This one time, I took my keyboard keys out and rearranged them alphabetically. My friends (studying Comp Sci) were very puzzled with why pressing a letter typed an entirely different one:P
In my opinion, RSS is not used as much as it could. The only programs I have seen that offer RSS for new versions are the ones on sf.net, and that's because sf offers it. It's great though, you can check for new versions without checking. Now all we need is a program to download and install them automatically...
I have 100 GB of mp3s. Even though I would love to have them all in FLAC (I do encode my favorite/rare/almost broken CDs in flac), but it would require a few terrabytes, which I don't want to give to Britney Spears anyway.
There's something wrong with my PC (probably the last "Repair Windows" I did) that makes it unbootable when I install SP2. I guess I'll have to turn AutoUpdate off... It was nice having all the updates installed automatically though...
It's not that easy. My experience has shown that people lose every shred of common sense they ever possessed when in front of a PC. My computer-savvy cousin asked me the other day how to create a Favorites folder in Explorer. I mean, how hard can it be, poke around and see. Similarly, if a user sees a message that says "MAKE SURE YOU KNOW WHAT THIS PROGRAM DOES BEFORE EXECUTING", they will read it as "SAHDFIH SDIHF SIHDHIU UGH BSOIUD ASD" and call you to explain it to them. It's not that easy to make them realize that it's everyday language.
If you encrypted the audio in the program you use (before compression), you would probably lose it, since the compression is lossy. You could probably tunnel the connection over a secure encrypted proxy though.
Err, how did you manage to do that? I got a machine, installed XP SP2 with no updates (plain SP2), turned off the firewall and connected it to the net to autoupdate. It's been running ever since, flawlessly.
Is "Red" such an uncommon nickname? Besides, it's better than "wallah!". I friggin hate "wallah", it's "voila". Or "viola" for that matter, a viola is a MUSICAL INSTRUMENT! Sorry about the rant here:p
Actually, I think that's why sometimes when you stop a song while playing, it gets stuck in your mind all day, and won't go away until you listen to it until the end. That's what happens to me, anyway.
Actually, this is more of a technicality, since most people already have Gmail. It will just spare you the trouble of using one of your 50+ invitations when a friend wants a new email address. Plus, google already hinted they would be opening Gmail when they gave everyone 50 invites.
Actually, normal headsets don't work, because they act as an antenna, so you still get all the (if any) radiation that the phone emits. You can use Bluetooth headsets though, those work fine, but make sure you keep the phone somewhere other than your pants (genital region). I don't know if the phone hurts you, but better safe than sorry.
3) I have tried to install SP2, rendering my PC unbootable (and in one case Norton Ghost refused to restore the HDD, leaving me to do it by hand), but Automatic Updates are a nice feature to have, since they allow me to get all the updates except SP2 which will break my setup.
In that case, it will be mildly annoying to download them manually, but quite frustrating to come home one day and find out that SP2 has been installed and I am one reboot away from oblivion.
Does anyone else think that $500 is sad? I know that it's OSS and that it probably comes from someone's pocket, but in my opinion, it's better to have no reward at all than have $500. At least, with no reward, you could say people are doing it for the fame...
I tried to refute all the arguments about "bill gates sucks" and "google is the best" results (I thought that since MSN search has a smaller index, it would return fewer results for any query) by searching for "google sucks" in both search engines, but I was foiled by MSN search:
Google sucks on Google: 1.180.000 results
Google sucks on MSN: 2,631,202
Usually these services come with significant charges... Here in Greece we have the ability to use 3G phones to watch tv, but I don't even watch TV on my TV, why would I want to pay lots more to watch it on my mobile? Sure, there are many great services (email on the mobile through GPRS, accessing webpages using Opera), but most are not that useful considering the prices...

How did you type all that in 20 seconds?
My line went down yesterday. Longest 10 seconds of my life.
OMG you're so insightful! Telling off slashdot posters suddenly makes you have a life! I guess same goes for me now, but at least I enjoyed it :P
Aha, now all that remains is to find a galaxy shaped like a bottle of maple syrup!

The first beta of Longhorn is May 2005 Blablabla, Duke Nukem: Forever, blabla! Hahaha.

Now they can begin porting Duke Nukem: Forever!

There is such a feature, it's labels. It does the same as folders, although a bit differently.

There should BE news mp3s!

Wouldn't Wikipedia take measures to ensure nothing bad happened? I mean, that's what contracts are for...
