    software licenses don't make sense in any form.

    If i had patented the technique of "fire". i could sue every company utilizing its benefits such as people who produce stoves.

    Protecting a line of code GNU/GPL/whatever is fine with me, but patenting a function doesnt make sense.

    Whatif for some reason someone would patent the ASCII chart. we'd bescrewed.

    His hobby however turened into a billion dollar company and A company's attitude towards the release of Alpha stage software is different then that of an 80's hacker

    A teen's brain is chemically underdevelloped compared to an adult's.

    Therefore they perceive things in a different manner and have a hard time asessing rights from wrongs and foreseeing the cosequences of their actions.

    There is a reason why teens aren't trialed as an adult (at least not in europe)

    The internet isn't just for research anymore, its become party of commonday life.

    People just care about pretty looks, not about proper presentation of the latest figures on german fish breeds.

    Some may consider it dumbing down the web, but apealing visuals are importent to attract joe sixpack to your site.

    I might not be running WINE, but i too am running the windows xp pro reduced cost edition.
    I did get a proper license for my XP home edition, but after my harddrive got killed i lost my backup partition. Since OEM cds arent given out anymore its hard for PAYING customers to get their OS back.

    Does this mean I too will lose my ability to update?

    If so microsoft has once again screwed over their clients.

    The thin line between me and linux at the moment is my unsupported wireless card.

    The reason why firefox caught on was beacuse of 2 simple things.
    it was free ande it was better then other available products in its price range(IE).

    Sure, Opera and Mozilla itself were competing for the browser throne, But they were too complicated for the average soccermom to use when browsing for cooking recipes.(not to mention the fact that you had to PAY for opera)

    There will be a expensive "pro", but but for regualr users there will be a free version too.

    The freeversion however will be half its functionality and will be adsupported with 3rd party programs.

    Ill assume that with "os" they mean free.

    It isnt very surprising that a lot of companies are switching from expensive propietary software to freely distributable OS software.

    A good example why, are companies that use photoshop for some basic image editing. They are paying huge license fees for software that isn't even used for its full potental.

    For them it doesnt matter that GIMP has "less" features, since most of them aren't needed.

    Its a great concept, but if the cc/mediacentre really wants to become part of the living room interrior, then they will have to take alot more things in account then just the features.

    No matter how fancy the hardware specs will be, It Will need a slick design (eg mac mini-ish) And most im portant of all it needs to be affordable.

    Most current Media Centres are too ugley, too big and too expensive. noone wants too pay a $1000 for another complicated bulky piece of plastic, that doesnt fit in their interior.

    Sometimes it seems like Kim Jong Ill II didnt get enough love as a child.

    N.K. has been threatening the world with their nukes for quite some time allready and it seems like theyre just seeking out for attention. Kim isnt really a pschyco dictater unlike some of you might think, but more the leader of a dirt poor country desperately seeking for funds. id compare it more with a small child causing a ruckus in a supermarket because it doesnt get candy.
    Also i Doubt that he will actually use those nukes as as an act of retalliation the US WILL intervene , which at the least put an end to Kim Jong Ill's leadership.

    The use of nukes will only end in a huge disaster for him, so it is highly doubtable that whe should fear this tiny country.

    Windows Xp has been focussing a lot on making windows easier to use for novice users.
    Lots of extra features and visual enhancements have been implemented.

    For more advanced users some of those features can be considered a nuissance or even a obstacle.

    Is it possible that windows longhorn could include a advanced users mode in which there a few wizards and a stripped down GUI?

    I dont think desktop sizes shall see a sudden change soon. Small cases have been available for years but for the avarege workstation the ease of upgrading is more important then the slim design.

    besides, most designs have liked like big ugley pieces of shiny plastic.

    i still prefer my good old matte black case
