My Mother (while age five) jumped off her roof with an umbrella, after seeing Mary Poppins do it and broke her arm. Why won't someone ban Mary Poppins? THINK OF THE CHILDREN!
To be fair though.... Comparing all installations of Windows to Google running Linux, is like comparing MS's servers to the idiot Linux user who logs on as root by default.
What gamer doesn't watch dvds on a plain or train ride? What gamer doesn't surf the internet in a library or class. The typical gamer can not operate their computer only using a keyboard. I can understand the argument they should just bring a mouse with them, but lets face it, people aren't going to do it.
I was saying 25% of the male population is colorblind not that 25% of the male population is red/green colorblind. According to Wikipedia (with citations) was about 21% if you combine the different types.
The most annoying captchas I have ever found are the ones that use annoyingly similar colors that really screw with people that are red/green colorblind. I don't know if this is true or not but from what I've read this is about 25% of the male population so I can not be the only one who gets defeated by these type of captcha.
As a former Marine that got out only a year ago, they don't have beer machines in the barracks in the states, but of course anyone there turns a blind eye if someone underage is drinking. But for special events such as the Marine Corps Birthday Ball they let you consume alcohol as long as your SNCO/OIC (bosses) approve of it and you have someone to drive you back. When I went to Japan apparently the drinking age there is 19, Marines who were 19 could then buy beer/liquor on base and off base, without a problem.
I know this may not be a popular question, but what is the point with raytracing for games?
We're finally getting to a level of technology with rasterization where we're producing visuals at a level which is "Good Enough" (or better) for practically every genre. Do we really need to get on the hardware treadmill for the next 10 years to get to a similar technology level to get slightly more realistic lighting and reflections?
Yes, we do because everything that we do currently is just a hackish like system where we are using programing tricks and other methods to get it to look realistic. Instead of a video card you would just need a faster cpu, which if we base off of moore's law won't be much longer.
I somehow doubt woodstock would be his biggest fear. For that matter, if that's what they're doing, seems like a perfect opportunity to cash in on his previously-undervalued property.
Hippies don't have money though, they don't bring any!!!
Well coming from my point of view,I love steam, and because of how they do their copy-protection/distribution I will always buy from them. I have one account that has all the PC games that I play. I decided to reformat my computer and don't have the CDs? I can leave my computer downloading overnight and have over 30+ gigs downloaded of games I purchased. I go to our CS labs I install steam and download the game and play with my buddies, not a problem since it does not care how many computers it installs on. One thing I absolutely love about steam (well valve games...) is when we used to play in our CS lab we would use my account to install the game on about 12 computers, as long as my account was only playing on a LAN all 12 computers were able to play the game. It also didn't care that we had made the server a public server so other people could play with us as well. Valve treats customers right and because of this I don't mind paying money for their software, if all game companies treated their customers as well as Valve does I believe we would see less piracy.
Please stop submitting Jack Thompson stories. He's got nothing if you ignore him. Leave it to Shacknews, keep it off Slashdot.
Do you really want someone intelligent taking over his spot? As it stands right now he will never get anything done, which is how I like it personally.
Is he the same developer who made a game (Crysis) so resource hungry that no gaming platform can handle it? Shouldn't we be asking someone who knows how to make a game look great on current hardware, such as Valve perhaps?
I saw a demo for Quake 4 done with ray tracing even with 4x Quadcores the game was unplayable.. here is the demo. Going with ray tracing will definitely not make any game less resource hungry.
The second amendment was meant to prevent the government from removing that ability from the people. People might say in the US that no firearms possessed by citizens could defeat the US army, which I agree with. However, armed insurgencies with little in the way of technology or firepower have done very well destabilizing and toppling governments even in the face of the technological might of the US.
Yes, but if things ever got that bad I would think the troops would not turn a blind eye and shoot their fellow countrymen. The US Army is not some robotic army that does the biddings of its masters, and would join the other side if things came down to it. Then again maybe I'm being optimistic...
The title would be better if it read "Cracking: The Art of Exploitation," notwithstanding any introduction and definition that attempts to skirt the issue.
To my understanding cracking meant simply using a tool/program to exploit a bug in a program that someone else written (usually having no idea how and why it works), while hacking was looking for those exploits and understanding how they work and developing your own tools. If the second case is correct, then this book's title lives up to it's name by explaining to the reader on why and how these exploits work, and what they can do to prevent these flaws in their programing.
I would typically agree with you on this comment, but tarring and feathering tax collectors and throwing them out of the city sort of a terrorist act? I think some of the certain actions done by the early American citizens went to extreme sometimes.
For awhile any website that asked for a e-mail that really did not need it. I used the e-mail address woot@woot.com, I felt bad once I discovered woot.com was actually a website, and the amount of spam that I know have going to them.

Microsoft designed their own graphic chip and it crashed? I'm shocked... I tell you shocked!

Staples will be selling these movie disks for 5 bucks a pop at the checkout counter.
Why not just use Netflix then? Unless they are hoping for purely impulse buys, which would be better suited for buying DVDs then simply renting them.
Did anyone else read Philip's Dick to be filmed? I Think it is time to goto bed.
interesting enough also the word test works
If there was really a Jar Jar Binks I don't want to know, unless he was standing on the moon while it got hit.

No offense by do you read Digg often?
$250 to carry around half an album. Genius! You really had to be a gimmick fan to be an early adopter for mp3 players.
Hey I had one and to be honest I loved it, running with a mp3 player versus running with a CD player, which would you choose?
What about the ones that succeeded?

"Well there's your problem right there.
You wouldn't have this problem if you wrote your own drivers."
I disagree it would just cause more crashes..... if I wrote my own drivers..

No, America was founded by "rebels".
