Bought it a few years ago. It was only on the market for a few months it seems, replaced by the 1600. The 1600 uses cartridges that are like $15-20; the 1500 cartridges consistently cost $8 or less. So I see why they discontinued the 1500. If you can find one, snag one!

Safari for Windows also introduces Windows users to how Macs render fonts, rather than using Windows' font rendering engine. This, of course, could be good or bad. For me the blurred edges are a little annoying. I expect fonts to appear in Windows apps in a certain way, just as I have display expectations for when using apps on the Mac. But putting a Mac font rendering engine on Windows?...bleh.
I just snagged a Canon ip1500 for $45 at Circuit City. What I thought was most interesting was that the printer head itself came in a separate anti-static bag, just like the ink. I snapped both into place and viola, cheap printing (it's actually surprisingly good.)
So next time printing starts crapping out, just slap in a new print head. Of course this may cost more than the printer itself...
I agree. It's instant detection and installation of those add-ons (sound card, video card) that the Ubuntu dev folks must concentrate on. These device vendors have focused solely (or at least mostly) on Windows compatibility due to the absolute necessity of having that "Windows" sticker on their box in order to get product on and off the shelf.
Now that Ubuntu will help bring Linux mainstream, and people that run linux will actually start buying products for their Linux PC rather than hacking things together, well, another market is opening up, and hopefully another sticker will start appearing on product boxes: "Ubuntu Tested"!
What gets me is that folks think a PC is a toaster. A toaster doesn't use an operating system, which is constantly updated, changes, bombarded by security threats, etc.
Folks have 3 options:
Learn how to care for your PC
Pay $$$ to have someone take care of your PC
Don't get a PC
A PC for under $300? You can't get something for (next to) nothing.

Dunno...some companies focus on quality and reputation, others bombard the Best Buy shelves with bloatware. Since MS dominates I guess there's a sad lesson to be learned...?
Ubuntu is another great Debian distro. I switch between this and Mac OS X. The Mac is much prettier to look at, no question, and all devices work out of the box, no question (they develop the box and the OS.) With Ubuntu, I like the cost (free) and that I feel I truly "0wn" my PC. But it does take a couple weeks of tweaking to get it running at the same level of compatibility as my Mac.
Given my recent iBook horrors lately (loose video chip) I don't know if I'll ever plonk down premium $$$ for Mac hardware, given "you get what you pay for" doesn't necessarily apply to Apple hardware anymore. Instead, I may from now on just get a barebones AMD or Intel and slap a pretty Debian distro on it.
Great book: Cuckoo's Egg, ISBN: 0743411463. New version coming out Sept 2005. First detailed account of gov't hacker back in good ol late 80's/UNIX days.
Ok, run a server w/o any fault-tolerance. The server fails, restore from backup, or just rebuild it over the weekend. Worst case: get fired. But *breathe* without fault tolerance...? Down here on Earth we have paramedics w/ O2 tanks. Up there they have a big box of nuthin if their primary fails.
That's great...kids can get in. But I have to sit there watching arms getting ripped off w/ my 7 y.o. I'm not for censoring, my favorite game is UT 2004 (which I let the kids play w/ me sometimes), but does the envelope always have to be pushed? I don't mean to sound like Tipper or anything, but can't a story be told without going full gore? At least let people use imagination a little more versus CGI-ing every friggin thing.
This movie is marketed towards kids...a little responsiblity someone...anyone...Buehller...?
Here's the thing...as an adult, yes, I prefer the gritty/dark sci-fi (read: BSG.) But Star Wars? Get kind of a creepy feeling, watching a film that appeals to my more mature dark side that is part of a series from my childhood. I have to emotionally transition from 7 to mid-30's somehow while watching a movie? Just doesn't jive.
Previous 5 fliks were PG, 6th should be the same; Lucas et. al. shouldn't cave and prevent me from watching the end of a series with my kids that I enjoyed as a kid myself.
Just wondering out loud...does this release deliberately coincide with the release of the long-awaited NIN album With Teeth? Myself, I was up at 5:30 this morning downloading and burning it off iTunes.

Mr. Reznor did release The Hand That Feeds Garage Band tracks, a first, and a nice Apple marketing ploy to boot. Again, just wondering...
Also, this morning I realized that the only damn reason to keep Windows now that I've discovered Ubuntu is iTunes.
