Seriously, how can you get away with saying something like this. Try talking to a 17 year old American applying to college, now make it so they can only take their SAT's ONCE, then lower the available colleges and acceptance rates, you'd see the same thing in America. "Oh, but it must be because they are Chinese!" I'm surpised someone can get a +4 by making broad generalizations like this. If parent was talking about Linux, the post would be a troll!

Granted, only government funding has been banned but any research scientist can tell you that agencies like the NSF are the primary contributors in scientific endeavors. By cutting off funding, they are essentially killing the field. I think the research universities outnumber the "old, rich" guys who have millions of dollars to throw.

Unfortunately, this country was never designed to be a democracy, no matter what you think you remember from US History class. This country was created by rich white people who thought that it might be a good idea to protect thier own property.

We live in a REPUBLIC. We vote for representitives that vote for "us". Sure, some systems in our goverment are democratic in nature, it doesn't make it a democracy.

I can't just march up to Congress and help change public policy now can I? Is that a democracy?

I don't care about how precisely the government should be run, but I want to have a say when they are doing something that I object to.

I fully appreciate the use of genomics to identify possible illness that I might have in the future, but it should'nt be used by my employer. Just because one has a genetic predisposition for cancer, doesn't mean that one will get cancer in their lifetime. Consider these two people:

Person 1) Genetic predispositon for lung cancer
    Person 2) Perfectly healthly(genetically speaking)

Now the employer would probably hire person #2, soley based on his genetics. However, it could be that person #2 drinks a six pack of beer a day plus two carton of cigarrettes!

My point is my genetic material is my OWN personal information, just like my political affliation, religion or sexual preferencegenetic material. My genetic material should be protected as well.
