How can this even be modded as insightful? This poster apparently knows NOTHING about overclocking. Apparently he has had 0 success ever doing it so he just flames everyone who enjoys pushing hardware to its limits.
Yeah, i have an opteron 170@2.5ghz. You know how much time i spent getting it there? 10 minutes. Sure now you will rant about how its gonna fry etc etc and its probably not stable, but what would you know?
CPU has passed all burn in periods and has been in a running state for almost a month now. I never shut my computer down, temps are well well within tolerable limits. I could probably push it more, but I am not going to.
Yes. And if you actually had done some reading, you would have found that Gamefly was quoted as saying, they have hardly received any discs with scratches. They were just issuing a warning that if you scratch a disc you are responsible. BTW, your power brick only overheats if you sit it on a rug etc.
Also to counter your no games included point. They include demos of 4 360 games, and about 25 xbox live arcade games, including one full version. Show me another console that comes close to that. Take your hatred(or envy) of 360 owners elsewhere.
I agree it suggests. But look at portable cd players and how the cd is mounted intot he drive. They are mounted on there really good. Unlike the ps2/xbox360 systems. The gamecube on the other hand has the same type of mounting that a portable cd does, which is why they shouldnt ever have that problem. All im saying this problem requires a little common sense. But i also realize that the majority of people are lacking in that department.
Not necessarily. The ps2 was advertised Vertically as well for all of you who will remember. Everyone thought it was cool to do it until you find out your discs get scratched. Same thing here. The discs just dont balance the same vertically as they do horizontally. Maybe my idiots comment was harsh, but I remembered from the ps2 experience, so i didnt chance it.
My guess this is happening to people who (like idiots) stand their unit vertically. PS2 had this as a "feature" to, but all it did was lead to scratched discs. I have had my horizontal from the beginning and i have no scratches on my dvds with heavy play. Just a thought.
What made WoW so successfuly is that its a dumbed down MMORPG. Any joe can pick it up and get into it. Im not syaing thats bad, thats exactly why its so insanely huge now. But it also (unfortunately) leaves leaves out a lot of us older MMORPG ppl who wanted a "NEXT GEN" mmorpg. I enjoyed wow till i took a character up to level 60, twice in two months. Then even pvp and end game stuff just got old and boring. Im just afraid that other companies arent going to takethe time to make a next gen mmorpg anytime soon due to the success of WoW.
My wife just spent 3.5 hours last night playing Zuma on my xbox360. And i will agree that the arcade games are quite addicting, but at least they are in HD, and they pass the time between lulls in good game releases. Not saying that they are more fun than my copy of NFS:MW or PGR3, but they are some great time killers the whole family is enjoying.
MS is doing a good job of keeping us glued to the couch.
Possibly. I will own a PS3, and I already own an Xbox 360. I am definitely a Sony fanboy tho if you want to go there(not that i should since slashdot hates sony). But that aside, I agree with all of your points on the PS3 and exactly why it will dominate again. But, the one thing Microsoft has over PS3 is the online infrastructure. Sony has already stated there wont be an "Xbox Live"(ish) version of their ps3 online. It will be the game developers responsibility. Maybe this will change (i hope so). I could care less about backwards compatibility, i have a hard time playing an old generation game, thats just me though, i know the masses are different and that im in the minority. But the 360s online infrastructure is just amazing. I can download movie trailers in 720p, download tons of xbox live arcade games that truly are addicting(many are talking about these now) and cheaper than the retail games. And i find myself in awe of the complete online/media infrastructure Microsoft put together. My wife and sister in law and mother in law have all stopped to comment on how that would be fun to have for themselves. Im pretty sure MS will do much better this time around than last time.
But for real gamers and true HD experience the PS3 will be the way to go in the end.
Valid Point. I am a huge D&D person. But the fact that it is basically the same concept as Guild Wars, only you have to pay is the main turnoff for me. Sure its not "linear" as GW is, and there will probably be more content added faster. I just dont like the idea of a MMO game that is completely instanced...kinda keeps the MMO feeling out of it.
Its great and all that ATI supports this under Linux. But have many of you really tried using ATI cards + 3d Acceleration? First its horrible to setup depending on your kernel version. Secondly the performance in OpenGL games under linux is absolutely Horrid. Im talking 30fps in UT2k4 with a 9800pro with EVERYTHING down. This is common too, not just a case by case situation. Also, Cedega run games have major troubles and compatibility issues. ATI just isnt a very good option for the linux users ATM. For windows its great for the price.
I dont necessarily disagree completely with your statements. But yahoo is my default home page and then i have 4-5 tabs open up with google for my searching. But for the current weather/news/sports/etc other stuff i care about its pretty convenient. It may also be that im juts comfortable with their format after using it for years and years. Searching on yahoo pisses me off tho.
You have a keen sense of sarcasm
I'm removing my last catalytic converter as we speak. I love nature.
Sure many of us here do. But after the "Abysmal", and thats being polite, showing of the Firefly Serenity movie, Where would the motivation even be?

As opposed to wasting taxpayers dollars on revamping the whole system/hardware/code/personnel? Ill take paying for what they use now thanks.
whoah your a big joker, im in tears here im laughing so hard..... btw, keep your day job.

At least hes not hiding behind the cowardice of the Anonymous Poster

Good job reading the summary and not the whole article. Or you would have realized this whole story is out of context.
So do the 1000 other people who submitted the same story before you and got rejected.
Mod this guy up for originality! Nice one Mr. Anonymous.
Yeah, their new system which has said to be as powerful as the last gen xbox REALLY has me excited

Yeah. Does anyone actually even care?

Yeah this french programmer here likes to always play as a female in MMORPGS...kinda freaks me out.
You got me there =(
