I'm pretty much living those days. Most 1st party games on the GC have little loading time, in quite a few cases completely unnoticeable.

(Metroid Prime isn't one of those games... "it's not loading, Samus is just taking the elevator to the next area" still pretty good though, and immersive and infrequent, so it's definately bearable)

Unfortunately, Fire Emblem is pretty much the only GC game of note that was released this year, but the DS is out there and it has what you want :)

I'll bet there'll be a new version that shows Vader killing the Jedi of the Jedi Temple only in self-defence (somehow??*), prompting people to wear "Vader killed them in cold blood" shirts and demanding a vintage release straight from the original DVDs.

At this point Lucas (100 years old) claims he can't find any working DVDs, but he has the blu-ray edition and sells it for a ridiculous price.

*There's probably a better example of something that could equate with Han shooting Greedo first in the new trilogy, but I never watched the new trilogy very intently, for obvious reasons (it sucked).

That was probably the funniest shit on TDS ever, which is saying a lot. Zell is a cartoon-like madman, wishing he could challenge people to duels and complaining that there are fire safety warnings but no warnings about sinning, I'm not even quoting or explaining the situtation any further because you simply have watch this segment to get the hilarity. (This whole thing is funny, but if you want Zell, skip to 3:15). I can't find the fire safety sign one though.

So as said before, you're comfortable with the controls, characters, and storyline, and you figure it's going to be as good as the lsat one, but I have another reason to contribute:

they already have the characters and story developed, and usually they have an engine to build with too. In other words, they're not starting from scratch, so they have more time to make a better game.

Take Mario Power Tennis, as a random example. They already had the actual Tennis part down (and down well), so they had time to tweak the controls, and add lots of fun gimmick courts and mini-games that fit well with the existing engine. (Also you get the power shots, but I'm lukewarm on those).

It's especially good if you were new to the series, because it's like you're getting everything the N64 game and those cool additions.

  16. Re:Shoe for Senate on Is the ESRB Broken? · · Score: 1

First and foremost, mod parent up. Senators who are out to make the ESRB play through the whole game really have no idea what's going on and should be kicked out of office for pretending to.

Now that that's out of the way, all of this proves that the ESRB's system has been right all along: tell companies to show the most objectionable things available in the game, normally-accessable or otherwise, so they can rate it.

If a company lies about what is the most objectionable material, or is negligent to produce it to the ESRB, then the ESRB should sue the shit out of them. Sue them to the point where they lose all the money they gained from the misleading rating (a tough estimate, I know). Now there's no incentive to hide objectionable material from the ESRB.

Make it easy for parents to look up such re-rated games on ESRB's website, and invite them to return the game to the store for their money back, hell, invite them to sue the company that mis-represented their material to the ESRB, because it was their fault.

Maybe parents should actually be parenting and look at what their kids are playing. Doesn't matter. Every company is going to be awfully careful about presenting their material to the ESRB and removing any objectionable leftover code when the stakes are that high. If you ask me, that's the way it should be. I mean come on, who makes a racy sex game, then figures "actually that's going too far, let's make a flag to lock it and just leave it in there". I'm not saying they had a chance of knowing how big a problem it was going to cause, I'm just saying it's a damn careless mistake, and somewhat disrespectful of the ESRB when you think about it (unless they just totally forgot that they made a sex game). When Hot Coffee first came out, I was sure that it was all just part of the mod, but of course was wrong.

Really I just like the suing part because it sends companies and politicians a message that the ESRB doesn't let stuff like this happen. Though IRRC Hot Coffee really hurt Take Two's stock.

Non-sequitor question: how come DVDs can contain "unrated material"?
