    The fine is already $16,000. From the link:

    Each separate email in violation of the CAN-SPAM Act is subject to penalties of up to $16,000, so non-compliance can be costly.

    It's just a matter of actually finding them, dragging them to your jurisdiction and squeezing blood from a stone.

    If it weren't for the Apple I and II and classic Macs, there would be no Apple today. It was the classic era where nerds gave Apple enough success to get to where they are today.

    It's a 10-year old operating system. It was all Windows users had for a long time, and Vista was a flop, but Windows 7 is really good and has a strong adoption rate.

    Agreed, but will these small nudges to get users away from XP be enough to get them to change their OS? There are other options available to XP users that provide similar functionality to the applications and/or services that are starting to exclude XP.

    I don't see mobile GUI's in there. Surely Palm's early offerings qualify as a "before" and iOS & Android as an "after" ... and Magic Cap as in "in between". Desktops aren't the only place we use GUI's.

    Are you sure you remembered to upgrade?

    In Googleverse, Chrome updates you! It really does - it automatically updates the browser to the latest version. I just make copies of each major version for testing (much easier on the Mac than Win; not sure how Chrome updates Linux installs).

    I have Chromium 12.0.742.91 on my computer. Have they really made hundreds of beta releases?

    Not betas, but builds.

    I wonder how many versions of Chrome will ever have a minor version number greater than '0'? I don't recall seeing one recently (at least since Chrome 4).

    It is conspiratorial. It projects a similar fate as Jullian Assange or Dominique Strauss-Kahn encountered, which some believe to be lies perpetrated by those in the government. This story doesn't make the government sound like they're above such things.

    NATO != U.N.

    * NATO has guns and bombs, "Oops, we're sorry" immunity and sometimes enforces decisions the U.N. finally gets around to.
    * U.N. has no guns or bombs, and usually no spine or balls either.

    Bill Gates is not the answer for Microsoft, but changing leadership is. They have become sloth-like in their old age and have become a market follower rather than a market leader.

    MS probably needs to remove one or two levels of management to allow things to speed up again. Ideas and progress are slowed by too many filters.

    All these security breaches reminds me of the game Uplink.

    All these security breaches remind me that the world has changed in an irrevocable manner and that it's only a matter of time before anything and everything falls victim to these types of attacks. Nothing is really safe anymore.
