This comment intrigues me. On one hand it (sort of) brings up the point about how annoying it is that each distribution seems to want to throw random files in seemingly random locations, instead of their being a standard spot for them.

On the other hand... the rest of it seems to be just random garbage, but it's gotten +3 Interesting mod.

I agree. $1.99 for a horrible quality video file? No thanks. I stick with downloading non-DRM HD quality TV shows.

Now, $1.99 for a nice non-DRM HD quality TV show... that I may actually do.

I think FOX/Newscorp (with their recent aquisitions) will be the first to offer something like that, or at least something close to that.

I know a lot of the leftist Euro slashdot readers currently have a great disdain for America, but most of the countries who want the US to give up some of its control over the internet aren't doing so because they're OSS fans or just want information to be free. Most, if not all, of them want to be able to excercise an even greater amount of control over what is available, not only to their own citizens, but to the rest of the planet. What do you think China, North Korea, Iran, etc will be pushing for once they have a little bit more say?

Easy fix for most software like that is to make the user an admin, log in with their account, install the software, make the user a normal user again, and log out. If that doesn't do it, giving the user full rights to the registry settings for the program usually fixes it.

Not a perfect system, but it works fairly well.
