The deal is simple: mobile phone operators fear to lose their revenues and want to destroy the competition. That's their only motive. But they can't just go to the officials and say "we lose profits, ban skype" So they make up those ridiculous claims about "national security" and "uncontrolled communication channels" Anyway, "the strictness of Russian law is compensated by optional compliance", as the saying goes, so there.
See that Big and Red button in top right corner? It reads "STOP" on it and it did what you've just requested: reset the system. Oddly enough, there were a lot of applications redefining its behavior (just like Windows did with CAD) but it could be circumvented by quickly repeatedly hitting it.
Totally agree. I once used the word "rotten" to refer to some stale medicines when talking to a doctor and I was laughed at for not knowing that penicillin can not rot. And I know that I was just using casual lexicon. Just before someone become smart the talk wasn't in english.
"hard drive" sounds cool. It has two resonating "r"s and there are such things like "warp drive" and somebody can drive someone else insane. It's not like some wimpy see-pee-ew or for gods sake cheap-set.
It's the newest fashion now to have the Pirate Bay trials. After half a year you (if you are a nation leader, that is) will not be able to look your peers in the eye if you haven't had a Pirate bay trial. "Bah, what country are you anyway? You even didn't have a Pirate Bay trial! Ridiculous!"
We have two part system: a client and a server. The client is just a program. I think it's ok to pirate that. But the server is not just a program. It needs hardware to run it and the company is providing that. So by connecting with a pirated client you use a service you didn't pay for. I think the company should give away client software or sell without DRM or whatever, but there should be subscription fee on company servers. That'd be fair. I don't know why they didn't think of that in the first place.
You can consider it autocratic. Presidential and parlamentary elections are faked on regular basis, governors are installed from Kremlin (elections were abolished not so long ago), courts are funded from city budgets and judges are installed by the president and the parliament majority, so called "United Russia" has Putin as the leader. So there is no de facto separation of powers, the president and prime minister decide. Oh, and journalists and bloggers are killed and imprisoned for their opinions. We also have the infamous "282 article" in criminal codex which de facto forbids any criticism of state. So yes, Russia may be considered autocratic if not "Soviet" again:-)
The USA have the most powerful conventional military in the world. So the only way to ensure the USA don't attack you is to have a nuclear bomb. And the USA have clearly shown that they want and will attack you, take Serbia or Iraq for example.
Let's follow the legislators logic. They want to tax violent video games so that game producers have less profit and less incentive to make violent games, right? So let them make pirating such games legal and DRM illegal. Voila! Two birds with one stone!
Chernobyl was not a bad design. It's safety measures was deliberately manually turned off to test some stupid ideas of incompetent bureaucrats. They could take a truckload of nuclear waste and spray it from an airplane just as well. You can't blame engineers here.
Remember Dan Simmons' sci-fi series "Hyperion"? AIs emerged from viruses there. We will likely have AIs emerge from spam-bots. Not a bad guess, I suppose.
Call me any names you want, but I pirate for those reasons (honest):
1. It's free (as beer). Yeah, why should I give money to anyone if I can get it for free? On the other hand, I clearly aknowledge the fact that I will not pay if I don't have free alternative.
2. I'm lazy. Seriously, I don't want to go to some megamall to get even my favouritest music, involving all that cars, traffic jams and crowds. I can just download. And no, iTunes and such is not an option. Making payment online today is still too complicated.
3. I really like my freedom (as freedom). Yeah, guys, it had to be here. But I just don't want some other people tell me what can I do, and what I can not, with my own files on my own disks no matter where they come from. And if my friend asks for some music, it's him who I will try to please, not some guys somewhere.
And about that FAC people. Looks like it is another big fat organization to "protect" artists and they just gonna screw the customer some more. After all, piracy does hurt artists, doesn't it? So there. Meanwhile, enjoy your relative security while big guys fight among themselves.
It started by screwing foreign countries and violating international pacts. I can have it "for the good of people", fine, non-americans is not that important after all. But then it violates it's own laws on grounds of "it's my law so I'm immune". What's next? Outright tyrranny?
I don't understand. What's the difference between RL bullying and cyberbullying? Just the medium. It's still the same old shit. Why do we need to introduce more laws where old one suffice, just need to be enforced.

Move datacenters to Antarctica.
And now it's not a joke.
SMAIRU! SMAIRU!

I am waiting for them to seize and "scan" ships and aircraft passing by near their shores...

Those guys are really desperate
Looks like everyone has already forgot the LHC...
The new smart bomb test was a failure, report the military. The personnel was unable to push the test unit from the bomber.

We had machines named Gandalf (big file server), Thorin (router), Dwalin (small server) and Dwarf1, Dwarf2 till Dwarf24. You get it.
