$150 is fair because I AM a student. And is my sibling, who's attending college as well. I'm NOT saying that the Pro version of Office is fairly priced. $400 is too expensive. If M$ would lower their prices from the clouds, down to $50 for the suite, THAT would be fair.
Office is a standard document platform. That said, if I want to insure that other people can READ my documents (i.e. NON-geeks) chances are, they'll have Office on their machines too.
What's NOT fair is what companies like Alias are doing. Charging each time $500 - $600 each time the new student versions of Maya are released. I purchased 5.0 via my student discount for $589 , and now they want $600 for Maya 6.0. As a student, I can't afford to shell out for the new version each time it is released. To make matters worse, the university has 6.0 installed, but 5.0 cannot read 6.0 files.
Now, which program do you think is more likely to be pirated?

The Student/Teacher Office suite ($150) is a great deal - it includes 3 licenses. $50 per license is more than fair.
Actually, it talks about Star Wars. I didn't see any mention of Indiana Jones. But nonetheless, the computing horsepower used to clean the film is impressive.
Chalk me up as another very satisfied customer. I've used my Spire backpack to shuttle my PowerBook and various other gadgets on various travels (Germany, India, Australia).
I purchased mine in 1997 and it's still going strong. It's also very comfortable on my shoulders, especially during hikes and other long distance walks (unlike most backpacks, it's shape is specially contoured to one's back).
Due to its outstanding quality, I purchased another one for my sister for her laptop. Here's the link in case you want to learn more about their products.
I applaud Anand for taking the time to thoroughly put the G5 through its paces. If Apple were still running the 'classic' OS, I seriously doubt Anand would have even bothered to look at the platform, let alone review it. OS X is the main reason why I prefer Macs. It doesn't get in the way of what I want to do. At work, I have a G5 on one side, and a HP XW8000 on the other. Both have their advantage, but as far as OS intuitiveness goes -- the Mac wins hands down. The PC Weenies:Tech toons with a byte!
The Fist died, but Byrne retconned him back in the pages of Namor a number of years ago. The Iron Fist resurrection subplot ran for 22 issues beginning with Namor #8.
A Fantastic Four animated cartoon would be great -- tho no doubt the powers at be at Marvel will some how bastardize the TV version. Still, it's better to see the focus on characters other than the X-Men and Spiderman.
Forget the whales, and bring back Power Man and Iron Fist!
And let's add the Colecovision controllers to that list. Anyone who owns own knows what I'm talking about. Positively the worst controllers out there, despite the fact that the system had some of the best games out for it. For what its worth, I still have my Coleco, and it still works!
...in India where there's a 70 / 30 ratio of men / women in Computer Science. Given the cultural push towards education over there, computer science isn't stereotyped as a male oriented field as it seems to be here in the US. This is also true in fields such as engineering.
Installed 10.3.5 on both a PowerBook G4 and 1.8GHz G5 at work. No problems with the install at all -- everything went smoothly. There is a slightly better video response from both machines with the update. On the single G5 processor, Genie effects appear to be incredibly smooth, whereas before they were somewhat choppy. Using Desktop Manager, transitions between virtual desktops was also incredibly smooth. In short, during my brief use, no problems were encountered.
Okay, so everyone's got great battery life with their laptop has posted in. What I'd like to know is: which laptop's have the shortest battery life? Was battery life a major factor in your laptop purchase? How many people here use their laptop as their desktop (i.e. plugged into the wall socket regularly)?
Same thing happened to me. The solution, while an easy fix, should have been elegantly handled by Thunderbird instead. Hopefully we can see this in place before v.0.8 is released.
...installed without any issue on both Dual G5 and single processor G5 systems. Initial impressions -- my Dual G5 system does appear to run snappier -- GUI response even better than it was in 10.3.3 -- no doubt the result of the improved video drivers in the update. No problems with the update whatsoever -- the update downloaded in a few minutes with a broadband condition.
....compared to the James Bond franchise. The Spy Hunter game itself was influenced by Bond's gadget filled cars, so wouldn't this movie, in effect, be redundant?
Don't jump to conclusions, bub.

Obligatory PC Weenies link that fits the topic at hand.

The only signifcant drawback to the current material used in the regular iPod is its tendency to pick up scratches/fingerprints on its back.
I was also hoping that the new iPod would have an easy-access compartment for replacing batteries.
Still, looks interesting. May have to break down and get the 20GB model...
How about loading Tetris? It's somewhat educational (in an abstract mathematical sense), and easy to grasp.
Does that mean we'll get iTunes for C64s now?
It's good to know that users still do have a choice.
