I agree, Blender's UI could use a lot of work. gmax/3ds max have a much better UI. I've spent lots of time under both Blender and gmax, and Blender's UI makes it very hard to do anything well and quickly. Since then, I've kept Blender off of my computer...

Actually, as students in the U.S., we're all taught the metric system at a very early age. :-/ ... so it's not like we know nothing about the metric system, as some try to point out. We also always use the metric system in science-related classes; we tend to not use the imperial system.

So no, this is not a problem unique to the United States. Yes, the U.S. may be the worst of the lot, and yes, a lot of this foolishness has arisen primarily because of corrupt greedy U.S. organizations who don't give a flip about consumers there or anywhere else, but if you believe nothing else, believe this: This idiocy will reach you in your supposedly safe and comfortable home country unless you are vigilant and active about stopping it.

You're right about that-- it's the U.S. industries at fault. If we can stop them (from pushing our government to doing their bidding as well), the U.S. as a whole wouldn't be to blame. I'm a US citizen and I don't like the RIAA and MPAA at all either. There really aren't that many of us here that want the RIAA and MPAA too.

  6. Re:Double standards? on Why Do People Switch To Linux? · · Score: 1

Only a double standard for those who give that as an excuse for not switching. Believe it or not, it's not like everybody should switch... people should stick with whichever platform offers them what they need. There are other reasons for not switching as well... such as games, programs already owned and its respective data, and compatibility with other computers in the home. Lots of people don't have the time, knowledge, and/or energy to switch. If you want people to switch to Linux, you'd need to tell them why Linux is all it's hyped up to be by the pro-Linux Slashdot community here, how it's better for them than whatever OS they're using, and make the switch easy and painless for them. You'd also need to give them the assurance they won't lose any data and that they'd have their programs (good luck on finding good clones of some programs, like TurboTax) and the data associated up and running.

The iPod Nano was unique, one of the reasons of which was that it was flash memory-based, correct? Then wouldn't hacking it to use a hard-drive be counter-intuitive, and a step in the wrong direction? Though it may have its uses, it's just a step back from solid-state media.

What's not appropriate for us, the consumers, is for the prices to be raised from the reasonable $0.99 price tag. Who is Bronfman, Jr. to speak for the consumers and artists?
