Perhaps some people think that World of Warcraft is retarded. I personally enjoy Nintendogs. I'll probably also enjoy Animal Crossing DS when it comes out. So what if you don't kill anything in the game.
As for already been done, I disagree with that. Nintendogs is far more interactive than Tomagachi. In Nintendogs, you speak to your dogs and use the stylus to interact with your dog. Also, I don't remember people being able to teach tricks to their tamagachis.
I find it interesting how everytime there is a post about a great family oriented game, I see posts like. "ths gaome iz the suxors psp roxs. m rated gams are coll n,body plys tese gams. move along now" I don't see it done the other way around. Perhaps it's a correlation of maturity and game genre.
First person shooter is not the difinitive genre in my opinion. In the 8 & 16 bit days, it was the platformer. In the pre NES days it was the arcade like game. After that, there seemed to be no definitive genre.
Yeah right. Guys, I've debated with this loser before. Droopy thinks the following:
#1 Anybody who doesn't like FPS, M rated games, and other boring games is kiddy and has no taste.
#2 ALL gamers are males 14-30 years old who like the games above.
You see, he has no perspective. He doesn't realize that MANY people have different tastes in games. I don't have a problem with the PSP. I won't get one because it's not for me. I enjoy games like Nintendogs and Kirby. Many people like Nintendogs. We are seeing a gaming revolution where games are no longer just for immature young males, but for everyone. My wife and I enjoy what Nintendo has put out and graphics are good enough for me.
Normally I like to own every game console. I have to rationalize why not to buy a game system when it comes out. Like the XBox. I didn't buy it because it only produced games that would appeal to 14 - 35 year old bachelors (who are as clueless about girls as the developers of those games). I think I can count all the XBox exclusives I want on one hand.
With the PSP, it was even easier to rationalize why not to get it. It did the opposite of everything I want a handheld game console to do!
#1. Affordability. Handheld consoles should be cheaper and so should the games. I bought Nitendogs the other day for $30. Had this been a PSP game, it would have cost $50.
#2. There are no G rated UMD movies. After awhile, you'll probably find a decline in E rated games as well. The demographics are going to change for the PSP to be a hardcore gamer only console since the family gamer can't afford it.
#3. I don't want to be forced to buy bells & whistles. If I want to buy a movie, it's going to be DVD. Why should I be forced to buy a UMD player that I'm not going to use?
If Sony wants my buisness, they should lower the price of the PSP and come out with a strong line of family centered games. Sure they can't release awesome titles like Nintendogs or Kirby's Canves Curse, but they can make their own 1st party family centric game division.
Oh, and there is a glitch in the posting. If you enter your username, and password, and don't write a body, it'll log you in without having to type in the secret word.
I don't think the name 'videogame' is so important. I think it is a concept of a class of entertainment in which a game is played on an electronic display. So I think Baer's argument is mearly because of the desire to monopolize on videogames. Later on, it would look silly for him to agree that "Tennis for Two" really was a videogame. Thus he sticks to his arguments.
It's kinda like that interview with J. Allard. He was asked why they used HD-DVD on the 360. The real reason was so that they would use a non-Sony format, yet they gave a different answer altogether.
It's obvious why he denied those two games as being videogames. It's because his company, Magnovox, had a patent on game consoles. As long as Magnovox held on to the patent, anybody wanting to make a game console would have to pay royalties.
But of course, it is obvious that Tennis for Two and Space Wars are videogames. In fact, anybody who wants to play the origional Spacewar can do it here
I'm one of those Nintendo fans who looks at gameplay before graphics. But I was very impressed with the video. In fact, the idea of a FPS fantasy game sounds like a lot of fun.
The sound cut out near the beginning of the movie clip. What platform is this going to be on?
I think you may be right in a way. I think he should go after the retailers who sell these games to minors. Let's do a thinking exercise...
If minors got a hold of a porn magazine, who is at fault? Playboy? Maybe not. Most likely the retailer. Then again, if kids get a hold of ciggerettes, who's at fault? Could very well be the tobacco industry as well as the retailers since tobacco is targeted to teenagers.
So if games are targeted towards the teenagers, but given an M rating, I think both the retailer and the game company is at fault. GTA is indeed advertised on programs watched by teens. Thus it is intentionally targeted towards teens. Advertising teams aren't stupid.
Thompson is obviously not anti-gaming. I, a gamer, wrote him a letter explaining that I was a gamer and liked what he was doing. He wrote me a positive reply. Thompson is anti-violent games in the hands of minors.
I think your ignorance is showing. Step outside and look at the world around you. Not everyone is a single Male 10-30 years old. A good game appeals to the masses, not just your minority group. What are you an EGM editor or something?
Poor taste? I think being entertained by people being slashed up to bloody pieces is poor taste. Have you even dated a real woman?
Playing videogames growing up was about getting together with friends and family and having a great time as we would play together. That tradition continues today with great games such as Pikmin 2, Mario Kart Double Dash (8 player LAN!), Mario Party, Super Smash Bros. and more!
Can you imagion me inviting a buddy and his wife over to play a crime simulator? Or perhaps I can bore myself to death by shooting 5000 people/critters/whatever that look exactly the same and behave exactly the same. My guests can yawn to death at the bordom of watching me play.
