Plenty of people don't learn very well by being lectured. I'm one of them. As a result, I frequently fall asleep in lectures (because I get bored by them). However, I still come to class most of the time. I still come because I'm not coming to learn the material (which I would rather do outside of class), but because it helps me keep track of where the class is, keep track of any assignments, and maybe get a basic idea about the material and which parts the prof expects me to know before I study it for myself.
I assume that the laptop people have similar reasons. They are alot more annoying, though
XBox has a few other titles I think you're neglecting.
One of the strong titles on the PSX and PS2 has been the Gran Turismo series. However, about the same time as GT4 on PS2, Forza Motor Sport came out on XBox. It got alot of press as being a big rival to GT4 (sort of like a "Halo Killer" on a smaller scale), and honestly it lived up to most of it (a little bit of annoyonce in single player "unlocking", but way better multiplayer then GT4).
Also, XBox has been so far the best system for Splinter Cell by a long shot (technically it's multiplatform, but the XBox has been better then the others by a larger margin each time, with Live in PT and the coop mode of CT being barely playable in the PS2 version, but great on XBox). Of course, that could change in the next generation since the hardware on both systems will be alot closer in terms of abilities.
They're also the only system Bethsoft has ported TES3: Morrowind too. Granted it's not exclusive (and infact PC came first), but it gives the XBox at least one strong RPG title. (Disclaimer: On this one, I prefer the PC version for its modability, but a few of my friends played it on XBox). Furthermore, TES4: Oblivion is already slated for release on XBox360 (and PC, but still no other next-gen).
Finally, in the fighting games category, DOA (both DOA 3 and Ultimate - aka DOA2++) were exclusive XBox Titles. Tecmo hasn't thrown much Sony's way since DOA2 Hardcore (PS2 launch), but has announced DOA4 as a 360 title.
Granted MS doesn't have quite as many well known franchises as Sony and Nintendo do, but they have atleast a few good games either as exclusives or as the best version.
That post you replied to has been modded down to Score 0, so he probabbly couldn't see it anymore. I couldn't at first either, then I looked at your posts parent rather then just the thread as displayed by slashdot.
I think what the GP is trying to say is that any company who targets their advertising to people who pirate things needs to rethink some things. Of course not all 13-26 year olds pirate every new album, but advertising to the ones that you know are pirating is something of a waste of time.
The GP's statement would be just as true w/o any reference to an age group.
That one uses virtual memory to allow you to play most games in the Mame library (since XBox has so little). Load times for bigger games can get up pretty high, though they usually run well once they're done (Most of my experiance here is with Neogeo stuff, Kof 98/2000 in particular).
This is certainly a great idea (I love alot of game music, Final Fantasy by far not the least), but Square Enix has alot of other good game soundtracks they could release. Chrono Trigger/Cross and Final Fantasy Tactics come immediatly to mind. Of course, those are by different composers, so that might have something to do with it.
Not exactly mere weeks. It's been almost 5 months since the initial launch of the PSP in Japan, which is the firmware version this is running on. Even the US launch was a month and a half ago. Still, it's something cool and it makes me hope there will eventually be alot of fun stuff to do (if I ever get a bigger memory stick for my PSP)
FYI: Japanese PSP Launch Date: 12/12/2004 US Launch Date: 3/24/2005
Most banks block access after a certain number of failed attempts. If I at least partially remember statistics, the number of possibilities for that password is something in the area of 8! or 40,320... although having two 's'es means its probably a bit less (7! * 7 maybe?.. still around 35k). Most banks would lock you out before you'd even tried 5 of those.
Of course, if I don't remember my stats at all, feel free to correct me. It's been a few years, and I hated that stuff anyway.
Well, unless the hash has as many bits as the actual data, there will be multiple blocks of data that match the same hash. Adding more bits to the hash only makes those fewer and farther between.
And a hash that is the same length as the data would sort of defeat the purpose of hashing:P
