the apple website at least once a week trying to convince myself that i need one.
Unfortunately my PC still works pretty well for my current needs. As soon as it's no longer doing that, I'm off to apple land...
Hell i have an XBox so i could care less about gaming on the PC. Plus i can do that on the couch in front of my big screen tv with DD5.1.
I wonder how much longer i'm going to have to wait for this thing to run out of steam, hopefully sooner than later...
For those of us who have missed out on the iTMS this time round (namely us poor Aussies) we also miss out on the bonus bit that come with the U2 iPod. The bit that all the coutries with an iTMS get
$50 off The Complete U2
An iTunes exclusive: More than 400 tracks spanning the band's career. Get every album plus 25 rare and unreleased songs -- all in one digital box set.
For our trouble we get to pay $569 (approx US$425). The joys of living in a small market.
It's getting old... just like Lucas' beard... I wonder if he was born with it...
But seriously, he did a couple of good things.
- Gave us Indy and Young Indy and palmed it off to Spielberg to do something good with. - Gave us Pixar and sold that off, which eventually ended up with Mr Jobs and a fantastic little animation movie studio.
Notice how everything he gets rid of turns to Gold
That he dropped the RIAA an email.

There is a brilliant Dilbert on this subject already :)
... who subcontracted it to us.
http://moor.ws/comics/Dilbert/2003.08.03.jpg
Dilbert: I have some disturbing news
Dilbert: We outsourced our customer-service function to India a few years ago
PHB: So?
Dilbert: Apparently, they subcontracted the job to Mexico
Dilbert: Then Mexico subcontracted to Vietnam, who subcontracted to the Philippines....
Dilbert:
Dilbert: It turns out that we're the lowest cost provider, because we lie about our hold times.
Dilbert: In summary, we pay ourselves to hose ourselves
Dilbert: Are you thinking what I'm thinking?
PHB: We should raise our prices?

No i believe you're thinking of http://headjob.apple.com . After all, he is CEO...
We've taken a previous posters advice and taken our arses outside into the nice warm summer sun...
I wonder if the 24th will be our BEST day, everything here is the opposite :)

You're not old enough then :)
Back in the day, Qantas had the Captain Cook Lounge on the upper deck of it's 747's. I'm sure all slashdotters can use google to find images...
In fact, Qantas have a self-service bar in Business class now. Not quite what you're talking about, but a bar none the less
- Rob
or should that be, BUILD your own goddamn keyboard and mouse...
- RobOr perhaps a link to dialer.exe
Wonder how many people would fall for that old one

lending dvd's to your buddies? Nobody gets any $$ out of it and it seems to be legitimate... (can anyone remember Divx, the other format)
Provided people aren't selling copies of movies, i can't see the big deal, provided the film is on legit release on dvd, hadicams suck.

If fire can't kill an iPod i can't see how these will....