The facts are simple, videogames are for everyone, not just hopelessly single males ages 12-30. In fact, that's what Nintendo sees in the Revolution. They realize they can sacrifice not pleasing wannabe convicts by releasing a system that will appeal to a wide demographic. This demographic includes guys, gals, old people, young kids, and everyone inbetween. A "good game" appeals to large audiences (including 'non-gamers'). A crappy game will only appeal to a select group of preteens and permenant bachelors (and usually recieve an 'M' rating to indicate as such).
As for Britney Spears, I'm glad you listen to her, but I personally go for groups such as Jeremey Camp, toby Mac, and KJ 52.
This way Nintendo won't have a game console that will have a failed video format on it! I think M$ just gave the HD-DVD the win here since it will be the PS2 of this gameing generation.
Why would they "Take the path of Sega" when they are the ONLY profitable game console company? Nintendo ALWAYS has a profit. If I were to invest in one of the three gaming hardware companies, I wouldn't invest in anyone else but Nintendo. I would want to make money, not hope I make money later down the road. It would be retarded to invest in the other two companies. If it wasn't for their parent compainies, they would be taking the path of ET for the Atari 2600.
As for good games, if Metal Gear Solid, Silent Hill, Resident Evil, and Devil May Cry are all "good games", why don't I own any of 'em? I've got over 45 GCN & PS2 games. So why didn't I even have the urge to buy 'em? Why is it that I'm waiting right now for some more "good games"? Probably because I don't have the urge to play Killer 7 either. That kinda stuff may appeal to preteens and permenantly single males, but not to guys like me. I'll never see a day when my wife will bring home GTA and say, "Hey honey, let's play this game. We can pickup and murder hookers! The kids would love this stuff!"
I'm not sure what law there is that says a game must be extreamly different from it predecessor. MegaMan 1 was fun. So why can't MegaMan 2 be more of the same? Sonic 1 was fun. So why can't Sonic 2 be similar?
Don't think it has anything to do with fanboyism. I have a PS2 and I enjoy quite a few games on it including DDR, Dragon Ball Z, and Star Wars Lego. The PS2 just doesn't have as many good games on it as the Gamecube.
In my opinion, games should be fun. So I flock to the fun games. I'm just not embarassed to dance on a dance mat playing DDR, cry "Bannana" to try to win a Mic game on Mario Party 6, or wave my hands at imagionary Ninjas on an Eye Toy. I don't feel insecure to have fun.
Perhaps your definition on why one should play a game is different. I guess if that works for you, slash all the hookers to bits that you want. While your at it murder a bunch of cops and find a cheat to rape the female ones. For me, I'm happy defeating the evil Robotnic or saving Princess Toadstool for the zillionth time.
I think in the interview Nintendo Power did with Simon Jeffery (President of Sega of America), Simon sums it up best. "A Nintendo gamer is very different from an XBox gamer."
Ah... Like I said. A "if it ain't rated M, it ain't good gamer". It's okay to be that way. Some of us change tastes over time; some of us like our "kiddy" games.
Wind Waker is an awesome game. Yeah, I thought it was short, but having a world of islands to explore was great. Twilight Princess should be great as well.
Mario Sunshine was a lot of fun as well. I laughed and laughed at the ending when Bowser reveals that Peach is not Bowser Jr.'s Mom.
With awesome DS games such as Animal Crossing DS, Mario Kart DS, and the New Super Mario Bros. in our horizon, the only people who would not like 'em are those "I'm too embarassed to admit that an E rated game can be a lot of fun gamers". Or the "If my friends catch me with a DS, I'm so insecure that I will feel uncool gamers"
The odd thing is, is that many people agree that E rated games are fun. A Gamecube owner buys more games than a Playstation or an XBox owner. So not only does Nintendo make a profit on the console, they make more profit on their gamers.
Ah... Another "If it ain't rated M it ain't good" gamer. Out of all my consoles, my Gamecube gets the most use. I love games like Pikmin, Mario Kart, Baten Kaitos (despite the bad voice acting), Evolution Worlds, Skies of Arcadia Legends, Zelda Wind Waker, etc... Let's just say I have well over 30 Gamecube discs and less than 10 PS2 discs.
I think having two screens is great. It's nice being able to have a map in most games or a menu system that I can glance at and touch.
I bought Kirby CC last month and it is great! I only wish it would have had more bosses.
Sure, it temporarily made GTA rated AO, but with all the publicity, parents will actually hear about all the bad things in it. I feel that some parents are uninformed these days because they are not gamers. Parents are not reading EGM or even Nintendo Power. So sometimes it takes CNN to tell parents that GTA is not a kid's game.
I'm not sure why anybody feels that these politicians are anti-games. I'm very much a gamer, and I really don't like games like GTA: SA being out on the street.
As for the Sims, I think the politicians are going for consistancy here. Think about all the posts people wrote about when the Hot Coffee Mod came about. They all said, "Why not the Sims?" So despite the fact that The Sims is not necessarily that bad, they don't want to be hypicritical.
Again, I want to reiterate that people like me are happy about the AO GTA rating simply because of the amount of violence in that game. The Hot Coffee Mod was an excuse. But since we've used the Hot Coffee as the excuse, we have to be consistant. Otherwise we can't use it again.
Perhaps they can play their Nintendo DS while they are waiting for customers to show up.
Crave is still around. One of their lastest games is "The Bible Game" for PS2 & GBA.
Dang! Why can't I have mod points when I see a funny comment like this. I always get them on dull days.

That if you select Developer mode and press up while playing a female character, their dress disappears?
