Again, I agree, the System (pricing etc) as you mentioned, has to change, or things will remain as they are. Lawsuits, Hardware mods to play your own F-ing CD's...
Its a tough call,
Without the "BIG" Record labels, some musicians would have a harder time... Without the $20 CD's the "BIG" Record labels would have no reason for existance. SOMEONE has to pay for advertising, promotions, production etc etc.. I'M NOT defeding the record labels... But there is NOTHING that is FREE.
Musicans love music, but bills must be paid. Just throwing it in the wild out there... iTUNES spins off to become a RECORD company with its own artists, selling CDS/SONGS what eva' on Itunes... (iTunes gets their cut and the artirts gets a BIGGER cut from SALES) we can all DO without the record companies, but in its current status, they are needed (to some degree). We love our music, we hate paying high prices for cds/media, we hate DRM because it limits OUR USE. Not trolling, but share a seat with an artist who JUST (30 min ago) released his proud new cd, only to find it on piratebay with 3000 seeders and 23423423 peers. YES his/her music is heard, and 1 in 10 MIGHT go out and buy that cd (as most of us claim that we do). But in real life... It doesnt happen.
Again its nothing personal against anyone, but this whole "FREE" thing has to go away.
I have "Previewed" games... only to realize that this crap is never worth the $50 they are asking, i simply deleate the game. Was it Illegal? Sure.. Did i save $50 by NOT buying the crap they are pushing in the media? Sure... I can sit here and sping out numerous examples, only to come back to one conclusion - DRM Sucks... Piracy is rampant.... the entire Music Industry needs to wake up and change the way it works. Thanks for listening to my rant.
Theres just isnt enought incentive.... And "Incentive" not meaning prizes are ipods or cash... Most of my day revolves around Search Engines... With google - I get what i want within the first 5 links. I DONT want to SCROLL all over the damn screen jumping through hoops/mail links/ads and what ever crap they throw at me just to get to a link im looking for. The ol' saying Keep It Simple Stupid (KISS) applies here.
Thats just criminal. AOL is no longer the premiere Content Provider. They will Join Qlink in the near future. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/QLink
Time Warner is now bundling AOL service with its High Speed service (to raise subscription rate for stock holders?) Everyone knows that you can get dial up as low as $9/month. Not to sound like a broken record, but BroadBand users tend to stear away from AOL - Cutting their own throat.
Not sure if "OffTopic" but ill comment,
I live in a Time Warner Service Area. Time Warner was getting to roll out its "WiFi" program to the nearby towns...
The city already had plans to put in their own little wifi spots around the downtown area. It Turns out, timewarner issued a statement saying if the city would proceed with its plans, TWC would consider the city a competetitor and Cut back on "Community Based Funding" As it turned out, "Free" isnt always the best way to go. TWC put in their wifi, the city backed off, funding still in place, everyone, but the consumer wins? (since theres no free beer involved)
How does this relate to Microsoft? - Theres no such thing as FREE -
A definition of free by MS standards is = We have to wipe out the competition, then we will revisit "Free"
Last time i checked, VOIP over WIFI is not very pretty.
Just my 2 cents
Started with a C= Vic20 then jumped to a C=64... Ran a bbs and ended up shelling out $1200 for a LT. KERNAL (for those who still live with their parents heres the writeup) http://www.floodgap.com/retrobits/ckb/ltk/ I actually chucked reading the article.
Consumers think "HD" automatically = higher prices... with the current trends of HD products falling.. shouldnt really be a case...
Take for example ignorance of consumers who bought into the whole "Makes your windows/glass look like HD"
With all the "Media" spelling out the "Impending Doom" of RIM, I would assume every large client has already or is making plans to jump ship to another carrier/solution?
If someone told me that My car "MIGHT" stop working sometime in the future, BUT just in case heres CAB fare... I wouldnt wait that long.

ALready There... I have VOIP service through Time Warner.... (switched from Vone-ige) They (time warner) seem to address the power issue very well, by issuing a modem with BUILT IN battery.. They claim 90 min backup. For commerical power to stay out for more than 90 min some serious natural disaster would have to take place, thus bringing the "Phone Lines" down with it anyway.
As For Vonage, everyone here is right... it used to be cool to have somethig different, now with hundreds of these carriers, people want a bargain. Reason for my switch? TWC is a local company, I can ALWAYS call them and bitch if something went wrong. Since they provide the pipes to both, they cant blame it "on the other guy". Von-ige throws everyone of these "*##" feature at you, but its a pain to actually locate your options. Maybe stop with the commericals and start concentrating on customer service. Back to this TWC VOIP thing,
Phone no longer breaks up while transfering files... and cant beat the caller ID on TV thing... People want local Service, they dont care if its "CHEAPER" at times... I pay $10 more for TWC service, but it works, And I cant stress enough that i can pick up the phone and "Get my $ worth" with a truck roll if required.
It still has a LONG way to go.. One annoying aspect is you cant relocate your "URL" bar.. its always stuck on top..you can move around every aspect of the tool bar... excet the url...
I dont know about everyone else.. but that whole ActiveX thing scares me. That "Allow" directx yellow bar thingie, could be the last button you ever pressed.
I had the chance to preview... PNG support is there... Still lots of page rendering errors, (slashdot) is one example... page scrolls for ever... tabbed browsing is sweet... some security tweaks.. Once completed...
Did I miss something about the Digital Cable issue?
In My area, TWC mirrors 95% of the analog channels on the digital tier.
So in order to get my Dig channels i would have have 11 Dig boxes?
Sure everytime you split the cable you lose 3.5 to 7db depending on which leg of the splitter you branch off, nothing a Cable Amplifier cant fix, digital channels are fine to about -15db to -20db, what im wondering is where the Cable Card support?
Another great tool... is it "new"?, not really, its a "statistics" generator + adwords...
step 1... Google search (draws millions of hits)
step 2... Gmail (nother million hits here and there) (plus your email/data)
step 3... Throw in google earth, picasa (more hits)
step 4... Track users for you.
Google may not be "Evil", but it sure in control of ALOT of information (and statistics). Keep in mind EVERYTHING hits of their servers.
Google will be (you can quote this) the largest information holder on the net (if not the planet) once everything comes out of beta and a NEW application is released based upon all the freebies they have provided its users.
Am I the only one that is just a little bit worried?
Maybe slightly off topic, but I'll speak my mind anyways. Systemworks is Very dangerous, for those that have observed how it actually installs onto a system its a scary sight, A VERY tight intergration with the
OS. If a "User" rm's one of these "files" without a doubt the computer will suffer. Their intentions were good to "protect" the files, since meny users who install "Systemworks" have no clue anyways. A patch was issued (not ignored), Sony should learn from its mistakes.
I must second that motion.. whats stopping the nsa from "uploading" some "national security" documents then arresting you as an "Enemy Of the US" and hold you with out a trial for 30 years.
Flash Drives... The most common use? Backups(temp), Sharing Information, Files etc etc (yes theres more but thats not the point here).. So the scenerio is, I backup my Tax forms, couple pictures, maybe scanned copies of some important documents, and im going to leave it on my wrist? Or even better, Strap it to a backpack? I was unable to RTFA but just the thought of it makes me wonder the purpose of this device. And why do these so called "Cool Kids" need flash drives? (Skip the bringing homework from school part)
