...if anyone ever does discover how to travel back in time, they will be able to rest assure that no one from the future can travel back and kill them to keep time travel from being possible. a few years ago i actually discovered how to do it, so i immediately hypnotized myself to suppress the discovery until i was sure no one could abuse my discovery and travel back to kill me. i guess the trigger worked!
This is related to maintaining the nation's nuclear stockpile and studying the processes that go on inside giant planets in our solar system like Jupiter and Saturn. Rail guns have already been created by programs sponsored by the U.S. Navy and Army, but need further development to reach full operation. One of the major challenges is heat. The fact that the "rails" are not superconductors means that heat builds up over time, presenting an inherent problem in the whole idea. The challenge is to find a material that will either conduct better, or dissipate heat quicker. After the propulsion challenges are overcome, there will be the challenge of developing a projectile that is accurate over large distances. The dynamics of accuracy using an explosive start and an electromagnetic start are quite different. Once these challenges are overcome and testing is completed, the targeted applications will be for use in the Navy "Electric Ship", and an Army tank-style weapon system. Even though there has been work done on miniaturizing the power supply, there are no programs to turn this technology into a rifle-style personel weapon.
i love the varied spring pressure under the key groups...very cool. it's also quite amusing to see the blank look on people's faces when they sit down at my cube and see the keyboard. even though they probably know instinctively what the keys are, they still feel intimidated because they cant see the letters. too funny. now if only i could get a backlit version...a nice healthy blue glow coming from under each key would be awesome.:)
Think about it. Paper cannot be "hacked" like wireless devices. It can easily be hidden, and if necessary, the data can be encrypted. It can easily be destroyed beyond recovery. It can be cleared and written over many times, is easily indexed, can be read without the help of any device, and is allowed on airplanes. Name another medium that provides all that.
Leave it to scientists to assume that you are the sum of your parts. Who can say for sure if consciousness will be translated over and intact along with the data? What if the human brain relies on it's active structure to make us aware that we are who we are? If there is no consciousness stored, what good are the memories? We will never be able to reconstruct a brain that matches the data stored. This would be a wasteful and futile effort if undertaken.
...of why you should take everything you read/see/hear from journalists with a grain of salt. Nine times out of ten, they will either be overdramatizing, underestimating, or inaccurately representing key facts.
i'm goin back to a notepad and a playstation...all i need is the original Descent, Gran Turismo 2, and Metal Gear Solid and I'll be happy for the rest of my existence.
I figure I'll walk in to work that day, sit down at my desk, and start cursing wildly and spazzing out. After about 15 minutes of that, I think my employer will probably ask me what's up. I'll explain to him that I'm already stressed out beyond comprehension because the IT department refuses to give me another harddrive, and that I am experiencing a Tourrette's Syndrome attack and need to go home.
Can you imagine what the view would look like from one of these tiny moons? This newly discovered one, along with several others, are tucked in between gaps in Saturn's rings. Imagine sitting on one of these moons, looking up toward this massive planet that fills the sky and a field of debris rings spreading out in both directions. Blows the mind!
" It's here, it's (basically) free. Why not use it?"...because it sucks. Period. I was sucked into the hype hoping for a nice open source alternative to the MS Office Suite, and found OO.o to be cumbersome, inefficient, incompatible with many formats that were claimed to be compatible, and a processor hog. Here's a clue: a document editing program should not need a program running constantly in the background so that it starts quicker. My opinion: Yuck.
as long as i can take out my roadrage on NFSU2 when i get to work, and take out my workrage on counterstrike source at home (with an occasional smathering of super metroid on my snes emulator), i'm kewl.:)
...if you're going to think that way, then the military needs to immediately stop all work on UCAV's, since I would expect humans to hold a bit more worth than animals (even though I wonder sometimes).
Regardless of what software/hardware manufacturer actually comes through with this system, I think it would be beneficial to the driving community across the board. It will be very easy to market the convenience of preplanning a trip to the grocery market, getting in your car, and letting a digital chauffeur take you to your destination while you surf the internet from your wireless laptop for coupons on bacon strips. As an ex-"streetracer", I can tell you that there will be lots of people that will not want to relinquish control of their driving experience. If such a system were to be successfully deployed, a mixture of virtual and human drivers would not be safe. There are too many variables to make such a system work safely. As a result, I think amateur racers would quicly start building small tracks and locations for pure racing without the constraints or expense of professional racing associations. I think this would be widely popular, and it would bring the racing community closer together. I'm all for it. I gave up streetracing a long time ago because no matter how skilled you are with your own vehicle, there's always some mental slug out there who will pull right out in front of you without looking first...
The FAS mission is to provide oversight on unnecessary government secrecy. The only part of this report that should have been classified is the names of the military personnel. The rest is ridiculous to consider as being secret information.
The next Rover should have wheels made of an alloy that can heat up enough to melt the soil and retain it's shape, or maybe a high power laser to heat up the soil, or something like that. Just like lightning can turn soil into glass, it may be possible to use this somehow to get the Rover out of jams like this.:)
it's GLASS IN SPACE-SPACE-space-space-........this was first introduced on The Muppet Show as PIGS IN SPACE-SPAC....you get the idea.

yeah but before you know it the enemy will get wise and start camping the spawn points...

and the guy next to me stops working on his laptop and starts looking at me weird, I'm gonna freak.

Tools/Options/Web Features/"Allow web sites to install software" - uncheck it. I don't know why this isn't unchecked by default.
