"Why do mirrors reverse left and right but not up and down?"

They don't do either. They only reverse front and back.
Think about it. Look straight into a mirror placed perpendicular to the ground. If you are facing north (for instance) your reflection is a person facing south. It's because left and right aren't reversed that lettering and such looks backwards.

The funny thing is actual WWII U-boat veterans hate that movie. They don't think it has a shred of realism to it.

Yup, as soon as the spaceship touches down, about fifty brightly costumed extras will jump out of the lander and perform an elaborately choreographed song-and-dance number while the astronauts (played by Shah Rukh Khan and Madhuri Dixit) profess their undying love for each other. I honestly can't wait.

In fact, one of my Japanese friends did use the wording "effectively the same country".

I've noticed this too. I agree that the Chinese government is one of the most repressive regimes in the world, and that Chinese industries have done damage to the environment, but when someone takes so much time making malicious accusations about this, you have to wonder what goes on in this guy's mind.

In another article several months ago, I tried to reason with this AC, and I got a reply calling me a smelly Chinese bigot. He also said that Caucasians and Chinese do not think about things differently because they were raised in different cultures, but that they are fundamentally different in some way.

Yes, I realise these words are part of the vernacular. The point I was trying to make was that this word use, as well as Aristotelian philosophy, was the main reason the Roman Catholic Church was opposed to a heliocentric worldview.

As for the Young-Earth/Old-Earth argument, if we continue that, we'd just be trading websites for weeks.
