  1. Universal defense?? on Case Against Video-Sharing Site Dismissed · · Score: 0

Seems to me torrent and song downloaders could use this DMCA provision to beat the RIAA in every case. For example, "I never received a take down notice, the files I so called 'provided' had no such notice on or in them".

Here is how I would fix it. Copyright 7-10 years, after that you pay a tax on your IP every year, for another 7-10 years to keep it your IP, just like property taxes. This tax is based on your first 5-7 year revenues. If no revenue during first period, then a minimum tax per year adjustable by 2nd 5-7 year period revenue. No revenue, or not paying taxes on your IP then you lose your IP/copyright, becomes public domain. Regardless, after 14-20 years, public domain. .... Patents, 20 years. No product after 2 years, patent becomes public domain.

I have to ask why someone at EA thought this would be a good idea. Did they think someone would buy the game, install then validate, and THEN install a pirated version? One day your active-x install will become corrupted, you will then be called a thief by the WGA software, you will have 100% grief. Welcome to the 'Line', it begins way back there ---> Happened to a client of mine, he wasnt to pleased. Couldnt update/fix the active-x controls because the WGA locked his system out of the update process. Couldnt validate the system because the validation process requires the corrupted active-x controls. Calls to microsoft were transfered to the lovely do-nothing email customer support system. ALL MS RECOMENDED SOLUTIONS FAILED. They said a format was in order but since it was invalid software they would have to recommend against activation. Enter me, I de-activated the WGA software, acquired the needed upgrades in order to fix his active-x problem, deleted the Microsoft Network (MSN) soft(mal)ware that caused the problem to begin with and re-activated the WGA software and got everything 'Approved' again. The WGA software served no purpose what so ever except to prevent a paying customer from using and fixing what he payed for. Then he had to pay me to fix it.

No Drama for me. IE7 works fine on all my systems. Didnt even set itself as default browser, still left trusty Firefox (v2.0) in that position. I even acquired the download with Firefox on a linux system. Im impressed by that alone. All the websites I have developed render and work fine with it also, even those I built 5+ years ago. Im stunned actually. Not to worried about security as yet because I will just use it to test sites I build and not for browsing. Oh well. Could this be a new Microsoft attitude? Na they still suck, just in this case they didnt.
