I find it a great way to unwind whenever there are too many bugs buzzing around my place I reach for the badminton racquet and go on a genocidal bug swatting rampage through the house.. its great fun and solves the bug problem for a while.. side effects include getting a good workout and having to buy more lightbulbs..
The easiest way to install s/w on Solaris/OpenSolaris is using blastwave (www.blastwave.org) - for example, installing the entire KDE stack is done by:-
pkg-get -i kde
Simple enough?:-)
Nice! Will have to give solaris a try now. Thanks.
Currently using rhel (centos) on all servers but wondering if solaris10 is worth a look now.. is it fairly easy to admin? Is there an easy way to install and upgrade stuff along with a plentiful supply of the usual suspects to install?
Most times these days on centos I only have to run 'yum update' 'yum install blah' or 'cpan -i blah' with very occasionally having to do it manually or mess about a bit to get things working.. is it as trivial with solaris now or would I be spending twice as much time configuring and looking after the servers?
Probably safer to stick with what I (sort of) know but just curious about solaris.. last I used it was 7 or 8 years ago I think.
I've been running centos4 (4.2 now) on my desktop for ages and its a breeze to install and configure.. a recent disk failure forced me to reinstall again and unsurpisingly it was still flawless.
Only downside was the ugly fonts but thats very easily fixed after a visit to TLDP Font-HOWTO
Day to day use is great.. never any problems, never any time 'wasted' configuring anything.. everything 'just works' - its almost like windows!;)
I also have it running on an old toshiba laptop.
Everyone raves about ubuntu (perhaps rightly) but I had no luck with it as it refused to install on my desktop or laptop although maybe the new version would.
Just tried to create my own item type with it and entered a few random chars for the name.. 'sdfgsd' and it was rejected with 'misspelled: sdfgsd'
So I tried again with another set of random chars with the same result.. so I thought wtf?! Its my item, I decide what it is called and how it should be spelled!
So for fun I tried again with 'wtf' and strangely it was accepted and I was presented with a new screen titled 'wtf - edit item'
'lol' is also accepted by 'lmao' is not..
Well thats the extent of my scientific research so far on this issue.
If the cow is stood on wet/slippy ground (often the case in my experience) a cow can be tipped with the combined might of one finger.. or even just a strong wind or loud noise.. like a nearby cow farting which creates both conditions..;)
Even in better ground conditions you could push very hard on one side which causes the cow to lean/push back and then suddenly remove the force and watch the unfortunate creature flip itself.. just get out of the way or you will be remembered as the guy killed when a cow fell on him.
I already monitor keyword searches of such sites as Technorati, Google Blog Search, IceRocket, and BlogPulse
Add boardtracker to your arsenal - it scans forums and can send you alerts by email and jabber based on your keywords and also has rss feeds of course.
How does this gadget recognize if a cow has an infection? When a human is doing the job you check each udder first to make sure there is no nasty cheesy gunk in the milk.. can this machine recognize the same stuff? Wouldn't like that in my coffee..
Also if a cow is currently being treated with antibiotics (or some other drug) does the machine know this and throw the milk after milking it? Since milk laced with antibiotics is not fit for human consumption.. I presume in this case it can since it says the cow is identified it should be easy enough.
It makes possible digital wiretaps, a capability that carriers are required by law to have. However, these positive applications for Narus's software may not be enough to make Internet users warm to its use.
Wiretaps are a positive feature for users? No doubt governments/law enforcement get very warm and tingly over wiretaps but I can't see users warming to it quite so much.
Now spyware on the other hand, thats something that really does get users hot and bothered!;)

But still a nerd with no sex life. (presumably)
"Gaming is so much fun and so relaxing," he said. "I don't see why anyone would want to stop playing."
Yep, no sex life is confirmed..
Yes I am still very jealous ;)
Don't want to be tracked? Just switch your phone off while you are driving.. safer for everyone on the road anyway..
Same mice talk smack about busting a cap in duke nukems ass.
pkg-get -i kde

Just drink Green Tea and you will live longer.. or not..
damn.. I misspelled my random chars.. 'sdfgsd' does work 'adfgsd' doesnt.. where is the sense in this?

Yes life on the farm is quite dull sometimes..

boardtracker.com already does all the scanning, alerts and search etc. for forums very nicely.

Wake me when they invent the safe joint, mkay? You know the one you don't get busted for smoking..
But seriously.. if its legit it could be a really useful system that does fill a need.

The jelly babies agenda was particularly insidious.. not to mention that whole scarf thing tom baker had going on.. downright subversive!
Anyone on Cannabinoids apparently.. ;)
