It is a problem on x86 with 1 GB max set in the kernel, it is not an issue if you enable HIGHMEM (4 GB memory support) in the kernel. The kernel used was 2.6.10 on Gentoo Linux.
no.
"Some area of memory is reserved for storing several kernel data structures that store information about the memory map and page
tables. This on x86 is 128 MB. Hence, of the 1 GB physical memory the kernel can access, 128MB is reserved. This means that the kernel virtual address in this 128 MB is not mapped to physical memory. This leaves a maximum of 896 MB for ZONE_NORMAL. So, even if one has 1 GB
of physical RAM, just 896 MB will be actually available." - http://kerneltrap.org/node/2450
There is a performance hit with the current implementation going from the 1 GB model to the 4 GB model. This is quite noticeable with 1 GB RAM where the 1 GB model yielding ~900 MB of RAM versus the 4 GB model yielding 1 GB RAM actually gives you better performance.
I live over 700 km from a town of 100+k people, my town having 40k people, and it is located above the artic circle, but still I can pick between ADSL upto 8 Mbit, ADSL 2+ upto 25 Mbit, G.SDSHL upto 4 Mbit (dual line), Cable upto 8 Mbit and so on.. all reasonably priced.
I agree, I started using the taskbar to the right side of the screen back when I got a 22" CRT and realized that when visiting webpages.. it's a lot more efficient to keep the taskbar to the left or right hand side. I use the same approach on XFCE4, Mac OS X as well as Windows.
yeah, I don't have a family to feed either, I can afford some luxury though.
I live in Norway, and I think the scholarships are made so that you should be ok if you lived in Oslo, but I live basically in the middle of nowhere so rent and such is cheaper.
I never understood why people insist on integrated hub/switches on their routers, personally I prefer having a separate router with *ONE* LAN port and a switch that I can replace whenever I want without having to buy a new router.
you forgot to mention KTH from Sweden, the Norwegian University of Science and Technology and Waterloo from Canada and so on... they all got medals, just not the Americans it seems:)
well, in single contests like that, there is always a little luck involved, looking at the times involved, I doubt the Russian team was all that much worse than the Chinese one.
Besides, they did a lot better than MIT & UC Berkeley which ended up on a shared 29th place.
I'm one of those that constantly keep things like this straight.
When someone says "KB" I say "Kelvin bytes?"
it probably drives some people mad, but once people start breaking with standards, all hell is lose.
I doubt it is Windows' fault. It is more the fact that; why would any well educated and experienced computer tech want to become an network admin at a school or university? I know I wouldn't.
in Norway Tele2 has a unlimited calling plan for $10/month over normal POTS, and VoIP is $20/month for unlimited calls within Scandinavia, Western Europe and North America.
True enough, a more "professional" cracker wouldn't make such a mistake, but I could imagine lots of script-kiddies doing it. As for the legal validity of such a search, I don't really feel that it is a sufficiently valid reason to demand such data, even if it could help the search.
Well, I'm pretty sure that if a person downloaded nmap to a compromised host that person most likely visited the nmap website some time. The problem is that a lot of people visit that site, and it is nearly impossible to weed out the false positives from the person they are seeking. Furthermore, the FBI approach would only work if the person visisted the site recently, which might not be the case. It'd be impossible to figure it out if the person last visisted the namp website several months ago forexample.
Nokia is not a Scandinavian country. Nokia is a Finnish company. Finland is not part of Scandinavia, Scandinavia is Norway, Sweden and Denmark. It is a common misinterpretation to consider Scandinavia the same as the "Nordic countries" which include Finland and Iceland. The term "Scandinavian" was created prior to Finland's independence from the Soviet Union.
PCI-E isn't just there for the SLI, it is there to finally replace AGP & PCI. PCI-E has less connectors and is therefore cheaper to manufacture.
PCI-E 1x is much faster than PCI. It's all good.
I didn't see anyone complain when we phased out ISA for PCI, how is this different?
As for some places not even that, here McDonalds would be close to $15 for one meal, and I certainly wouldn't get two trips to the movies, one trip with some snack possibly.:)
No, you'd get the laptop back and the person stealing it would go to jail. In the case of these games, what would you prefer? being banned from playing a few games, or getting into legal proceedings with Valve because you ripped them off?

I live above the artic circle myself, but even though we currently have darkness for 18+ hrs of the day, we don't call 2 pm to 8 am "overnight". We don't use the term "overnight" at all when we have 24/7 sun during summer though.

one word: confusing.
The scary thing is... I didn't even need to look up that ip to know it was google

$36 is about 5% of $741, and $741 isn't all that bad, I live on about $1200 from scholarship over here, and prices are several times as high.

it isn't even in compliance with BSDL, as they do not even acknowledge the people that wrote the code.

considering we have i386,i486,i586,i686, I think it's about time we gave AMD its share of official recognition too.
