Netflix is wonderful.. if you happen to live in the US or, somewhat stangely, Micronesia.. the rest of the world afaik has to make do with local (and vastly inferior) imitations.
Not sure of the worth of disposable dvd's but then again they tend to get scratched and unplayable before too long anyway.. at least they do when I let the wife get near 'em!;)
Lots more you can find on http://tucows.com/ or your favourite software download site..
I have close to a hundred logins stored (encrypted) and gave up trying to remember them all a long time ago.. its really not an issue with such a program. Just make sure to keep a backup somewhere or you are screwed when your pc dies..;)
though carbon nanotubes are still in their infancy (its been a little around ten years since they were discovered)
Just curious (I am *not* a scientist!) but since carbon nanotubes are a recent discovery, isn't there a pretty good a chance that some stronger/more suitable material will be discovered sooner or later also? Maybe carbon nanotubes are not really upto the task but something else will be..
With the level of support sent by the US to disasters around the world (like the Boxing Day Tsunami), I wonder if the rest of the world is trying to help the US now?
Well I have heard reports of aid being offered by many countries from sri lanka to israel, the uk and others.. some of that will no doubt be largely symbolic but still they were made..
What I haven't heard is if the US has accepted any of those offers or if any of it arrived in the area yet.
"Germany, France, Russia, Japan, Honduras and Sri Lanka are among countries that said they would send aid. A special United Nations task force is ready to help also, the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs said.
Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, a target of criticism by the U.S., offered $1 million to the Red Cross through Citgo, the U.S. subsidiary of the country's national oil company. Cuba's President Fidel Castro offered to send 1,100 doctors and 26 tons of medicine to the U.S. Gulf Coast areas stricken by Hurricane Katrina, CNN reported last night."

When millions of people from around the world with a multitude of languages and dialects all converge online and have to communicate its only a matter of time before we all pick up 'bad habits'..
General slang, localised slang, americanisms, net specific terms, tech slang, typos (in hurry to send that 'instant message'), abbreviations, slashdotisms;) , mispellings and grammatical errors made by non native english speakers that gradually make their way into mainstream use..
Personally I find that my english has deteriorated drastically over the last few years.. I often can no longer remember the difference between uk english and american english for example (I am from uk), I am forever making typos simply because I am in a hurry, working on 20 different windows trying to keep track of so many different things and often keeping many completely unrelated conversations running simultaneously..
Such is life on the intarweb these days..;)
Perhaps its a bad thing for language purists but in a way its a kind of language evolution.. not the first time in history but I suppose its happening much faster and on a global scale this time.
Amazon is the only company I've dealt with over the past few years that has made me feel like a human instead of a problem.
Have to agree.. just as a buyer I have found their customer support to be second to none. Any time I have had a problem they have fixed it instantly - even if they lose money as a result, for example by sending replacement products out (internationally) which they have done for me several times.
They are the only online retailer that I really trust.. they've earned it.
There's loads of 'authentic shaolin' schools in the area and for less than $740.. tagou is a vast place and not the cheapest by far.. its also not actually the temple.. just a school nearby, one of dozens.
It is possible to find a monk in the temple to teach you if you have the money and are able to haggle in chinese since nobody speaks english.. but there's no guarantee you will find a monk that is any good or even if he is good, who will teach you 'the good shit'.
There are some good schools around though with top notch warrior monks and coaches and can be had for $500/month or less depending on how grim the conditions.
Unforutunately most westerners would probably die from dysentery long before becoming l33t shaolin masters or superheros..
In the med.. no wireless but the local telco hooked up my phone and adsl within 24 hours and I had a sea view from my balcony.. was cool for a while until winter arrived and the tourists left.. then island life gets very dull.. everything closes, the weather sucks (relatively), no naked babes on the beach (excluding the 70+ retired crowd but some things are best avoided), there's nothing on tv, and you start to feel very remote..
for whatever trendy protest movement of the day doesn't pay the rent.. dudes gotta make a living... its tough to be a 90 million record selling singer/songwriter these days!;)
Its a bit odd that zooming in on the middle east shows gaza strip and west bank with no israel (label) at all.. until you zoom in a few levels further.. last I checked israel was a) quite a bit bigger than gaza and b) a country, which gaza isn't (yet).
is that spock.. I mean nimoy, actually looks like a vulcan anyway!
But seriously.. afaik spock has only ever been played by nimoy and so he will always be identifed with that character.. whereas the good doctor has changed many times so nobody is really typecast as dr who..
well except for tom baker..;)
But even more seriously - any actor who fears being typecast I think is more concerned (perhaps with good reason) with his/her ability to pull off a roll convincingly.. so its really down to self-confidence and/or acting ability.
if you live in Israel and a Jew, you will end up in the army
Actually you don't have to be jewish to get drafted into the israeli army, you just have to be an israeli citizen.. there are in fact besides jews also arabs, druze, bedouin, moslems, christians and even vietnamese in the israeli army!
You read in a public bulletin board detailed instructions for robbing a bank by typing in an unpublished keycode into an ATM machine and you get arrested??? No F'n WAY!!!!
Not really the same since they were accessing their OWN accounts viewing information posted ABOUT THEM which I would think they are ENTITLED to know.. after all it is about them.. in fact afaik there are laws (at least in some countries) that ensure that you are entitled to know what info any organization/company has about you on their computer systems..
They did not steal anything, certainly not from a bank.. they simply accessed info posted about them, by harvard, on a page that they had access to since they were already provided with logins..
Besides which these people will probably do well in business since they are prepared to 'go the extra mile' or 'take a risk' to get results..;)

Umm.. that didn't come out right.. *the bbc* over a barrel.. ;)
But for foto blogging since yahoo bought flickr, google should buy fotopages.com which is a nice system.
They are just paying some of the local kids to keep an eye on the chopper while they go for a beer otherwise some rascal would half inch it..
