Now THAT was a fun game -- I remember playing it on my Apple IIGS many years ago. It was simple in concept, fun to play, and absolutely frustrating at the higher levels. Whatever happened to these type of games on today's machines? Despite the brilliant graphics and sound on the new first person shooters and RPGs out there, I prefer games of yore that were simple, yet challenging.

Bring back Zany Golf, Bubble Ghost, and Droll!

I have DP's Missing Manual:Panther Edition and I do agree with the author's review. It's very informative -- not just for rank beginners to OSX, but to intermediates (and dare I say) pros. I've gleaned numerous bits of info (no pun intended) from going through the book thus far. I highly recommend it - especially if you're making the switch from another platform.

  11. Re:try Spire on Recommendations For A Good Laptop Bag? · · Score: 1

I highly recommend the Spire as well -- I use the Spire Zoom -- it's extremely durable and well built. Sure, it's a bit more pricey than your typical 'backpack' -- but it's worth it if protecting your $1000+ laptop is a priority. It's also inconspicous -- it doesn't LOOK like a laptop carrying case, making it a less likely target for thieves. Something to consider, especially when you're in crowded cities or airports.

I've owned mine since 1998 and it has survived unscathed on trips to India, Germany, and Australia. Highly recommended!

  12. 2D vs. 3D? Use both! on Disney Does Digital, Ditches Drawings · · Score: 1
Personally, while I highly regard 2D animation as an art form, I personally enjoy the cel-shaded works of late. A great example of a feature length cartoon that uses both cel-shading and traditional 2D animation is "Le Tripplets de Belleville".

The story was brilliant, and even more so, there was NO dialogue throughout the movie. I believe 2D animation continues to be quite viable -- and as many have already mentioned here, that it's the STORY that makes a picture a success (or failure).

Disney cartoons have always been too formulaic -- perhaps they are afraid to go against the grain of their past successes?

An interesting topic -- actually brought a smile to my eye -- recalling all the computer mice I've used over the years.

The first mouse I purchased was with my Wozniak signature edition Apple IIGS. It was the standard Apple ADB mouse. Worked well, had a solid feel to it, but the rollers would crud up over time.

The second was a generic PC 3 button mouse from a homebrew computer system I purchased. It was a total piece of garbage.

In college, we had those wonderful (not!) Sun mice, with the friggin annoying (TM) metal track pad. While useless for the most part, it was particularly amusing to turn the pad on its edge and watch newbies complain about their mouse not working.

Flash-forward a few years... I've been very happy with my current Kensington Optical Elite, used with my G4/Dual 450. It has a solid feel to it, 5 customizable buttons (I use only 2 of those under heavy use), and a solid 5 year warranty. Kensington has been great about fixing problems, and actually gave me a new mouse when the previous one developed some unusual problems.

For digital drawing, I've simply GOT to use the Wacom 6 x 8 Intuous. Nothing else compares.
