    by far one of the best toys to come out. the lego stores they have now would have made my parents go broke :o

    it is a lot harder to change around cell technologies due to how spread out the US is, Japan you have a dense packed population.

    if we were all packed into rhode island you would see some awesome technology becuase updating the infrastrucutre would take no time at all.

    of course they are making it difficult for them. why? well if the RIAA was taken out of the picture, how would they get there money?

    there are several faces to this whole problem, the riaa wants to keep their monopoly on the music industry, the best way to do that: hamper arts doing it on there own, the only way to "make it big" is through them.

    it is hard for IT people to see the benifits but if you are the company, you want to make money.

    But offshoring does have major drawbacks. I think you are starting to see the threshold of what people are willing to take with offshored call centers. personally i hate calling Compaq and taking to someone in India. I am not trying to be rude but I can't understand them, and it bothers me.

    I think you are going to see people in India, ect pushing for higher prices of pay in a few years, you can only pay them pennies for so long before they realize they can earn more, or until they start to become entrepreneurs themsevles, then what will you have on your hands?

    also i do thing you will see American companies step out of outsourcing a bit, why? people again are getting annoyed with calling a call center and not talking to someone htey can understand. Customer service is king and people will be willing to pay more for.

    Yes there should be a good amount of open source, but on the opposite side, there should be a good amount of closed source.

    i think you can find a good balance between the two. perhaps software companies should be allowing rpogrammers to work on projects such as google does, contribute to a "better software world"

    Hopefully their government will start to push for standards from companies that come and park in their counrty. I hope mexico sees this also as we are using them as whores for producing materials.

    All we can do is hope that they take this tragedy and move towards standards of business and living that will move them towards a better life style.

    this is what pisses me off about /., all of you seem to think patents are all evil.

    what do yo uthink drives innovation? money. people could care less about everything else. you can't eat without money, you can't survive. i don't understand this communist crap that constantly is spewed out.

    someone invented something compeletly new, they probably spend a good chunk of change to develop it, to get it to market, why can't they make a buck off of it.

    total agreement. when my g/f got her new laptop, i formatted it one of the first things i installed was FF, why? so i would have less to clean up with down the road.

    well i mean if you go to podunk community college, then year it may. but any major college, you will be fine.

    i had one of the worst graduating GPA's in my CS class, but i managed to get one of the best jobs out of college. why? becuase of what i knew and what i did on my own time.

    college simply teaches you how to teach yourself. if you are basing how you will do off how you do in class, then you are in for a suprise.

    if you can teach yourself the new technologies and get your name out there somehow, you will be set.

    but then again i am planning on getting out of the tech field in 2 years so take it for what it is worth.

    Why not go after the people that use spam to advertise? I would think if you took out the incentive to use spam to get your name out, then you would take away spammers. most spam i get is for US based companies.

    i just think dismissing "free" work as "amateur" is just incorrect. i consider gain helping my friends do things worth while. i think "amateur" is more or less doign something for yourself and not helping others. but then again that is me

    Seeing people complaining about companies that go after those who pirate software. yet when stories of EA employees being "explotited" bloody murder is claimed.

    i don't think anyone at slashdot realizes how much money it takes to pay those programmers. if everyone purchased the copies they play with i am sure EA employees wouldn't bitch about not getting compenstated enough.

    Yet the government continues to allow monopolies like Comcast and the local phone companies to take over areas and hog the available broadband transmission mediums. How are we supposed to compete with other countries when individual businesses don't have to compete with themselves because of government sponsored monopolies?

    i totally agree with you on this point. whenever i came home from college, my house was in this zone that was this po-dunk cable company. the were about the size of 1/2 our county and provided NO extra services.

    so i was stuck with aol dialup :ugh:

    but i see broadband becoming bigger, esp w/ the outlook of it going over powerlines. but then again, i am sure comcast would fight that to the death

    They will be the cash cow in 10 years, i am starting to pickup chinese while i am starting to prepare for IP Law. i think it will be benificial to have that skill.
