    I'm thinking America (the US) is going to have a particularly hard time making a change to a post-labor-scarcity society.

    We havn't even managed to give ourselves reasonable annual vacation times, and being unemployed is a huge social stigma, along with the whole government 'handout' hate; and a large number of cold war leftovers at peak voting age who think 'Socialism' is a dirty word.

    Except motorola already get royalties from the makers of the chips.

    The only distinction is that newer XBoxs have built-in wifi instead of an add on device, so suddenly they want a cut of the whole thing

    Then you plug that into a device, they want 2% of that as well.

    Then you plug the device into your house, will they want 2% of your property value?

    I assure you that when automakers pre-installed Motorola radios into cars Motorola did not get even 1% of the whole car's sale price for patents.

    It's all the backwards compatibility cruft...

    So you can play games from the '90s on your surface (Pro), without an emulator, like X-Com, Everquest, etc.

    Gaining 10% while the DOW drops 5% is good, Gaining 10% while the DOW goes up 15% is bad.
