That's probably because anyone with a slight IT background could *mostly* set up a Windows server, while Unix is a bit harder. Let me rephrase that: A lot harder.
Be on the lookout for web services that are up for a few days, get/.'ed, and go poof. You can thank Gates for that.
how pissed most teens will be about this?! I know that almost anyone with a computer in my high school copies CDs (Not me, I got iTunes:P ). When this no longer works.. I mean.. jeeze! Especially since Dell has a huge marketshare and uses Intel chips!
I'm glad I like (and have) macs over PCs. DRM is just wrong.. Grr!
(Sidenote: Pleaase use a more generic font in the image confirmation!! That C looks like an E!!!)
I got an email from Apple about this because I recently got a 12" PB and had it registered (I love Apple!). Anyway, apparently the batteries are manufactured by LG Chem, Ltd. of South Korea.. Great.. Anyway, my battery is not affected (Not in the serial range, but pretty close.)
We won't have problems with people messing with the network, because it will be detatched from the school's network. This frees us from any rules regarding the use of 'network resources'.
Yeah, last plane I was on (United Airlines) had a 5" LCD on the back of each seat, with a bunch of music channels and several TV channels, however I do not think that the channels were being streamed from the actual stations -- A lot of them said "This special presentation during your ?United Airlines flight", so it could just be one recording that they play on every flight on that day.
Recently in the IRC room, this was said by sloncek, the person who ran suprnova.org.
[16:25] WhiteWo|F: Site was closed because i nor anyother admins dont have the time and will to fight the legal battles on BT.... We dont even want it to come to that and we dont have time to deal with the pressure anymore because we have other things to do
Trillian has been my favorite IM client for quite a while. It has great eye candy, runs stable, supports skins & plugins, along with being able to get on all of the clients. You can get it to connect to 10 different types of networks at once, with the help of some plugins. (AIM, ICQ, MSN, Y!, IRC, Jabber, Rendezvous [Which is actually designed for hardware such as printers, etc.], Sametime, Novell, Exchange)
It fits perfectly into the right hand side of my secondary monitor. All it needs now is Skype support.
We're now sending scents over the internet, eh? Well, I believe it is only time until that HP commercial comes true and we can download baseball gloves and cameras, and simply print them out right away!
AOL losing money is always a good thing. I know it may sound mean, but they are a big, greedy corporation with horrible internet service. The AOL process alone takes around 30 megs of memory, and that must be running to be connected. It's just not right.
Sure, this will likely help Microsoft to endorse their product, using a celebrity to make it seem better, when in reality it is worse or equal to others.
But seriously, encyclopedia software is becoming outdated by online encyclopedias. It is no longer necessary to spend 20 minutes installing GB's of data, as you can just bring up a website, type in your term, and have your information right there -- and at no cost to you.
I can agree with this, but if computers are their "thing", they should be allowed to tinker whenever their work is done, and all of the preceding priorities are met. If they get a learning experience from tinkering on the computer, then why not let them go at it?
I am in a similar situation (Currently in high school, however), but it tends to be that computer geeks take most things seriously, especially schoolwork.
If you can manage your time efficiently, you can get everything done. I agree that games will greatly decrease productivity. Other computer activities such as tinkering in Linux and such can prove to make you a better student, especially when programming and comparing that to algebra.
Computers don't keep students from learning. While students have the oppurtunity to do many things at once, they need to know that they need to get their work done, and then they can play around and do whatever they please.
I, for one, am a high school student who has straight A's in all of my classes. I'm an avid computer user, but I always put aside time to do my work. Along with that, I often use the computer to learn about things that are new to me. I browse howstuffworkd.com sometimes, as well as learn about programming languages and techniques that are new to me. I am currently "studying" XHTML, XML, and PHP as I please.
You must also realize that the same problem can happen with televisions, video games, magazines, anything that can distract a student from his/her's work. Managing time efficiently is a life skill that needs to be learned, and this is just another medium to test it on.
Microsoft Word has always had a whole help section dedicated to getting Wordperfect users to like Word better, and explains the differences between the two.
And, ironically, Microsoft's WordPerfect history fact sheet is in the Word.doc format.

Yes, I have seen that guide. We have tables, chairs, network equipment, etc. Most of the stuff we need we can provide ourselves for free!

Yes, we plan to offer bzflag servers and have it available for local download. It's an awesome game indeed.
Explain your yellow dart reasoning! Most of that is correct, though. o_O
We can easily borrow switches from the system admin, and possibly cat5, if there is any. We could likely get cable anyway.
>But if you are just looking for a reason to trow a Lan Party And it is a darn good reason, no?
Ah, yes. I do remember the static when they brought up the blue screen during announcements!

It's also time to internet pirate smells.
Red Hat is overpriced IMO, especially the enterprise edition. If they really want to compete, they should be less than Windows Server.
