September 8th of next year the world will end, and I know the time. Luckly I plan on sleeping through it. I mean it will only last for a 10 ten of a second but I will still be waiting for that exact moment in time. It I wasn't an American I would be excited by August 9th that I for the rest of the world.
The article makes is sound like it was Steve himself that pulled the trigger. While he may be the noteworthly public face this sounds more like a high level manangement or accounting decision on not something that would have needed Jobs personal attention. When you get to that level you higher good people, pay them well, and then expect them to do their job and make you more money.
Just My.02
Having been a High School Math Teacher and leaving the profession I would say that we worry too much about how the kids tender image will fair if we give them an F. No lie that in one staff meeting another teacher actually said, "Who am I to fail a kid?" You are their teacher and the only person who really has the knowledge to make the judgement about their competence and level of effort.
We should hold kids accountable for their actions or lack of action as the case may be. Further, and this would get me shot by my former teacher friends, we need to hold the schools, teachers and administators accountable for failing to produce graduates that are ready for the next steps in life.
Not everyone will be rocket scientist, or even go the college right away but as caddie shack would teach us "the world needs ditch diggers too." When kids are no longer entitled to a good education but accountable to make the most of opportunites given the system will improve dramaticly.
Anyone remember when getting a A actually took some work on the part of the student and not just showing up?
Saddly this is a move more in society than directly in the educational system itself.
Most people have a basement. If you invested in a few more Garbage cans of water you could effectively reuse the water by dumping into an empty can in the basement. With a little bit of elbow greese you could use a pump to refill the bucket upstairs in your room. If you could do this with say 6 cans of water that would effectively give you 18 hours of cooling. By the next morning the water would be back to a 55 - 60 Degree water and you could start the process a new. You would probably want to invest in some bleach as well to prevent critters from a growin'.
Rumor has it that idea of file location may be a thing of the past. I checked out some of the promo videos and propaganda that is surrounding Longhorn and it looks like they are moving to ways to help you find it regardless of who has it or where it is stored.
Check out http://msdn.microsoft.com/Longhorn/productinfo/con ceptvid/default.aspx">http://msdn.microsoft.com/Lo nghorn/productinfo/conceptvid/default.aspx for more info. The higher education video talks particularly about the sharing of resources and leveraging your social network for information. I know that these are only concept videos but if they can pull it off it may be a step in right direction.
Honestly I don't care where or how content is stored if I can get at it and use it quickly and easily. Sadly up to this point I haven't been able to access and use information quickly so currently I do care where and how it is stored.
If they get it right where it is stored wont matter if you can use it whenever you want the way you want.
Good home or not selling a person for things that will be discarded or replaced in 6-12 months is deplorable. I hope it is a joke, because if not as a society we just degrated another level.
I believe that this could be a great thing, but do we need implants? Why can't we refine brain wave scanning? In the future, how will we power these systems? I don't want people to open my skull every two years to change my battery!
A nural net or something that rests on the scalp would be a less invasive and possibly better solution.
Some who knows more about this than me please comment.
I can see how this a user based system instead of conent based system, but how is the end result any different than google ad sense. Selective and refined placement of things I may want.
In the execution of the process may be where we all start to hate it! Google ads are generally simple text and non-obtrousive to what I really trying to do on the site. I doubt that microsoft will be so kind in their positioning and placement.
My problem, and possibly others problem is not how the ads are selected, but how they are presented.
I knew who my enemy was so to speak. Now we are fighting an unknown evil. Do you really think that FBI and NSA and giving up on snooping in the digitial age?
The thought that someone might be able to link me back the county singer websites I visit a work is scary. I need my anomity!
Take whatever computer you like and drill a hole through your wall. Use flexable dryer vent and seal the case. Buy and old keyboard, cheap monitor, internal wireless card and you should be set.
You can make your holes (in and out) not look bad. Think about the dryer vent covers or use your wall cavity and vent into the attic. If you really want to make sure that it works buy a good bathroom vent fan and tie it in.
Wait a minute I like this idea. I will add a relay switch to it so I don't even have to turn the fan on and use this idea in my shed.
More than likely no money in it for you since they are all under funded, but I am guessing that they have a wealth of work that could be handled with people of your skill set.
Even if you are only doing and indepth security audit and then making recommendations. Run a few interviews, bill your self as a consultant if you need more hours do in in more than one school or school district!
I am a Grad Student at Penn State Univerity Park (Main Campus) and we get pretty good deals on microsoft products. As an example xp pro for $35 and Office 2003 Pro for about the same.
I was to take a crack at the fall out, it will be that my cheap and legal software source is about to wither and die. I am all for legal software but at 300+ bucks a pop my budget couldn't afford that.
Since in started at PSU I have forked over the bones like a good consumer and gone legal for all software on my rig. Why becuase it was at a pricepoint where I could afford!
If that changes than sadly so may the legality of my machine:(
I am a Ph.D. candidtate and they are still inept. But some stroke of Genius they figured that if people had less problems they wouldn't get as many calls. After this was achieved. A student probably said something like... well I was having problems all the time and calling you like 3 times a weeks to fix my computer. But after one of my IM buddies told me to download Firefox I haven't had any problems.
Good I have been looking for a cheap file server and since I don't have time to play my XBOX much anymore it can do the job.
Suppose I switch between XBOX gaming and file serving?
What's under the hood?

I think he used a unifed shoe string theory for that solution.

I just blame it on the ether-bunny.
You say want to remove any and all religion from school, and yet it would take a miracle to make your list happen.
You know their motto ... it is the "Show Me" state!
P.S. Can I come over and have a sip of one of your 1000 dollar beers I bet they taste a lot better than the $14 a case stuff my budget can afford.

When this fails MS plans on buying Adobe which just purchased Macromedia for a clean sweep and true monopoly. -1 for flamebait anticipated by author
