It's been ages since I listened to Elton John, but I do like him. My point is, why are we giving this any time of day just because he's a celebrity? He has absolutely no power or authority over the internet. Nothing he says or does will likely cause a 'shutdown' of the internet. These are the same people that whine about hwo much Paris Hilton is in the news because she's famous, and they do the same thing with something like this.
When I first read that comment (was it on digg or fark), I knew people were gonna make a big deal about this. It's been taken way, way out of proportion. He was talking in a 'wouldn't it be nice' sort of way, the kind of way you say "ahh, those were the good old days". It's not like he's running any campaign to shut down the internet, or pushing for it in any shape, way or form. Sometimes, net sites are just like the media, looking for stories where there are none (re: paris hilton).
Not with Dell, but I at least on a couple of occasions have received notices where I've been overcharged due to a mistake, and been issued a refund. Without even me being aware of the fact that I was overcharged in the first place.
My guess is, SK is doing the whole 'ask for more than you want' thing. If they only ask for a refund and to nullify the contract (which is what they really want, so they can release Too Human), they might not get it.
The issue I have with Linux distros is how some just seem utterly pointless. I've read earlier on downloadsquad about an upcoming linux distro, based on ubuntu, that will come packaged with all the software suites that you would need for video editing pre-installed.
Why? Why not just release an installer package for ubuntu that bundles all the video-editing like suites you wanna include in that distro? Why force people interested in that sort of software either look for the individual programs themself (which defeats the problem you are trying to fix) or reinstall their OS? It doesn't make sense.
This has nothing to do with IE and everything to do with Firefox on windows. Firefox itself registers the "firefoxurl" URI in the Windows Registry, meaning that any application that renders HTML (ie, such as Opera) will popup FIrefox when that handler is invoked.
Apple could have dropped that visual voicemail feature, which is a far better alternative than being tethered to AT&T. Not to mention opens up the market to any provider that uses GSM (ie, most of the world). At this point, to sell iPhones in the middle east, Apple would have to make an agreement with each provider (and trust me, they'd wanna sell iPhones down there. Especially in the gulf countries, those guys change phones every 6 months to stay 'hip'. Cash cow.).
Wow. Your basing your whole belief on Canadians not being any better at geography than Americans by the fact that your aunt couldn't tell how far apart two cities in a single state are? The stereotype about Americans not being good about Geography comes from when they think places like Kuwait are in Texas or can't point to England on the map, not about knowledge of specific cities within a country.
That is due to an (admittedly annoying) bug in XP. When you browse to a folder with videos in explorer, it tries to generate thumbnails for them. Sometimes XP gets stuck on corrupt/slightly broken AVIs, and continues to try to generate a thumbnail keeping the file in use. You can disable thumbnail view from Tools --> Folder Options --> View --> Always show icons, not thumbnails. That last bit might be different on XP since I'm on Vista (it seems to work fine on Vista), but there should be a similar option.
So you never have the radio on? Or talk to a passenger in your car? Because the parents was specifically griping about the lack of hands-free features.
Yes, you are. The DRM'd content is for licensed TV shows from studios. It will be available only for a week after the original episode has aired, so people can catch up in case they missed it on TV. This way people can continue to watch the rest of the season if they missed an episode, and the content producers can still sell it on DVDs to make more money off their content.
Their software does run properly on Vista. You can easily turn off Vista's indexing search. It's a simple service you turn off, and any installer would be able to do it. Once it's turned off, there's no indexing done by Vista. What they're whining about is the fact that when you do turn off the indexing, instead of Google being able to use the default windows search field for GDS, that one goes back to the old-style non-indexed search. You can't expect to use part of the built-in OS UI for your own application, just as you can't expect Microsoft to suddenly allow applications to replace the functionality of the start button. Put a search bar in the taskbar, or in the systray that pops up with one click.
For web browsers: I can install Opera, Firefox and now even Safari on Vista. Opera happens to be my favourite.
For media players: I can install Winamp, iTunes, Zoom Player and many other players. I happen to prefer Media Player.
For search utilities: I can install Google DS, Copernic. I happen to use none of them (including the built-in).
For antivirus: I can install AVG, Nod 32, Norton, etc. I happen to use AVG.
Remind me again how MS has actively blocked other companies from writing software that competes with their own? They haven't? Oh...so Google's just being a whiny little bitch here? Thought so.
Does it matter? It's fun, and we should encourage that. More 'marketing campaigns' should be fun this way. To me, it sounds like a gift to the people who love the Halo serious, plus it definitely builds up excitement.
You say that as if Sony is a teensy weensy company. Except for the fact that Sony is also one of the largest media congolmerates, and according to wikipedia it's annual profit is greater than Microsoft's.
Aunt Tillie wouldn't be running XP under VMware. Try running windows on a proper machine, install said patch, and see if you get that error message, THEN you can be all high and mighty.
Since XP, BSOD have only occured when something gets fucked hard-ware wise, or you have some horrendously written drivers *coughcreativecough*.

That game sounds like all kinds of awesome, and I hate American football.
It took me a while to get that...I think my brain has become numbed to the wii Wii jokes...

One of my favourite stories by far!
And figured out how to milk it, and it's customers, most effectively!

Apple borrows. Microsoft copies, eh?

MSN has added support for offline messaging since version 8, released pretty much this time last year. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_Live_Messenge r#Final_Version_of_8.0

No. What he admitted was that he was not as good as Jobs at making cool user interfaces. There's a slight difference there.
Correction: 90% of movies suck.
