That's amazing, considering the sub optimal 3d hardware support in Linux. Imagine what happens after open sourcing the specs and the FOSS community produces a really good driver:) DX will go down the drain due to frame rate hungry players.
They stop Thunderbird and restart Eudora? There must be something behind this. If they wanted a better email client, why not improve Thunderbird? Is it a dead-end? Or there is some problem between the two developer groups? I'm utterly ignorant of the inside events, i'm just a (happy and puzzled) user of Thunderbird and Firefox who wonders why aren't these better integrated on Linux.
I'm not 100% sure these codes couldn't be cracked. How many people had the opportunity to try? How old is the technology behind it? I'm sure the money used to develop a working DRM is comparable to the money used to develop those locks.
I guess you didn't realize that you shoot yourself in your foot by your own reasoning. I completely agree that you cannot make your code more open and free with any other license than (and not then) BSD. (Actually you can, but GPL is surely not as 'open and free' as the BSD license). And this is where you give up your control. Control means that you keep some restrictions on how your code is used. If you free up the code completely, you gave up that control. I don't mind if you do it, it is your problem. M$ is surely happy with you. But then don't come back and whine about GPL.
Btw, it should have been spelled: WHAT THE FUCK YOU ARE ABOUT
BSD is a way of giving up control on your code. Why would anyone trust code on people who cannot even keep on to their own? It is like lending money to a man who then throws it all across the street. If i wanted to throw money all around, i would do it myself. Actually, i would support BSD in a world where there is only GPL and BSD licensed code. But until that world comes, BSD just hinders freedom.
The problem is movies about computers. These movies depict cracking as easy as hitting a few keys. Passwords could be found on an alien system in like 10 minutes by trying, Viruses contain more graphical elements than 'useful' payload, etc.
Even if the 6000 pages of the microsoft BS is free of patents, it contains references to old formats which are either patent covered, or not public or simply wrong.
I responded to this: >So if you make FreeSoftware to strict on its use people won't use it.
I said: who the f..k cares with people who steal like TiVo. This is the main difference between BSD and GPL. BSD people are happy if their code is raped, GPL people don't assist in it.
The problem is that Vista is a resource hog. It takes away lots of CPU/memory etc. from the normal processes, so they need to fight over the remaining scraps. So, in other words, Microsoft broke something, and tried to fix it.
It is hard to compromise Linux security, but only if the user knows what he does. You cannot deny the user to give away his own password in any system.
How long the system (subsystems) were down. How fast was the response time to eliminate a problem. How many problems were there. Which business unit was responsible for the problem. (for example, if a HD gets full it could be that a user stored his porn collection on it - user error, or simply someone bought a too small HD).
You cite about 5 cases, but there were a lot more findings. Apparently the 98% genetic similarity with chimpanzee doesn't convince you. Or you just patologically deny the facts, like your predecessors denied the round earth (aww, man, we would all fall down if earth isn't flat).

No, it was not overthrown. It was delayed for a few months so M$ could bribe the remaining countries.
Probably they didn't care about standards, they would go with ODF anyway. They cared about the fat envelope or the bunch of bananas.
I don't think they are the same.
The copyright monkeys are in the content creation business.
The bean counters of this article are in the IT business.

Right. It has the same issues as freedom of speech.
BSD is like letting people who hate freedom of speech to talk against it.

Yes, pirating software is not as honourable than writing one from scratch :)
No, i would say, it is too late.
They should have added SP1 to the initial release.

Yeah, there is money to be made. LITIGATE the BASTARDS out of their PANTS.
They joined for the voting. Isn't that obvious they were sent by M$?

If TiVo found the spirit of GPL so horrible, why did they 'steal' the code licensed under GPL?
They took it for free, giving nothing back.

Oh right, our great-great-great-great... grandma was a mammal whose great-great-great... son is a rat :)
I dunno, how this common ancestor looked like, but something tells me, it looked more like a rat, than a human.
I didn't say they are the same.
You just proven my point.
On atomic level (and even higher), we sure have common ancestors with ALL living beings.

If you type something too many times, why don't you make a shell command for it.
I see, i just recall that most of the war was on Iraq soil.
And that Saddam sucked greatly until he used chemical weapons.