I made my own when I softmodded my XBox. All you need is an extra little break off point (the last 5 inches or so that connects to the XBox from the controller) and a USB cable. Cut em both open and match the wires for either an XBox Controller -> USB adapter (use it for gamepads sometimes), or a USB -> Xbox adapter (usable w/ a thumb drive or USB keyboard) if you have a USB extension cable. Tape it all up with electric tape and you're good to go.
Good thing you don't need to solder, too. If there were soldering involved, I'd probably have ended up dead or in the hospital trying to get it working.
Damn, forgot about triple kill. You win that round.
That last line depends, though. UT Classic stops at "God Like". UT2k4 (or maybe 2k3, my computer doesn't like them that much and I'm not inclined to tell it otherwise) introduced "HOLY SHIT" after "God Like"
Also, my little [/nitpick] tag got dropped for using angle brackets in my GP post:P
The travel data could also be stored in the car's black box (all have them since 1996).
So... how about my '87 BMW? Does that mean I don't have to get one? And I'm not even the oldest care I've seen around by a long shot. Relying on any technology in the car past an engine and some wheels is gonna mean not everyone has it.
On another note, will this take into account what I have to pay to use the toll road (I-73) that makes up about 70% of my daily commute and automatically deduct it?
Speaking of that toll road... the way this works would probably be similar. I have a little box (probably about 3" x 3" x 1/2") that sits on my dashboard (used to have velcro to keep it attached to the windshield, but that stuff broke). Whenever it goes throught a toll booth, it transmits (I assume) account/payment data of some sort that it has stored. The same kind of thing would probably work for whatever they're considering for this (with a bit of an upgrade to its data storage abilities and some new software). Of course, then nothing would stop me from leaving it in the house all the time:P. This all seems a bit poorly considered to me...
I own an XBox and a PS2 and the fact that online play for the xbox is built in (unlike in PS2) and is well supported (unlike in GC which has few online games) makes it a way better system then the other two. That doesn't mean it isn't much heavier/bulkier then the other two (especially with the new small version of PS2, though mine is an older one). The weight is something I know all about because I lug it around to play LANed with friends alot.
And anyway, my use of humor doesn't invalidate the point that PSP is going to be better then the DS in online play, since it comes with WiFi based online play out of the box (even if none of the online launch games look like they are going to be spectacular) and the DS doesnt and never will support anything more then close range P2P connections AFAIK.
Only if by "their alternatives" you mean "the XBox". Gamecub doesn't have much to brag about when it comes to online play. Of course, we can all be thankful MS isn't in the handheld market.. anything they made "handheld" would probably be about the size of a PS2 or Gamecube, and weigh 2 or 3 pounds.
The PSP sure does online play alot better then the DS (which can't even go online, just local P2P connections).
Yes, you can.
And Pricewatch finds it cheaper.*
*I wouldn't actually buy my drive from one of the low-price places, but it shows it's possible to find 250gb for >$100.
Unfortunetly it's only a sign of things to come when you're computer can't even render a video of the engine at 15 FPS.
:(
Slashdot is a free service. Unless you subscribe. But I've heard rumors to the effect that they don't see the ads anyway.
It's different.

As a matter of fact you did, your first post here where you typed, "B) Fansubs are killing the business" really cant be read any other way.

April Fools sure came late this year o.O
A good mame port?
Like this one?

Assuming that the ~90% of people who use IE will all upgrade their clients the day of release is just a little far fetched, don't you think?

Here 's one. There are plenty of programs on that list for reasons other then MS Firewall issues.

No, no, no... God-like is 20 .. 25? something like that kills on a streak. 3 in a row is only a multi-kill.
Except, as the article says, WinXP SP1 is still quite common. Hell, I still use Win2k SP4. I wish they'd run the test with that.
I don't think it'd be that hard to make, all you need is a paper clip and a two of those plastic bouncy eyes. And maybe some string...
Oh! and don't forget the annoying dialogue bubbles.
A quote from 1984 would probably be more appropriate, but I'm to lazy to go find one :P
... well ... ok, that's exactly what it is.
It's not that I don't think highly of Attack of the clones or anything it's just that
On another note, will this take into account what I have to pay to use the toll road (I-73) that makes up about 70% of my daily commute and automatically deduct it?

Ever heard of humor? :P
