I cringe at the accent (probably because I'm a Swede). Anyhow, you are right about it being overpriced and that you could easily build something like this for yourself. It would probably be cheaper to buy a TV, a TV-cabinet from IKEA, and a Boxee box or something and fit it together yourself. I wouldn't buy it, because I'm sceptical towards these sorts of things and I want to choose what parts I put in it, but for most people it's just a good and easy solution. Uppleva isn't meant for me and you, this is for people who have no idea how to integrate the various components or just don't want to put down the effort. They get an integrated solution without having to think or put down any work, and that's worth a little extra.
Swede here. It's a matter of perspective I guess. The chaplain's largest complaint seems to be isolation, which is pretty bad. On the other side, the cells are pretty comfortable, looking almost like a small hotel room. You get your own bed, tv, desk. Computers are allowed and in some cases video games. Also, prison rape is virtually unheard of.
It's exciting, and certainly one step closer, but not really THAT exciting for your average person. I agree with the GP, wake me when they find something closer to the mark.
The HDD is sometimes louder than the fans when the CPU is idling, it's not a big deal. What's attractive for me is that they offer roughly the same performance as more expensive non-H2O coolers and weigh half as much. I have used Corsair's H50 and Antec's Kühler H20 620, which are made by the same company apparently, because they look exactly the same. Slightly annoying installation, but I am satisfied otherwise. Leaves a lot of space in my case, which is appreciated.
I'm in Sweden, the ISP's here have invested slightly more in the backbone or whatever the cause may be. I feel I need to add though that I mistyped, 25mb/s is my maximum theoretical speed. In reality, it goes up to about 12. Although, I don't really need more, but wouldn't mind it.
Anyway, I'm aware of the situation many people find themselves in (mainly in the US, Australia and NZ it would seem). It's a good thing they continue developing connection over copper though. If they can't be arsed to fix the connections up to at least ADSL2 standards, then fiber will surely take a long time coming.
A good deal of apartment houses in Sweden already have fiber as it is, pulled in with cable, and have had it for many years. Just recently they've started using it, allowing for 100/100, 200/200 and in rare cases even higher speeds.
What? This is great for all the people who don't have fiber and can't afford to connect their house with it. I'm capped at 25Mbit/s because of this. Wouldn't mind a 400% increase of speed.
You're worried about the future of gaming because the games will be better? Graphics isn't everything, but it IS important. There have always been crappy games and that's not going away. At the same time there are tons of awesome games being released with superior graphics and effects, which makes them even better. Improved graphics is no substitute for story and gameplay, but it's not harmful either, quite the opposite.
Being bothered by others laptops seems like a rather small problem really. People concentrating on other stuff than the lecture are supposed to be able to make their own decisions, and it's on their responsibility that they pick up enough information. Besides, laptops are really useful.
All true. I was just thinking that the Austro-Hungarian government was the first to actually declare war. In any case, I just think it's kind of funny since some people seem to think Germany actually started two world wars.
Yeah, but it's not like a lot of people were involved in that war or anything. (Funny story actually, most people blame the war on the Germans when it was really Austria who set the stones rolling.)
The original report also said global warming will put 75 million to 250 million Africans at risk of severe water shortages in the next 10 years, but a recalculation showed that range should be 90 million to 220 million.
The sentence in TFS is, perhaps, not optimal but pretty funny late at night.

The initial salary for teachers in US is actually higher than for teachers in Finland and Japan (source: OECD, Education at a Glance, 2011).
Why the cream?
I always thought Dragonforce was the hardest metal known to man.

It's mostly Greece, Ireland and Spain to some extent. The rest of us are doing OK. Don't buy in to the media scaremongering too much.
Hey! Replicators weren't invented in a day, you know!

Surely the latter is instantaneous, and likely much more foolproof in a DIY case than any chemical solution?
You would be surprised...
It's caught on like a house on fire.
Young kid got it bad cuz he 12
Does that mean we can finally get multipasses and wear strange neon coloured rubber clothing?

Why is this modded +4 Insightful? SGU was great. Is there no one who can appreciate a good space drama?
What? If you pay $500 for a video card, you shouldn't even be thinking about upgrading for at least three years.
You should really find a new place to shop for computers. They aren't that expensive.

A strange game. The only winning move is not to play.
Unless you cheat.
'(Embryonic stem cell) research is clearly research in which an embryo is destroyed,' Lamberth wrote in a 15-page ruling.
Wow, he must have used a really large font!
